What are you doing today, II

RANT ON

I took my grandson driving (he has his permit) tonight the sun was in his eyes I'm yelling to get over as a bridge side wall was coming up
he still is fooling with sun visor.
I reached over and shut the car off, now he's pissed that I yelled at him and shut the car off.
I did that I told him to get out and look between the bridge and the car I had the window down and my hand was 1/2 way across the wall and there was only inches between my door and bridge. He say's "OH' I explained that if I raise my voice and tell you to do something stop what ever you are doing and do it and it goes for any time home on the road anywhere. He had a million excuses and wasn't happy i told him to pull up and I'm driving home.
When get home and he tells my wife (grandmother) and my daughter (mom) and I'm in the dog house for yelling at him I told them that it was yell or the car would be totaled you pick because if i cant yell I quit!

RANT OFF
Been there.
I am always amazed at the responses I get when such a situation occurs. Nothing but anger and excuses as to why they are upset with you. Always leaving one with a wonderment if, with all the yelling and self-centered emotion, any important lesson was learned.

Hauled the boat home from camp this morning. Woke up to frost on the windshield. Thick fog all the way home. I lit a fire in my old fire pit to burn off the remaining old wood and dead lawn clippings so I can get a machine in to dig it down and put some fresh gravel. It's full of nails from burning pallets. While it was burning, I fired up the mower and did the yard. Then turned my attention to the old chainsaw I brought back from camp. The clutch brake was all gummed up so I soaked it in brake cleaner and cleaned it up. That's the best the thing has run since my dad passed it on to me 15+ years ago. He had it in his logging truck to cut anything sticking out of the load of wood.

In Florida, just south of St Augustine.

Relaxing now, the ocean is right out our window.

Easy flight, but nightmare at the rental car agency. Next time I'll go back to one of the name brands. I used "Priceline" to book a car, they found me a good discount, but wasted 2 hours of my life.

Kobe & the lovely Mrs_Bob are out walking along the beach. I've decided to stay at the condo to cook dinner. Sky is overcast. Some rain. But that won't deter us this week.

Awesome Bob. I haven't been to Florida for 38 years. I don't do excessive heat very well as I learned in Charleston SC mid August for our honeymoon. It was 38 degrees celcius at 7am when I returned our rental car. It was probably mid 40s during the day. Our rental car actually overheated on us. I barely made it to a service station to buy antifreeze.

We had a small fire in our new pit last night. This morning is the first Pancake breakfast at the legion where we volunteer at with the scouts to clear tables. In return they sponsor us as a main part of our annual fundraising.

Our condo is oceanfront and overlooks the swimming pool & the beach. At the moment I am looking a rainstorm.

We were out playing in the water earlier, came in for lunch and the storm rolled in.

PBS Kids is on the TV Kobe is enjoying that. The lovely Mrs_Bob decided to take a nap.

In the midst of my wife's cold. She is about done,. I'm just getting started.
I took a massive dose of NyQuil and slept all morning.
Doing dinner now.
Smoked bottom round with fried potatoes, biscuits and corn on the cob.

Hope you feel better soon.

I woke up without a concrete plan this morning. As soon as the wife and kids were gone for the day, I decided to tackle the tedious task of steam cleaning our carpet in bedroom and washing the bed sheets. 2 hrs later, my daughter who only starts school in October offered to make breakfast. Sure. After eating, I headed out to fire up the chainsaw and worked on cleaning up brush for the fire pit area. 😎 I've got an idea rattling around in the back of my head and something brewing now that a permanent location is set. I just have to get a small backhoe in to dig a hole.

I've been working on reopening an old grown in trail between our place and the neighbors.

Back home from the work cabin trip, write up in the camp section. I swear when I get home from those trips, the next day I feel like I got jet lag.
Its the same with me after a long fire call I'm done for the next 24 hrs.
At 68 I don't rebound like I did when I was 24.
At 24 I could come back from a call get a shower make my lunch for work and go to work for 8 for without blinking an eye.

I'm a hot tub repairman today. We replaced one pump last fall. The other died last week. I had to drain it and remove the old pump then order one. It's the same but came with a pre installed mounting plate installed in the wrong location. I flipped the old one around and installed the mounting hardware that came with the new one. I've been working on filling it in increments as we're on a well. There's also a fancy sanitation bulb that wad burned out which I changed.

I've been working more than I'm actually supposed to be.
Since covid is now running rampant. 🙄
The weekend was a bitch with the ongoing staffing issues.

Squirrels ate the starter Chord on my Husky. I took things apart over the weekend and rebuilt the rewind system. .Spent the today putting it back together. It did not go well.
I used to rebuild small engines in my teen years, Once or twice over the decades since. It literally took me 3 1/2 hours and 10, yes ten, attempts. I won't go into the details but, they don't build them like they used to.

Unfortunately, the wood deck I was working on, was old and the boards rotten. I stepped thru twice. This was a ground deck so I didn't step far.

So, now I need to rebuild that. I will be placing patio stones on crushed limestone to match/extend the existing patio. Part of the old deck was actually a bridge over a small, decorative, trickling creek. (Actually, a gutter drain.) That part is still intact. But I will need to replace the wood decking with Composite that matches the big deck.

Went to work today after work my family and I labeled over 2000 pint jars for the fire company apple butter festival in October one of our major fund rasers for the year.
Any one want to come snit and stir its October 11 and 12 only 150 bushels to do.

