What are you doing today, II

We celebrated our Christmas with the kids and grandkids a week ago Saturday, so it's a quiet Christmas eve and Christmas here. Just wife and I. I don't mind but she is missing the big family gatherings we used to have on Christmas day and Christmas eve.

Kobe was taken to Grandma’s house, he will be there for the holiday. Just Melen, the lovely Mrs_Bob, her sister and me for today & tomorrow.

Next weekend we will celebrate again with both Kobe & Dasha added to the group. That celebration will likely be at Melen’s condo in Chicago.

Christmas eve has turned into a recovery day for us as we were out last night and the lovely missus had a bit of a rough time. 😳 🤣😂🤪

We're having some guests over tomorrow night for dinner. Today's just quiet.

Edit...lmao. look who decided to join us for Christmas dinner. I just put away all my hunting stuff yesterday.

Celebrated a late Christmas today.

Dasha was in San Diego for Christmas with a friend of her 'real' family. She came home a few days ago and is staying with Melen at her condo in Chicago. But between my foot recovery, the lovely Mrs_Bob recovering from her eye surgery and Kobe's schedule we were unable to all get together until today.

So we had another Christmas today. Up at 5am today, I made a brown sugar glazed ham and home made baked beans early this morning. Melen and Dasha prepared the condo, made green bean casserole and cheesy potatoes. The lovely Mrs_Bob managed to take care of Kobe, make deviled eggs and also made homemade fudge (with walnuts). So everyone pitched in and nobody had to do too much work. We were joined for the dinner by our Godson Matt and his parents. After dinner we exchanged gifts, sat around talking and eventually departed for our respective homes. Dasha staying with Melen until she returns to Notre Dame . . . date to be determined, but I'll probably drive her back sometime between Jan 10 and Jan 13th.

Got home late this evening.

Foster son Kobe, adopted daughter Dasha, and crabby old Bob.

So, from our house to yours...MERRY CHRISTMAS!

SFA again today. My back has been flared up since boxing day. Barely been able to make it unassisted from the bedroom to the kitchen. Hate this damp mild weather. I've been sitting in the bedroom with the heating pad on binge watching TV for days.

How do they say? Back to the grind? Kids back to school today. Wife working. I had an appointment while our oldest son drove our daughter to another. I picked her up afterwards then went to pick up our other daughter from school for her placement. Came home. Drove her to placement then went to work on the plow truck. The starter was sticking yesterday and one of the valves in the pump for the plow was dirty preventing it from turning side to side. I popped the coil off which sits over the valves that controls the hydraulic flow. The valve just unscrews allowing you to clean anything clogging it. Just for reference, I already had one sourced on Amazon. 😆

This evening I will be going to supervise my scouts while they go downhill sledding. And we apparently have a storm coming.

Just drove the lovely Mrs_Bob up to/back from the eye surgeon in Chicago. Got good news. Her eye is healing nicely after the surgery. She lost sight in one eye this summer. It came back. Lost it again. Came back. But it was getting worse. On thanksgiving day she lost it completely in the one eye.

She had been in/out of the eye surgeon's for check ups, she had an intitial laser surgery that they HOPED would work, it did not.
So a week before Christmas she had actual invasive surgery. Lens cut off, stuff poked inside her eyeball (a little more technical than that, but you get the gist), and the lens then sewn back onto her eye. Doc said she hoped she'd get back no less than 85% of her sight in that eye and hoped it would stabilize the problem long term.

She has been going to the surgeon almost every week for the past 3 months. He tried several things, until finally the surgery.

Seems to be working. He said she can lift again. She can drive again. Restrictions on her activities are removed. She goes back in 3 weeks, but he says its looking very promising.

Leaving for Purdue in about an hour.

Tonight is my return to coaching fencing at Purdue. I'll be doing that in my big protective orthopedic boot, so it could be interesting. I suspect most of my coaching will be verbal; I'm not even taking any weapons with me to practice so beat the kids about their heads. Probably should take a pocketful of Halls throat drops because of all the expected yelling.

