What are you doing today, II

We spent the weekend at Hippie Ridge. What a mess from the recent storms.
I am making the final connections to the 240amp power on the pole with the utility shed. 120 feet of cable in 2 1/2" conduit pipe buried 6 inches down in what will be a gravel driveway

I install a Square "D" panel at 200 amp for the house to be built and the three RV's parked in the compound. I still have to wire for the RV outlets. The guest house "barn" and Conex boxes will get sub panels of 60 and 30 amp service. But that is next year's work.
Thanksgiving holiday, I will be wiring circuits and boxes for the RV's currently on very long extension cords.

Not good.

My '95 Dodge one-ton threw a shoe this weekend. Hydraulic clutch actuator failed. We drove home without a clutch so basically; I had to shift synchronizing gear changes. Same as double clutching but much trickier. First gear was impossible when stopped with a running engine. So, I shut it down, crammed into first and I hit the starter. Off we went every time. Then just up shift, or down, spinning the engine to match. 250 miles and we got home.

It reminded me of grandpa's old REO on the farm. We used it to pull the hay rack and the morning feed wagon.

Tuesday, over to the shop.

Tuesday, I have to go back to the packaging business again. An old customer wants to retry running a promotion only my former company has the proprietary tooling to do. Very good margins.

We shall see.

I'm in so much pain right now! But it was a good day.

Coached Purdue Fencing yesterday, left campus at midnight. Arrived home 90 minutes later. Slept in late today. This afternoon I was at Melen's condo in Chicago finishing up the baseboards and quarter round on the window seat that I built for her. Then off to University of Illinois/Chicago (UIC) as a special guest coach for their team. Two hours of very active coaching and not only did I lose my voice, but every muscle in my body is hurting.

UIC has no coach, but I know the president of their club and the team is building. So I came in as a guest coach and it was really a good experience. Kids were incredible, very appreciative of my assistance, very much interested in learning. Conditions at UIC for fencing are pretty rough, rooms are too small, too crowded, but the kids have spirit and desire. Good experience. But traffic and parking are a total pain in the arse. They want me back, but if I go it will not be on a regular basis.

Double bourbon poured, half of it has been downed, pain continues. I might need 2 doubles?

Been there, with brakes too.

Finally finished a packaging quotation for our neck-hanger sampling program. As I have been away from the industry, most of my supplier contacts were difficult to get component pricing and service. From my old company office, I could have done it in a day or two. This time ,,,; two weeks.

Prices from 2018 were irrelevant as everything costs much more. Overall, repeating exactly, the project we did in 2018, priced out at 150% over original.

Pretty good reflexes for 64 years of age. . . also, this is why I need pain meds :yum:

Coached at the Purdue Open today.

Approximately 150 contestants over 6 individual events. We had MIXED and WOMEN'S events.

Good day.

One of our very young city police officers took his own life over the weekend.
I did not know him well, but certainly knew of him.
It's turned the city of Napoleon upside down.
A bit ago, he was escorted to the funeral home.
I'm questioning why he would do this, but it doesn't matter now.
You're in Heaven now Tyler.
Thank you for your service to our community.

Head cold still kinda lingering but I drug my butt down to the garage to change the rear brake rotors. 3rd set since 2018. I don't bother spending big $ for higher quality pads and rotors anymore as they don't last. The expensive ones rust just as fast with the salt they use. I also sprayed a layer of undercoating on the truck frame to protect it from salt as well. This afternoon I changed the temperature sensor on the hot tub. Not difficult at all. Scouts tonight. We're doing leather work.

Butchered a deer. Started at 10:30 this morning with it hanging in the garage. Took me an hour thirty to butcher the meat off the bone. 20lbs All vacuum sealed not including 10lbs of ground venison I made with all the scraps. Ran it through the grinder twice. Then measured 2lb pkgs. All done by 4pm even with a trip to the city in there to pick up my daughter.

I worked at camp yesterday finishing off screwing the drywall in our bed room. i got a new CPAP in the mail yesterday (my old one was dying) set it up didn't get a good night sleep between the pain and CPAP got up late as i was getting a shower the propane guy called to deliver to camp I scrambled to get breakfast ingredient's and lunch stuff ready headed up to camp. Made breakfast puttered around putting some small dry wall pieces up that I didn't need help for. Propane got delivered worked on installing new propane heater in the bedroom has a clearance issue had to move 2 bureaus. Searched on how to do clinical set up on CPAP fixed that we will see tomorrow morning. headed back up to finish off the heater and work on studding out another wall.

I spent four hours today, mowing the leaves on my lawn into mulch.
It normally takes me only 30 minutes to mow my lawn.
At most one or two bags but today; seventeen.
I used them to mulch my many flower beds.
It seems I planted far too many trees.

If you blow your leaves into windrows then back your mower over that, it'll mulch them really quick. ;)

Thanks, but I would still have 17 bags of mulched leaves.
......and a lawn to mow.

Besides, only the front lawn is of size and shape to use this method.

What I did do with the blower is push leaves out of the big flower beds in order to be mulched with the rest.
But running them thru the mower, they are cut to smaller pieces, break down well, and with a bit of sand tossed over them, they compost over winter and create a very loamy soil.

My house was originally built on clay sub soil. It barely sustained the growth of weeds, much less, grass and flowerbeds.

In the last 50 some years, I have raised my lot several feet above original grade. With the addition of a 3-4 foot retaining wall, made it more level. Now, all of my property drains to the street instead of my neighbor's basements.

Back in the deer stand most of the day today. No deer but definitely lots of signs of them being there. Sighted in the crossbow. Getting colder. Below freezing all day. I was warm though. I felt a pop in my lower back yesterday and was limping around quite a bit. The deer probably knew that I couldn't drag it out today anyways. Lol.

Back from Black Bear hunting I didn't see any game except 2 doe deer:( not even a squirrel season runs until Wednesday but without the hunter's out there pushing them around its almost useless trying to get one.
It was good seeing every one at camp 2 cook's and 18 hunters that I get to see once per year.

Deer seasons starts next Saturday I don't know if i going out yet but you never know.

Not much today, was supposed to load some equipment in the shop and go install it but the paint was tacky and it’s raining all day, took the wife out for lunch, now sitting in front of the fireplace.

We had our first snow. It packed like ice on the roads. I was sliding in 4x4. Started with black ice this morning. A school Bus ended up on it's side in the ditch. No injuries.

And....it's winter. A balmy -5 c. I decided it was time to feed the squirrels and blue Jay's again this morning. Those darned deer keep eating my feed pile. So I decided that I would have to do my part to protect the little defenseless chickadees and other forest creatures from those greedy deer.

Nice. I'm hunting crossbow as it's literally in my back yard. We're in the country roughly 15 minutes from a city of 115000. Our property borders a small village of 200 so we're only zoned for archery or shotgun due to the firing distance of the ammunition. I've had a couple deer come in close to the blind.

A very lucky shot , but very proud of her , she stuck it out over some long days and it paid off .