Still working on my hot tub today. We had water delivered after I drained the well trying to fill it myself to save a couple hundred dollars. Turned it on and it was showing an error code. After spending a couple hours last night diagnosing it, we determined a faulty pressure switch is preventing the heat pump and one of the jet pumps from working. This morning I was crawling around under the deck adjusting support posts that were settling creating a sag in the middle of the deck. Then I started clearing out an area in the woods by the fire pit for an outhouse. There'll be no more running back inside for the ladies. For the guys....pick a tree. Any tree.

Edit...I started digging the hole and leveling the space where the outhouse is going.

This is looking into the area where it's going. It will be tucked in behind the big spruce tree on the right.

I dug a pit below the outhouse location.

Lucky, he wasn't driving with me and my 1950's mentality.

Kobe is enjoying Florida.

He never saw a real mermaid before. He also met the king rat. Goofy. Donald. Drove a race car, flew on Dumbo and with Peter Pan, saw the Tiki Birds and Swiss Family Robinson. And much more.

At camp since yesterday. Unreal weather. Damned near freezing first thing in the morning and now it's 22c and shorts weather. I borrowed an electric log splitter from a buddy to split a load of wood this morning after going for a sxs ride with my daughter. While moving the splitter from my trailer back to the golf cart to return to my buddy, it slipped out of my hands landing on my right foot. Now I'm sitting with foot elevated and ice on it contemplating a one hour drive to town to go for an xray.

Edit...a friend of ours at camp is a foot care nurse. She came and took a look and said it's just badly bruised.

After I got done with the seat project went to put new lights in our car port I couldn't find a red or green wire nut for the life of me and I need at least 10 of each , there at least 5 boxes at the cabin I hope I'll remember them tomorrow at least the boxes are in and wire is in just needs to be connected together.

Our boat was due for a good cleaning having sat in the water at camp all summer. I tackled the fall cleaning this morning after changing a burnt out low beam bulb on the truck. I sprayed the boat with "spray nine" and left it to soak a few minutes then washed it with a regular scrub brush and soapy carwash water.

That stuff is great for water lines and black streaks on rvs.

The lovely Mrs_Bob started a part time job at a doctor's office.

She has been retired for nearly 10 years and for the past year she has been saying she should get a job so she had something to do. So she is now training to be an administrative assistant for a doctor at one of our local hospital groups. It won't take time away from Kobe because she will be getting out early and only works until lunch on Fridays.

Renewed license plates on our vehicles.
Renewed my drivers license while I was at it, it expires next month anyway.
I'm sure the insurance premiums are probably due too!

Vacuumed the upstairs rooms. Shampooed the carpets upstairs for good measure. Fans are running in the rooms and hallway to make sure the carpets fully dry. The dogs, an I, have been exiled to the main living levels of the house.

Fencing lessons at my club this afternoon. Fencing practice at Purdue University tonight. I'm hoping to depart Purdue before midnight tonight.

The worse part I forgot to get them when I went up yesterday

I'm with two buddies at a resort on Lake Okoboji in NW Iowa. We've known one another since we were 7 years old. We had lunch at the Spencer County Club and it was great! Then Bob wanted to go to a casino about 40 miles away. The other two of us are not interested in gambling but we went. On my first play on a slot machine I won $55.00. I cashed out and walked away from the machines. Then we've been enjoying our time together.

My foot and back both agreed that I needed a day off today so I sat around all morning after cleaning up the house a bit.

We just got word that a friend who is a trucker hauling wood chips got into a serious accident killing and severely injuring up to 6 people in 2 different vehicles. It was a huge fireball explosion. He pulled out to pass and went head on.

Replaced the decking off the backdoor. I removed a portion of the stone patio blocks from the beer garden and reset them to the same height as the old decking. I had enough to repeat the pattern in the Beer Garden. With about 25 of them leftover.

The "Beer Garden" is a 10' X 24' paver patio built alongside the garage. It is now 10' X 36'

I resurfaced the old deck with grey/blue composite that matches the existing decks. I had to pull some stunts with new joists to marry the new deck to the new brick patio at a 15% angle. Just for flare.

About $ 100.00 worth of gravel, sand and lumber. Four days of tedious work. Worth every penny.
The bridge over the drainage creek is next. Same blue/grey composite replacing old rotten deck boards.

I'll try to get Crumpy to post some pictures.

Came out to camp this morning with our oldest daughter who we adopted through fostering to go bird hunting and get some work done at camp cleaning the deck with a pressure washer to treat it with Thompsons water seal. We were done hunting in 1.5hrs with a limit of birds. I even stopped for 20 minutes to target practice with dad's marlin 22 ducks unlimited.

The lovely Mrs_Bob went back to work. Last week was 'training' so this is her first real work week. 35 hours. Working for a hospital group.

I dropped Kobe off at daycare.

Stopped at HomeDepot for a spring for bi-fold door. Someone popped the door out of the track, the upper pin launched out, freeing the tension spring, which now inhabits some unknown hiding space, perhaps behind or under some bedroom furniture, or maybe in outer-space? In any case that spring is long gone and a new one is installed.

Making a pot roast in the oven for future meals.

I'll be roasting some beef ribs for dinner, along with making green beans and some stuffed portabella mushroom caps.

Probably pick up the house a bit, it is usually in disarray after Kobe. Some cleaning too.

Tonight is fencing practice at the club.
