1958 Tucker Sno Kitten Model 222 (Locke’s Ski Tow)

If it will make you feel better, had similar on an old truck. external dropping resistor for the coil was open, but the solenoid supplied 12 v to coil untill the starter stopped, then it died. Chased my tail for over a week.

Kitten back on the snow after 30 or so years.

Operates very well so far.

Reading through your detailed timeline I was just about to narrow it down to your ignition wiring!! I’ve been caught so many times by the old adage: When you’re so far in the hole, stop digging; I’ve found it’s best to get somebody there (if you can) and poke holes in your process! The best advice I’m usually given is not the advice I want to hear…. That’s why I love the Forums! Glad you got it!!!

Found a carb on eBay for some parts I was after and in hopes of confirming some things while chasing kitten tail on catnip. It came so here is info for the next one.

As GMoose said the choke setup has particular orientation. The unit is an assembly staked in place per the manual. Really no need to take it apart in hindsight.

This block in the middle with vent hole can rotate. GMoose has a diagram shows to it side ways my manual says pointing up. Mine and this originally pointed toward front. It runs both ways.

Got the original screws I was missing and the spring detent. Mine has some damage which allows the starter lever to rotate too far losing the spring.

These reference pics are all on the starter off detent position.

Now that you're driving it, if you need any clutch parts, master, slave cyl. disk, pressure plate, etc. I have them sitting here to cut down any down time.

Starting in on the wiring. Fixed the starter and battery cable orientation back to stock.

Ordering repop matching colored wire, non insulated terminals, and asphalt wire loom from Brillman Company. They still have a catalog and online lots of vintage 6/12v supplies.

Headlight ground broke but internals in nice shape otherwise.

1/8” cotter pins for reference.

Just got a fresh delivery from Vintage and Classic Car Parts across the pond. They are big fans of the Kitten have everything you need for the early and later Anglia powered ones.

Here’s a beautifully rebuilt carb from them. Not the orientation of the vent on the choke.

Think the ability to drain fuel if flooded makes sense plus keeps water out!

Kitten positioned in the service bay for finishing touches before public consumption this weekend.

UHMW spring replacement is a nice upgrade so far other than the cups are Tucker tolerance. 1.5” passenger under on the driver side.

Fresh lubriplate spa treatment.

Changed out the fuel sender, thermostat wire, ignition power, main feed, and roof beacon wiring and terminals. Pretty sure the roof beacon loom OE was duck tape. Couldn’t do it.

Added new asphalt coated wire loom where it existed and vintaged up the electronic ignition for now. Stock coil and distributor on deck next.

Gauges all functioning. Still need to finish the backlighting.

It appears this kitten may have had a key ignition looking at the wear marks and the hole underneath is large.

Windshield wiper seems to have had a key hanging on it. Maybe keys to the ski tow?

Would have had a key on right side of dash. And your Coil is upside down ;) Can't wait to see it in the Kitten section Saturday.

True maybe false maybe Gregg upgrade for coil cooling, leaking, and longevity……

First Sno camp since the early 80’s!

Met a guy the other day that grew up across from the ski tow and remembers the kitten going up and down with its roof beacon.

Also said a local from Amesbury painted the Locke’s Ski Tow and other touches. He matched the black then added the red accents to previous lettering. The red was added to the hood Tucker, around the Sno cat Corp, and if you look closely “” around Sno Kitten.

Great history lives on here on at the East Coast Preserve.
