Today I had a little time after morning chores, Last fall I noticed some dry rot in the eves at the gutter joints. Looked minor until I started poking at it, then discovered it went 3' in both directions. I had a plan to pull the gutters, fix the facia then go back with a Rainhandler system. It has little curved flat bars that break up the stream coming off the roof into rain again to prevent clogging, leaking and ground damage. Last fall I discovered that the gutters are lipped under the tile on the roof and also nailed. Today I jot a big pry bar and a big cup of coffee and went after it. I was able to tear the nail holes out and get the gutters off without damaging the roof. It wasn't easy but got it all but about 20.' Next weekend I will get the rest of it and start the facia repair and paint. My plan has taken a hit though, as Rainhandler went out of business and they are out of stock everywhere they were sold, Homedepot etc. Looks like I will be making something similar in the shop. Im done with gutters.

Amusing myself on a Facebook community group over two young girls bringing their horses in the store (Walmart) with them.
The horses were well behaved, although they did 💩, which is what horses do.
Lots of people are all freaked out over it.
Well, they somehow walked in and got all the way into the back of the store to electronics.
Security nor management seemed to care, so ...
🐎 😄

Monday = Notre Dame with Dasha to pack up her clothing, decide what to do with her furniture, load the mattresses into he truck, etc.

Today = return to Notre Dame with Dasha to pick up the kitchen, bathroom, haul out the furniture that needs to be donated, the rest of the furniture will be picked up by others.

With any luck (we have a pretty good plan) today will be a short day and I'll be home by 4pm to open the fencing club. Truck will still be loaded when we arrive at the fencing club, but that should not be a problem.

Fun? Uh, no. But necessary.

They had a $10,000 helmet but I thought this was a better value!

Last pick up load of "stuff"

We are done. Honestly I teared up a bit when we finished our last walk on campus. She was glad to be done, is glad to move on. Has a big $$$ job at Apple, starts in July. We leave for a road trip to take her out there late this month. Despite a starting salary that is greater than most Hoosier families with 2 incomes, Dasha will be living just above the poverty level in San Francisco because of the high cost of living out there. She will learn. She will learn the hard way.

But for now its just nice to have her home for a couple of quite weeks before the trip to move her onto the next chapter of her life.

Nice pictures. Wow. Has she ever grown up.

I spent half the day driving back and forth to the city. First to drive my daughter to school. I had just returned home when the phone rang. My truck is ready. It was in the body shop for a week repairing the mirror door fender and painting the hood. They were damaged in March in a snow storm after my 4x4 kicked out causing the truck to slide backwards into a tree. So I drove back to the city to pick it up. Then home for lunch. Back to the city to pick up my daughter.

Not sure about the rest of the day, but one of my fencing student's parents keep giving me plants. Perennials and annuals. Just finished getting the last of the perennials into the ground in a flower bed that was somewhat neglected and needs to be refurbished. So that project is an ongoing thing.

My shoulders, arms and wrists are all sore from digging in the heavy clay of that garden bed. Going to have to take a tramadol and some advil. Just need to work up the energy to go get the pills.

This morning at 8am I delivered hot coffee to both the lovely Mrs_Bob and Dasha in their respective beds. That was 90 minutes ago. Both asked to be awaken about 8am. I hear Dasha, playing too loud music in her room. Not so much activity up in the master bedroom.

That is so sad to hear.

Better luck tomorrow

We had a 24 foot branch off a Pin Oak land atop our plum trees. Some 20 feet off the ground and above the Koi Pond. It took a bit of engineering to get a ladder set where I could cut the limb in big chunks and get it down.
I tied the top of the extension ladder to the plum tree and had a fairly stable platform.

No falls and all fingers and toes are still attached.

Couple weeks ago I bought a used Komatsu 2.1-t excavator. Not a bad old machine and got it for a good price. The dozer blade cylinder was leaking so I ordered a kit along with all the filters, engine, fuel, hydraulic and air. Today after the shop duty I rebuilt the blade cylinder. Not too bad of a job and went pretty good. It now doesn't have a leak. I lifted the machine with it then left it for an hour, no leaks and didn't bleed off, so it was successful. Next I will do all the maintenance with the filters and put it to work around here. My ditches are silted in, plus after the big storms it will come in handy clearing all the down trees and branches. The I have an acre or two covered in sagebrush making that part of the land unusable and a fire hazard, it will work perfect for that. When I'm done around here, it will go to the mountain for dead tree removal and roads maintenance and cut in a few new roads. Also been thinking about a small pond and have the perfect place picked out for it where I can use the overflow from the spring fed water tank to fill it and keep it full. Almost forgot, I ordered a thumb kit for it to make it easier to pick things up without having to get off and rig it with a chain.

Heading out to a scout camp for the weekend. It's the final one of the year until September. This is an all sections camp meaning the younger kids will be there as well ages 6-18. My troop has the older kids who know how to wipe their own butts and can actually tie their shoes.

Reactions: Doc
Busy day.
My daughter in law Felicia's daughter graduated.
One of my former rehab patients also graduated (from an extended rehab facility in Toledo).
That kid has been through hell and back since he took a gang hit in Toledo.
I am proud of both of them for entirely different reasons.
Bree and "G".

Another thing, for the second time in the past week, I had the same Jehovah's Witnesses knocking on my door.
The biggest mistake I ever made was actually answering my door last week and talking to the one lady. She handed me a flyer stating that there was going to be some sort of epic thing going on at x place. I said oh thank you. 🥴
Today I did not answer the door... just stood there peering through the blinds as they drove off.
I should have answered the door and showed them my rosary.
Good grief.

First job with the excavator wasn't a pleasant one, my sons dog died yesterday, Dutch Sheppard, Bandit was a good dog and made it to13. We think he had heart failure. Last summer we took him to the work cabin, and went on a steep uphill hike as my son wanted to pick a cabin site on the mountain. when we got back Bandit laid on the floor for more than 2 hours trying to catch his breath and it was only about 70 degrees. I think that was the start of it.

My Mower has been down about 3 weeks as the deck kept throwing belts due to blown bearings on the idler pulleys. You would figure a city of 115000 would have a couple of 5 inch Mower pulleys. Wrong. I ended up searching the Canadian Amazon and ordered a new set of pulleys. They were the wrong ones. So I ended up finding them on Amazon usa and had them shipped to the border. I went down to the Minnesota border and picked them up this morning. It's a 45 minute drive from my house. Installed them when I got home. They worked. I spent 3 hours mowing. Started with over a foot of wet grass.

I finally reserved an excavator with a 4' bush hog attached. Rented it for a week starting July 9th. It will allow me to cut back the side of my trails that are way overgrown. Wife and I are constantly trimming. Once I prune with this excavator minimal trimming for the next year or two I hope.

Are you procastinating or you finally got some free time?
I'd love to be in your position if so...
Actually no, I wasn't.

Today I took a walk out in this heat because it's what I do, DAILY.
It wasn't my usual power walk, it was more like a stroll from my street and up the avenue in a circle, then back out on my street down to a nearby park, only after crossing over the main drag that is undergoing major construction now.
Then I came back home and made dinner.
I'm partially retired from nursing after 44 years.
That being said, I'm doing a night shift on Saturday because I was asked.
The End lol

Last weekend I welded a mechanical thumb on the excavator, now I don't have to get off and rig everything I need to pick up. Today I got back from the field early so I changed the oil, greased everything and changed the oil in the finals. Now I'm good for 100 hours or so.
