What are you doing today, II

I filed my taxes through TurboTax today.
That's about all I've accomplished other than sitting around, sneezing and watching movies.
I had Mrs. Grass soup for food today, I drank it out of the bowl for both lunch and dinner.
Can't be bothered with much while feeling like crap.

We're still waiting for a few slips to come in before filing. My wife takes care of that as she works for the CRA which is the same as the IRS in the states. She is one of the ones who comes after you when you haven't filed yet. Generally though she deals with businesses and corporations who haven't filed multiple years.

My back is still flared up so other than my daily taxis duties, I won't be doing much of anything. My daughter has an appointment at 9am in the city for an hour. It's a 25 minute drive east. Then I have to pick her up and bring her to her school program which is normally only a few blocks from her appointment but today, they are doing a land based activity out 25 minutes drive west of here. So I have to drive to the city for her appointment then pick her up and drive 50 minutes west to her school program then go back and pick her up a couple hours later. Thank God for creating heated seats for my back.

Yesterday the doctor took x-rays and gave me an exam for my pre-Christmas foot surgery.

Squeezed my foot (checking for pain) at a couple key points.

Proclaimed me "free" from my boot. Said I should transition out of it. So around the house I was wearing my slippers, went out last night with the boot. Today I'll be alternating between the boot and the slipper or a shoe. Honestly don't think I can get my foot in my fencing shoe, those are very tight fitting and I don't think I have the flexibility back in my foot yet to stuff it into any tight shoe. But I'll try a couple different shoes, possibly a hiking boot.

Today I get the pleasure of spending the day with the dogs. Extended family is staying with us, everyone is going up to Chicago to be with Melen, I was elected to stay home to care for the dogs. They will all return tomorrow afternoon. So I get to do what I want to do.

I will be off to the fencing club tonight for a special high school practice because their championship event is this weekend.

Nice. A night without the supervision of a responsible adult. 🤣

Since the boot is off, this is the perfect time for you to get the bathroom reno started. 😉

Yesterday was the lovely Mrs_Bob's birthday. She received 2 faucets for that new bathroom. Still have not picked out the tile. And we have a tear-out and rebuild project up at Melen's condo in February that will take priority over our bathroom. So maybe March/April for the bathroom? It is not a high priority at this point.

I am loafing today. No projects need to be done.

Some packaging contracts are pending but not yet active.

There is a stack of Christmas stuff in containers on the living room floor. They need to go in the attic but, it's still cold up there today.

I'll feed the birds, pick up the granddaughter from school and cook dinner.

This is what non-working housewives do. Boring.

No wonder they get frustrated.

Francis, when I was a full time housewife for a few years (not working ) while the boys were small and needed me at home, I was never bored.
Scouting events, sports, practices, school events, cleaning a 3 story home, breeding Dachshunds...etc, etc, etc...lol
I don't mind doing any of those things. However, today none are needed.
I am used to building things, managing people and multiple projects simultaneously, all at a rapid pace and under pressure.

No offense to Housekeeping, but it routine and just doesn't compare.

…working on honey-do list.

No school runs today thankfully but I did drive in to the city this morning for physio then straight home to do some cleaning up in the garage putting tools away from my last 2 projects. Then my son informed me that the blinker light on the vehicle I just finished reassembling wasn't working. That had me removing half the bumper and some trim to get the headlight out in order to remove the bulb. Got that back together then put him to work moving stacks of summer tires down by the garage. That's a project for next summer. Install some tire racks under the carport off the shop. That's enough for today. It's 5 o'clock somewhere. 🍻

Blood tests today. 7 vials taken :4_11_9:

Then I stopped off for coffee and a pastry at a new coffee shop opened by one of my former fencing students. He previously roasted coffee and sold on the internet, at local farmers markets, festivals, fairs, etc. His roasting operation was in my town.

He moved the whole operation a few towns north and that gave him the space to open a small retail cafe too.

Very cool, but very tiny shop. Great coffee.

Love to support locally owned businesses

Felt well enough to venture out for a walk on 424, Riverview Avenue, there is a spot there along the river.
The Maumee is still covered with ice.
Also went down the Tow Path for almost two miles 😊
Came back home, picked up some Chinese from Hong Kong buffet, then shortly thereafter went out to the street to check my mailbox.

