What are you doing today, II

I have been redoing my entire lawn since April. Rototilled the whole thing. Twice. Nd then added some amendments to break down the clay and fertilizers to promote a good lawn.
After two months with very little rain, we have had some gully washers. Finally, enough moisture in the soil for the amendments to work the clay soft and powdery. So now I can start releveling and grading, by hand, the dirt into new shapes to match the grass to the gardens and rock walls.

Only now the clay is gooey muck. Still, I can do the black edging near the street. I have a corner lot so I put a 22" rock border along the street pavement to prevent ruts from bad drivers and folks who think it is ok to place wheels on my grass when parking. That is why I use the black plastic edging.

I have about 220 feet of it to stake into place.

I plan to get seed down within a week and then, GUARRANTEED,,, it won't rain for a month.

Painted the ceiling in the kitchen this morning. Went to the dump. Came back and worked on the lawn tractor for a couple hours finally repairing the cracked hood I've been meaning to fix since we moved here in 2019. Then back inside for a second coat.

Wife's sister has been visiting, she leaves Thursday, so tomorrow I am taking her and the wife out to the boat then to a nice lunch somewhere. Today was just another hot work day.

Finished work early today. Came home about 2:30 PM and sat down on the bd. Iwoke up 3 hours later having no idea I had gone to sleep.
I must be tired or something.

I've been running my arse off lately so I came out to camp alone yesterday for the night for some much needed r&r. I barely left my site today and have been sitting here by the fire for hours.

I went thru the Dairy Queen on Scott street to indulge in some not so healthy grub.
I've been fairly busy with the sons and grandkids when I'm not working very few shifts at Northcrest.
I love being partially retired.
Yay! Lol

Introducing the wife and kids to true campfire cooking using cast iron.

First, from cold water to boiling in 5 minutes for oatmeal with sliced apples this morning.

I just fried up hamburger for tonight's supper of homemade hamburger helper over the fire.

Very nice 👌

I decided that today was the day to give some attention to my flat deck trailer. I started off by grinding all the rust and flaking paint with a wire wheel then had a couple spots to weld up before painting it.

I don't know where I'd be without it. I haul stuff to and from camp almost every weekend with it. It's my weekly garbage trailer as well as my side by side trailer. I've hauled canoes on it. I've used it to move. Considering that I only paid $1500 for it, even after new tires, wheel bearings, and springs, I'm barely over 2k all in and it's built solid. Next up is an additional layer of decking over the original which is still mostly solid aside from a couple of rotten areas so keeping it as a base for the new decking to screw down to will be the easiest. I'm just going to use 12ft deck boards and screw them down.

(sigh) remember those days well, , , had a small steel utility trailer - the thing rusted out in 4-5 years. not even enough left to weld anything to . . . I learned that rust does not actually melt&fuse . . .

couple years back, bought an all aluminum (steel axle, etc) 4x8. we back up to old growth oak & poplar, so in the spring I have to pressure wash off all the accumulated junk - but it's been a 'joy' to have.
altho it's 'all aluminum' the manufacturer used electro-flash galvanized fasteners. (!) I've replaced most of them with stainless - the long bolts for the wheel jack are still to be done.

Phase 2 of the flat deck trailer rebuild. I painted it and did some welding earlier this week. This morning I laid down a new deck over the old one. My son helped screw down the deck boards. I also took the opportunity to teach him how to use a table saw, skilsaw, and reciprocating saw. Started at 8:30am. Done by 10am. Good thing as we had a thunderstorm this morning and it is heating up to the 30s this afternoon.

Very nice weather for this week in late July, mid 90's with very low humidity. Lite breeze. If you are not in direct sunlight its very comfortable. Now its lunchtime

Making what I hope is the last trip to Hippie Ridge with furniture and materials from the Excalibur building. i had to rent a U-Haul box trailer as my two trailers are still parked there and loaded.

Other than unloading, I plan to rest this weekend. It is too hot to do much work.

Today I Loaded a few semi trucks with hay, went horseback riding, and flew my paramotor.
Absolutely loving my new farm life.

We got down to Hippie Ridge late Saturday afternoon. Beautiful sun set coming and a lovely warm day.
We set up chairs, extended out the awning, and began to sit with drinks and enjoy the evening. Work could wait until Sunday.

Suddenly the sky grew dark, and it began to rain a gentle rain which turned quickly into Hurrican force straight line winds. They tore off the awning, bending the frame and leaving us a tangled mess. It tok over a hour to get the thing stowed away.

We spent Sunday unloading furniture, machinery, and tools. Drove home tired but happy the job was done. We pulled up to our house to find it too had suffered damaging winds and fallen trees. My neighbor had one half of an Ash tree fall on his roof. My luck was a little better as, despite branches everywhere, no damage to the house
