Relaxed in the morning. But told my friend I'd be in Chicago at dinner time. He needed to borrow some tools for his fencing club on the north side of the city. I screwed up, I'm supposed to be in Chicago SATURDAY. Basically I promised to bring him a couple tools he really needed and then I was wrong about the date.
He is remodeling his club, it is shut down and every day closed is lost income. So with my error realized, I drove the tools to his doorstep, about 80 minutes up there. Not a big deal, but the timing was bad and I was up on the city's north side, departing at the start of rush hour. DAMN. Didn't get back home until almost 7:30pm this evening.
Departed my home about 1:30, so a 6 hour round trip. Yes I did stop at the famous SUPERDAWG for dinner, that's 30 minutes of drive thru goodness in the car. And yes, I did spend about an hour+ at his fencing club offering suggestions and trading ideas. But the other 4 hours was mostly stuck in traffic. He helps my students a lot so I honestly felt it necessary to make the trip. Had I realized my mistake earlier, I'd have left the house earlier and probably shaved at least an hour off the time I spent sitting traffic. Its not a bad drive if you time it correctly, but time it wrong and you simply are stuck.
