What are you doing today, II

When our Company closed, we brought loads of stuff home filling it wall to wall with stuff to sort out. Most of the main level living area has been reclaimed over time. However, the garage, media room and the laundry room were wall-to-wall/floor to ceiling packed with "stuff."

Crumpy is on leave for three weeks as GM retools for the new model year. So, we are tackling these formerly delayed projects at home.

We have, adjacent to the laundry area, a 15' X15'wing in the lower level. (basement)that has been the repository for stuff, anything, we think we want to keep but for which have no place. Mostly blankets and laundry but also toys, model aircraft, exercise equipment, office supplies, knickknacks, the list is endless. It is adjacent to the actual laundry room but the mess is beginning to hamper activities there so, time to clear it.

We have five bakery style metal racks two of which are already there. We spent last Saturday clearing everything out and setting up the new racks. Sunday Crumpy began going thru all the stuff & making decisions of what to keep or toss.

Today, we have a clear floor in the room, a clean 96" X 24" worktable next to the washer. I was able to do laundry without using gymnastics. The lower-level media room is clear, we can have a fire in the fireplace and use the pool table for its intended purpose.

Today, both of us are beat so, we are recuperating. And enjoying the new spaces in our home.

Funny how much stuff we accumulate over the years. Above my garage is an open loft area. All finished with drywall and primed. We've got it half full of junk now. Some of it is decorations. Some bicycles. A lot of..."let's save this for when the kids move out". Next summer, we plan on spending a day sorting and tossing.

I just went to pick up my plow truck. Not looking forward to seeing the bill. New power steering pump and hoses. New starter. New fuel pump. I did the coils last spring. It's a rusty 2006 gmc 1500 HD with the 6 liter. Good enough for a plow truck for a few years.

We have a two car garage. 20' X 24'. Truss roof. 6'-12 pitch. I laid 5/4 treated decking over 1/2 of the stringer holding u the dry wall ceiling. Peak is 5 feet above the floor. I then put up a small fence and loaded the area with Christmas stuff. Christmas ONLY. The 12'X 20' is solid floor to roof, wall to wall. Suggesting WE HAVE TOO MUCH OF IT!

WE HAVE TOO MUCH OF IT!
Tell me about it. I spent a day last year organizing the Christmas decorations. We have 7 totes full of balls and ornaments all sorted by color depending on what we decide to put up every year. We have a 10ft tree in the living room. A 7ft for the dining room. A 6ft for the front family room. 2 trees for the entrance outside. And enough random ornaments for all of them aside from all the color coordinated ones separated in totes. Plus 4 totes full of lights. And another 4 full of garland. It's a process and full day to get it all up. We bring the trees up to the loft and set them back up. It looks like a forest up there. 🤣

Did get my son's first car done today. He has his driving test on Friday. Bought him a 2006 Buick Lucerne and he has no complaints with it at all. He was also involved doing it teaching him doing some things to it. Changed the oil and filter, rotated and balanced the tires. Now waiting on the brake pads since the auto parts store I deal with was closed for the day. Pulled the wheels off, needed brake pad replacement all 4 corners and I already turned the rotors. The tool kit he got for Christmas, a Craftsman set from my 2nd oldest brother, going in the trunk having a tool kit on hand

The lovely Mrs_Bob has been up in Chicago since Sunday evening because Melen has a bad case of the flu. No matter how old the kids get, they are still her babies. So up to the city she went.

Leaving me home and unsupervised.

I found a 6.5# Standing Rib Roast (prime rib) so I thawed it, cooked it to a nice rare/med rare and have been munching on that for a couple days. All the evidence of its existence will be gone before she returns.

Evidence? Gone? Maybe.

Are you sure you are that clever?

She may look for it, then again she may not even look for it. And since I do about half the cooking, and since the freezer it packed with meat, she may forget it even existed.

I'm hurting. What happened to the new year new me crap? My back hurts more today than it did yesterday. It's getting quite frustrating having to move every 10 minutes or so. I sit. My lower back thanks me but my upper back burns. I stand to get relief from the upper back pain and lose feeling to my legs.

About the only thing productive that happened was that I went outside to the sxs and drove out to my deer blind to bring in a chair for the winter as I won't be in it again until next October. I was out there yesterday bringing in my propane heater and subsequently took a branch to the eye. I can see out of it fine but it's sore and bloodshot.

