What are you doing today, II

PT today was very light workout, followed by pressure and message, followed by "tens" and ice.

From there I went directly to give a fencing lesson. The PT office is literally just up a flight of stairs from the fencing club. So when I say directly to a fencing lesson I mean within a couple minutes.

2 bourbons (Maker's Mark) later and I'm still sore.

Today was a 2 Tramadol (mild opioid), 8 Advil, and 1 prescription NSIAD day. The pain has been pretty bad for 36+ hours. I'm sure grouting tile didn't help. Fortunately PT didn't seem to hurt too much. And for the fencing lesson I had 2 students so most of it was me directing the 2 of them to hit or defend each other, with me doing minimal blade work. So pretty much low activity for me for this lesson, other than running my mouth.

I did stop at the local adult beverage store and scored a bottle of 15 year old Whistle Pig bourbon, cost a pretty penny but it's a desirable bottle that goes into the cabinet for a special occasion. Also got a bottle of Jefferson's Ocean TROPICAL, which is bourbon, put on a ship, sent to a jungle for aging in a high humidity jungle and then finished aged in Singapore. I'm looking forward to cracking that seal.

bummer, insurance will likely total it.

Yep. But unfortunately he was only covered for liability insurance as in ontario, insurance rates are ridiculous to begin with and he couldn't afford 600 a month just for insurance. If there's no lein against it, you can opt for just liability. Until you have insurance for a few years and the price comes down, collision insurance is simply unaffordable. Not bad if you only have a $1500 beater. But up here, that thing was probably worth around 9k. I'm getting it towed here. We'll park it out back and I may decide to start pulling things off the front to see if I can scavenge the parts myself to repair it through the scrap yards. Meanwhile he's back to driving the old grand am.

Ouch and glad he is okay.

$600 per month for insurance wow!

I just renewed my 2022 Honda Accord insurance, and it was $812 for a year.

It's been a crazy busy last couple weeks. This weekend need to go clean out my mother's house as she is in the nursing home. So they can sell it. I'm sure it's going to be an interesting weekend, hopefully all the siblings get along... I think we all know how that's going to end. So a 1300 mile round trip in a 20 ft. U-Haul in four days. This ought to be fun... Not so much. Wish me luck and hope I don't have a heart attack. Highs are supposed to be in the low 100s. I can think of about a million things I'd rather be doing on Labor Day weekend.

I can sorta feel your pain on this one. When my dad passed away in 21, they had 3 properties in the city. I've been busy the past 2 years running around helping mom to downsize and consolidate. This summer mom did a property/house swap in order to get rid of one place that had been for sale for 2 years. I had to help her move. Then only 2 weeks later, my aunt decided that she was going to move in with mom. She'd been living in half of a duplex in town which my parents owned. So I had to help move her over as well.

Been a day of small tasks, between working.

Ordered some accessories for my new jeep that should be arriving soon.
Last thing I want to get is a winch, trying to find which one holds the most line.
So many winches carry far too little line.

Work has been steady, but not crazy.

打乒乓球
No clue what that means.

I got up early, drove about 90 miles east to Notre Dame and painted a bathroom, hung a bunch of shelves, fixed a bed frame, painted a cabinet, shopped at Home Depot and Wal-Mart, hung some curtains, hung a shower curtain too. Generally did crap that dad's do, like take out trash and fix stuff.

And it cost me lunch and the 15 speed TREK bike I 'lent' to my child got stolen despite the warnings that it required a strong lock and it was an expensive bike and nobody listens to dad because he is an old, crabby, grey haired white man. WTF?!?! So now I have a kid who wants to 'pay me back' but can't afford to do so and needs my help and there is no way I can stay angry but, seriously, WTF and WHY THE HELL DON"T THEY LISTEN because we know exactly what we are talking about when we say thing because we have life experience and they are idiots!!!

FWIW, the fancy, expensive lock, that I bought, was still in the box that Amazon delivered. But the cheap lock that she bought for $9.95 was cut and discarded as trash. So again, WTF?!? And why don't kids listen to parents? But I suspect that is a universal question that has been asked by EVERY GENERATION in the history of the world. In today's crazy price world that is probably a $1500-$2000 bike. But I have not ridden it in years. Honestly I don't care that much. But I hope she learned a f-ing lesson.