Some guy was passing in a delivery van on the street and said, there is smoke coming out of those apartments.
Turns out this young woman who lives two down from me burnt the shit out of a tortilla, never bothered to open a window or a door so there was smoke coming out of the shingles on the roof above her apartment.
I called the landlord, she called Napoleon fire department.
That girl left for work at a nearby factory and will soon find out that there was forced entry into her apartment.

Shopping at the local grocer, I saw they had pork A whole pigs side of ribs and chops over 25lbs allinonepeicefor$100 albs. Worse thay had spiral sliced bone in ,fully cooked hams for $1.40 per lbs. I usually buy a 1 1 /4lbpackage of Frick's sliced ham for myself as no one in the house but me can eat pork.

Cathy can have some pork. Small amounts. She sometimes likes ham and eggs for breakfast.

The Fricks was $10.00. So, I put it back and took home the spiral ham at $15.80. I literally got 6 1 1/2lb packages of sliced ham plus two smaller bags of (pieces) along with a large ham covered bone. All of this went to the chest freezer in the garage. I'll be making ham sandwiches for some time.

Plus, I will make a big pot of ham and bean soup. Just for me!
I haven't done one in decades, Looking for a recipe.

Early to bed tonight. Early to rise on Sunday.

I'm coaching a combined NCAA - USACFC fencing meet tomorrow at Notre Dame.

Should be a fun and long day.

I've got a couple Olympians lined up and will be talking to my kids, I've got a couple World Cup, World Team and National Cup fencers who will be talking to my kids. A 2x NCAA and ACC Champion will be helping me coach. Hopefully they will get some good advice.

We have had a Lazy Susan corner cabinet in the kitchen since we built the house back in 1978. I took the rotary shelving out years ago and it became a big catch-all for Tupperware, strainers, odds and ends. Total mess.

I had two pieces of finished shelving "somewhere" in the garage which I was always going to cut and install. Went on a search today and found them.

Perfect fit.

My body objected to the contortive positions required to get them installed but I got 'er done. Now for a whirlpool bath.

So, your lazy susan is no longer lazy? How about a pic?

Purdue vs Notre Dame
Purdue vs Michigan
Purdue vs Michigan State
Purdue vs Florida
Purdue vs Case Western Reserve
Purdue vs Northwestern (mens only)
Purdue vs Wisconsin
Purdue vs Indiana

That is today's agenda, not in that sequence, but those schools. Purdue kids look forward to this event all year. They know they will get their butts kicked by 13 time NCAA winner N.D.'s "B" team. But the Purdue team, against the other schools has a chance of coming in #2 behind ND if the kids fence well. They just as easily could come in 4th or 5th. We have 2 of our best Epee fencers out of the competition. We have a very weak Women's Foil team. Saber, the weapon I coach is pretty solid.

I'd ask for hope and prayers, but really we just need to do our jobs and get a few lucky touches to win the right bouts. I'd love to see us end up #2 overall for the day. But I'm not sure we can pull that off. The standings can end up differing by just a matter of a few touches in a couple of bouts. So I'd be happy ending up in the top 50% today. Anything below that would be disappointing, but still possible, especially considering our W-Foil team and our injuries.

I am not good with pictures.
My Captain Kirk flip phone is difficult to get images off.

If I post a picture, you can bet Crumpy took it and then made it possible for me to post it.

Back is still sore but I can move. Drove my daughter in to the city for a dental appointment then home after a few errands then turned my attention to the coils and plugs on my truck until I discovered that I had ordered the wrong coils. Who knew there was two different types of ignition coils for a 3.5 v6? Oh well. Amazon return is in process and the correct ones ordered. I then spent 2 hrs changing the headlights in the truck from stock halogens to led. Supper is in the oven. I don't have to go anywhere until 6pm. Break time.

Not a whole lot today as my back is fd again but I did get outside to clean up a chunk of frozen animal carcass off my wife's vehicle. She was driving home last night from the city alone on the hwy when something hit the windshield. Of course it froze but upon closer inspection, there was raw meat, fat, and animal fur so I guess probably a deer carcass was being eaten by an eagle an as it was flying with a chunk of flesh, a piece broke off?!?!? Seems plausible.