Got up, took a shower and went to move my back hoe/ front end loader finding out I have to fix that after having breakfast. Hydraulic hose blew up trying to move the front bucket up. A trip to a hydraulic shop having a new hose made. Includes a trip to the auto parts store for the brake pads for the Buick so I can get that off my hoist

Isn't it just lovely when you blow a hydraulic line? I've had to lay underneath a trail groomer at -30 in the wintertime that had been sitting all night changing a hydraulic hose then try to start it. Fun stuff. Especially at 2am

My back is still hurting this morning but I managed to carry 5 5 gallon buckets of water from inside the house out to fill my hot tub in my house coat at -20. Now I'm enjoying it while checking out what's new in ff land.

I knew it was going to happen and was the last original hydraulic hose, a 1983 John Deere 410. Had to buy hydraulic oil too which is not cheap, $100.00 for a 5 gallon bucket of it

My new employee came by to drop off his toolbox and cart this afternoon. Found out he is a good wrench from a friend of mine coming in on time and hired him a week before Christmas. He came from a shop that closed down and I gave him a job offer. Fired my last one, was late and still buzzed coming into work. Plus I had to baby sit them at times and cost me money breaking parts on customer's stuff

We (wife and I) tried to make a trip to our cabin got 2/3 up the forest road up the mountain and it was getting slippery with ice under the snow the road is in a hollow with no sunlight.
Up top it didn't look to bad we had to turn around back to the house there's about 2" up there now.

I have an '83 JD310 backhoe with a bucket. Just when I think I have replaced every one of them, it breaks another. It is a beast that demands attention. But does the job.

I cannot scrap it,been good to me through the years.Had to rebuild the engine 3 years ago with the engine in it, started to take in coolant due to one of the cylinder liners was bad putting in all 4 including the pistons

Mine has a strong engine but the Hydraulics are weak. Bleed off on all cylinders so one must constantly lift the backhoe when doing front bucket work. The outriggers are solid.

I bought it as an ex-rental so it needed a lot of attention, repairs and maintenece. I am a fair mechanic and did a lot to bring it online and useful. Fortunately, I have a neighbor who needs the machine on his farm. He just happens to be a diesel/big rig mechanic.

So, last winter the radiator got repaired. A missing alternator was added. The gas gauge works, and from now on, he replaces any hoses that break.
The bleeding seals are annoying however, I imagine he will work on them, from time to time as he builds a new pond on his place.

Planning out plans to visit Arlington National Cemetary in March with a group of local veterans. I have always wanted to visit R Lee Ermey's final resting spot. He was my favorite famous Marine, my 4th oldest brother shown me the Rudolph vs Full Metal Jacket video with him as the voice of the Elf sounding like a drill instructor on youtube yesterday.

Get a hose and fill it from your hot water tank or an adapter that screws on the kitchen faucet

Got a job in for tomorrow I have to do, a 2009 Ford Edge doing a timing chain and guide job including water pump replacement. Customer brought it in for a noise before Christmas break coming out of the timing cover and agreed on the water pump replacement since I was going to be in there doing the job once. Water pump is not leaking at the moment and know it will leak later on

I'm trying to recuperate from an illness we cannot name. No cough or respiratory issues. Just full body aches, weakness, and pain with a High fever, 104 F. And a low one at 94F. Third day of this see saw..

I know I am old and many of these symptoms are sorta normal. But not the fever.

My normal at rest body temp is 96 to97 F. Yeah, I am a really cool guy. LOL.

Aspirin does not seem to help the fever or the pain.

If the fever does not stop by tomorrow I hope you visit your local ER. Best wishes.
Oh, I love those places.

Likely not as I am a former paramedic and a Sigma.
We do everything "our way." Even our health.
Especially issues of health!

So, I will be foolish and wait until Crumpy makes me go.

I'd say go.
*Edit*!
I haven't done much since Friday night, last time working.
Today I cleaned my apartment and made dinner.
Not worried about the big snow storm coming, because it's staying in central and southern Ohio.
Oh yeah, I gave Doc some site support $ for the forum. Figured since I've been here a long time, I should. 😉

Crumpy was leaving on Tuesday headed to Mahopac New York near Brewster. We have moved it back to Wednesday to give crews time to clear the roads. Her route takes her thru Indianapolis, Columbus, Wheeling and Washington PA on Route 70. Then the toll road to Harrisburg and I 76 to NY.
Our granddaughter is going to visit her mother for a few months so it will be a carload of inventory for her business, clothes, a big furry cat and a puppy.

Crumpy will come home almost immediately, assuming the highways are clear. At least I hope so.