Our kids are the same. From the time they turn 10 until they're 18, they don't listen and know it all. My oldest is currently learning a life lesson. He's 19 turning 20 in January. After he wrecked his car this week, he is starting to see that maybe mom and dad weren't so dumb 2 years ago when he was basically given a $14000 vehicle that he couldn't afford full insurance for so opted for only comprehensive coverage without collision. When it happened, we weren't aware of his insurance status and had the tow company haul it to their compound. It was delivered to our place late Thursday evening and yesterday was really the first time I had a good look at the vehicle. It CAN be repaired but all depends on his wallet. I laid it out for him saying that we won't let him drown but he has to feel the pinch a bit. For now, he's back to using the old grand am and here's how it's going to work....
WE, not just dad, will take the front end apart as far as the damage goes and start off month by month ordering parts. Start with the radiator and support bars. I'll order them and help install. When he pays me for those parts, then we order the front bumper, paint it and install. He pays me back then we order the headlights. Only 1 is damaged but for $146, I can get a brand new set shipped to the border. Up here, they'd be closer to $500. So that's my approach. I told him that this fall, we can move it into my shop and start tearing into it. It's either that or he has a $14000 paper weight sitting in the yard.

You are a good man!

Did some morning farm chores, and this afternoon have to deliver a semi truck load of hay to a customer.

Just hanging out with my daughter and girlfriend otherwise.
No big plans really for my day.

They never take care of anything given to them, when they start buying them, they instantly care about them. I did 3 different projects a 69 firebird for my daughter, a 1980 corvette for one son and a 1968 mustang for the other. All of them got totaled or traded away for junk. No more for me.

Rained yesterday and today its still raining off and on. So I'm not doing much. Tomorrow I think I will start converting the 24 v Cummins in my garage to a mechanical p pump. I have all the parts now, covid is over and the weather cooled off. I have no more reasons why I can't get it done.

Rented a pontoon boat with some friends and took "Captain Kobe" out for his first time out on a lake. After a couple hours on the boat we had a picnic on the beach and played at the beach for several hours.
I was pretty miserable all day. My right arm is in pain from my injury. It's been hurting badly for the last 48 hours. So I was mostly Mr Grumpy. But Kobe had fun!

Kobe sitting on Uncle Mike's lap while piloting the boat.

We've been at camp all weekend. It's been HOT. Daytime humidity is in the high 30s (Celsius for you sutherners). We spent almost 4 hours yesterday afternoon pulling the kids around on the tube at the lake. We open it up for anyone who is brave enough to through on a swimsuit and life jacket.

Some good friends of ours came out for a visit Friday and while they were here, he proposed to her sitting at our picnic table. 😀

Big parade in town, one of the oldest Labor Day parades in the midwest. Town festival too.

We will avoid it and just hang out at the pool. No visitors or guests. We've had plenty of excitement with friends and family for the past 2 days, so today is relaxation (recovery?) day.

Went to Hippie Ridge to level a spot for two Conex box's. The big JD310 is still down but with a back blade the old 39 FORD 9N could move the dirt.

NOPE, two flat tires and a dead battery.
So, I roto tilled the soil at 25' X 32'.
Then moved the dirt via the 1/3yard wheelbarrow.

Twenty-five loads.

It took me two 6-hour days.

I'm beat. Forgot to take pics but I will return on Wednesday and get some then.

The passed two weeks have sucked. First I got covid again, then went to the mountains and bacon one day and got a sinus headache that is just now going away, went to the field this morning, before I left I drank some coffee and some granola. Broke one of my pre molars on something in the cereal nd swallowed all of it. Dentist appointment is Thursday.

Thats sucks, hope its not too bad. Top of the bailer to the ground likely hurt some. Is it a wing, leg or all over?

Landscaping my side yard in town.

Last spring, I roto tilled my front and side yard putting all of my sod under. Then came the rains, so I could not finish.

I tilled in amendments to soften the clay and fertilize.
I finished the main front yard two weeks ago. Seed came up well under sprinkler hoses.

My lot is a corner and people tend to cut the corner and drive on my grass. So, I put a 24"wide gravel border between the curb and my lawn. Black vinyl edging control the gravel from the lawn.

Lots of shovel digging and some redneck carpentry get's it done.

In Chiraq visiting Melen. Took Kobe to the “Lit Faire” an annual literary festival about 2 blocks from Melen’s condo. Chicago style deep dish pizza at Lou Malnoti’s. Mostly just walked around, played with Kobe and relaxed. Going back home tomorrow.

Off to Hippie Ridge for two days of shovel work.
I have 30 tons of one inch minus to spread and neither tractor is up nor running.

Two Connex boxes will arrive Thursday afternoon and I must have the pads leveled.

No internet at Hippie Ridge so, I'll see you guys on Friday.
