1975 Tucker 1544 - project and trips

I had to locate the owner and ask him.
Hi lee,
It’s one in a thousand that can identify the car body but oddly enough there was someone last week that knew and had had one on the island. It’s a 1956 Lloyd. A German maker from Bremen that went out of business in 1962. Goggle will give you the details. It has a Datsun engine to further confuse!!

Worked a bit more on the idlers. Bought some 6” cast iron castors topped with some sort of hard Teflon. I pushed out the roller bearings and outer sleeves as I couldn’t come up with a way to use them.
I lathed out each side to take ball bearings. I used 3 6205 per idlers x 8 = 24 bearings.
I lathed up spacers to hold the center of the bearings apart so I can torque the assembly tight without compromising the bearings.

My Arctic electric snow blade power unit came in today.
I’m taking off all the hydraulic lines and that leaky mechanical hand control in the cab. Instead I will have the Arctic unit mounted on the blade support and just three electric switches in the cab.

tapered roller bearings or cylindrical roller bearings? "roller bearing" have long lines of contact and seriously better load carrying capacity than a same size ball bearing.

the 'std' deep groove ball bearing - 6205 is the size... - does not do well with axial aka side loads or misalignments....
you may want to consider opposing angular contact ball bearings - they a much more tolerant to axial loading.

I worked on the taper bearing idea (and the roller bearing ) for a while but couldn’t come up with a workable mount for what I had to work with. There shouldn’t be much side load as the idler is narrower than the track “groove”, and set close to the track sprockets that hold the track.
I used 3 bearings per idler so hopefully they will share the axial stresses.
The rotational load ability spec is 3,200lbs each bearing, and static is 1,600 lbs each.
We use the same bearings in snowmobiles for decades so hopefully they last as well.

Wondering what to do with the lines that came off the pump to the 6 way blade controller.
Can I just plumb the pressure line from the engine driven pump back to the tank? Issues?
The orbital steering plumbing off the pump is unchanged.

Took the pump down to the hydraulic pump shop and was told to just route the blade supply side back to the reservoir.
So I plumbed that live back through the filter into the tank.

Great looking cat.....I love the 5 pound hammer sitting by the can of WD
That handy persuader is always welcome when stuff needs a little BUMP

Indeed...GOTTA HAVE A DRINK HOLDER .....

What brand is the floor shifter???
The T handle is always cool.....

That is a B&M Star Shifter. You want to get the model that allows you to get back and forth from reverse to forward easily for snow plowing

I was in Medford Oregon last week. The nice people at Tucker gave me your for the manufacturing plant. Lots of cool stuff.
We were going camping anyway in southern BC so we decided to drop down to Medford and pick up a new steering Ram that the factory had.

I got rid of the Dodge charging system this spring after it burnt out $800 worth of gauges and nearly left me stranded.
The GM 3 wire 65amp alternator however never put out max 12.8v and couldn’t keep the battery charged. So I switched to a 100 amp alternator and it charges at 13.8 so I’ll have to see if that is enough.

Did some rewiring to take the current out of the ignition and put the draw through relays instead. This took longer than expected but I also got to label every wire. Looks like a bit of a rats net but at least I can understand what is going on and fix it.
