1975 Tucker 1544 - project and trips

Whoops, there is some bling! I hear good things from all my IH buddys putting efi on tired ih gas engines.

Looks like it worked out okay. After chopping off the “spike” and cleaning up the extra metal I now have a good spot for the hydraulic power pack.

I welded in a mount bracket and bolted it in.
I had to first take the reservoir tank off and rotate the suction line because of the angle the unit is sitting at. Then rotate the tank so the filter is at the top.

I also removed one set of electro magnetic coils as those two could only lift and gravity down.
No problem I still had 6 circuits left. I tried leaving the flow limiter in that reduces the speed of 4 circuits, but it seems a little faster with that piece removed for now.

The wiring is 6 so I used 6 wire trailer wiring to keep it nice and clean.
The 135amp circuit breaker and starter relay are mounted on the firewall.

Tested in the shop and blade lift/angle/tilt works better than with the engine driven pump. At an idle the engine pump could not move the blade much. Setting the blade when pushing snow is usually done at an idle before moving, so the engine pump was a real pain as I had to put the automatic transmission in neutral and rev the engine up each time to get some blade movement.

The hydro pack takes lots of juice, which is why I installed the 100 amp alternator.
The Tucker amp gauge is good for 60 Amps so I ordered a beefier gauge as I’m seeing 60 amps already. Also beefed up the alternator charging wires to 8 gauge wires and soldered ends. Don’t need something smoking when I’m along way from home.

Rams all resealed. Hopefully that is the end of the leaking.
Next fabbing up wings for the blade. One side will be welded solid, the other side will have a hinge so I can keep the width legal. Surprisingly difficult to source the large pin bosses to make the hinge.

Would anyone know where to find these window latches? Or what people use for replacement. See pictures. View attachment 169397View attachment 169398
YDPC,

I was looking for some of those same window latches a couple of years ago. I struck out.

From what I remember LeVan was a manufacturer of basically RV windows, and they were located in Long Beach, California. I think they are no longer in operation.

I have yet to figure out a substitute latch that works well....

Working on the blade today. Making some new snow wings. Only the driver’s side will be hinged to keep the width legal.
The overall push width is 9’6”.

Finished the folding wing. Keeping the bosses lined up so the pins slip in easy made for a long day.
Need to weld on some pieces tomorrow to anchor the blade end whips.

How does the horn button come off? I think I had it off before with push in a turn counter clockwise, but this doesn’t seem to work. I hate to pay on the Bakelite and snap a good piece.
There is also three small slots up the rubber closer to the center.

I can’t seem to find these lock washers that keep the hub on the spindle.
Has anyone found a source for these washers?
The washer has a 1 3/4” ID
It is #88 on the diagram.

Yes that would be them. Would anyone have an International or Spicer part number for these washers? I’m hoping one of our local dealers can order the parts if I can get them a good part number.

Why not just order online from that link? I love and support local business but find if it’s not a car or truck they lookup it’s a waste of time.

Can I get an oil filter for a slant 6? What’s it in? Tucker sno cat. Answer cant look it up. That’s why we are all here.

BFT had a good thread on this issue recently.

I do envy the USA advantage in ordering on line with the freight system.
In Canada freight costs are a killer. If I was to order a part costing $1000USD, and ship via UPS, I would pay shipping plus brokerage fees of 28% of the cost of the item. In Canadian funds the cost is $1400 plus 28% plus shipping.
If I can’t convince the suppliers to ship via USPS because there is no brokerage fees, I don’t order. It is a real hassle.
I submitted a question on shipping to the people at Torque King.

if you haven't tried them, Applied Industrial Technology. I've had great results in using them for seals, bearings, specialty stuff (where I got the lock washers for my snowtrac, that everyone else said not available) and since they have Canada locations you should be able to source through them with little hassle.

In Canada Applied Industrial Technologies does not offer any supplies related to automotive. They also can not import anything off the catalogue items that the USA branch offers.
I’d have to deal directly with the USA company.

ugh, though none of my snowcat parts were "automotive." Just regular power transmission.. maybe ntn.ca might do. sorry.

I found your IH cross searching another forum. IF you can find it, the part number is 65678r1. After you see the price, you'll end up back at the Torque King website. Holy cow. The info I found was from 10 years ago:

I'm confused (easily done, unfortunately).

I am under the impression you have Dana 60 axle assemblies in your Tucker... but the exploded view diagram in post 320 is from a Dana 44.

All of our Tuckers have Dana 60 axle assemblies and we use these.

They are Spicer part number 30637, and are frequently sold in a box of ten.

If you elect to use those and you can't get them at a reasonable price, shoot me a PM. I've got some spares and I'll send you a set.