Hit the ground running again today. First, I plowed the driveway again then hauled all the remaining Christmas decorations into storage above the garage. Then headed to the city to pick up my daughter from school. Back home where I had to vacuum the whole main floor to clean up all the fn needles all over the place from the 4 Christmas trees we had up. Then some reorganizing and dusting. Drove my daughter to placement at 130 then back home to load up a garbage run for the dump. Back home to plow some more then back to pick up my daughter at 4. Home to make supper. Back to the city to pick up my daughter from her guiding program. Finally get to sit at 9pm. Lol

Driving up to Melen's condo to pick up Dasha and bring her home for the rest of the weekend. Dasha's classes at Notre Dame resume on Monday, so she will spend a couple nights here with us and we will head to campus on Monday. We will also be picking up Kobe for the weekend. The sideways snow, iced over roadways, and miserable driving conditions led us to leave him with Grandma & PaPa for an extra night, so we get him today now that the roads are mostly clear and safe instead of yesterday.

SFA!!! Not a single plan. The weather outside has dropped us into a deep freeze with a -25 Celsius windchill so anything outside is off the table. Might play some guitar. Watch some TV. Is 11am too early to start drinking? Asking for a friend. 🤣

Same thing. -40 windchill. I did hang a picture in our bedroom and took some time to sort through all my clothes in the closet. I could seriously wear a new outfit every day for 2 months without repeating. 🤣 Time to purge.

Not in my book. First time in ages we went out to a Bloody Mary breakfast. Fresh sausage, eggs, hash brown, sausage gravy and Bloody Mary's. Had 3 of Gene's famous Bloody Mary's along with breakfast. A good deal for 16 dollars, but I won't be worth much for the rest of today.

Freezing my ass off!
-9% F this morning.
Furnace going non-stop, cannot keep up.
House is in the 60's
Greenhouse is 35% F
This is the first time the furnace could not keep up.
My house was originally 1,500 sq feet. It is now almost 2,500 sq feet.
Everything I built on is well insulated. And, I plan to add another 160 sq feet this spring. Looks like I need an upgrade.

I have never replaced the front windows. There are four of them @ 60" X 36". Wood frames, over under, with single pane glass and storm windows. A huge heat loss thru them. Built in 1973 when I flipped the house on a very tight budget. Every year I swear to replace them, but the cost was high and the project messy.

Window World quoted $2,500 last summer. Doing it myself would be about half of that.

Vivek Ramaswamy is going to be here in Spencer this morning, so I'm going to see him for the second time. Trump is my favorite by far but he would be my second choice.
I have watched a lot of his speeches. Vivek is bold and sounds honest. He sounds good but I suspect his promised goals are unattainable.

He is currently my second choice.

-9 is pretty cold, you are officially freezing your ass off. Been lighting the fireplace to knock the chill off at 65 in the house.

He said in his speech that one of the things he wants to do is dramatically downsize the government, starting with the FBI and a bunch more. Well, the government ganged up on Trump for a lot less than that. I wonder where this is going.

I was supposed to be spending the night into tomorrow afternoon with Ty, Felicia and my Grandbabies, but their "Mother" stepped in and said no, she doesn't want them out in this weather.
What weather?
It's not bad, it's NOT snowing.
So I've been pissed off because they've been crying wanting to see me/Nana.
So they are at home right now crying for me with their Mother, and I'm avoiding the drama that my son's ex always throws into any situation.

Sorry for the family trouble pg.

I did the usual "dad's taxi service" thing today making a trip to the city to bring one daughter to her specialized school program then decided to just drive around for an hour killing time waiting to pick up my other daughter from school for her placement. Then the 25 minute drive home and to drop her off at the horse ranch. She's done tomorrow but will be staying on as a volunteer on Saturdays to help feed and groom the 30+ horses they have. And they've offered her a summer job.

This afternoon I turned my attention to my oldest son's vehicle we just finished repairing. We had a couple of small issues come up today that we got dealt with at the local shop. Now it's 🍻 time!

I'm used to it Brian.
She's been a constant throwing out drama and crap since I lived with her and Ty several years ago.
I'm glad he finally got rid of her and found Felicia.
She is a second Mother to my Grandkids.
A real Mother, not a birth mother who tries to pretend she cares.
I should just stop talking about it.
If I don't, I'm going to say things that I'll regret later.
😢
