What are you doing today, II

More of dad's taxi service today. I have to drive my daughter in to the city for a 1 hr appointment then drive her to school for 11am. Then drive 25 minutes back home for a couple hours then back to the city to pick her up at 2.

Just a quick side note. Lol. The truck is running great after I did the coils and plugs on Friday. For the past month or so, I was driving it like a granny nursing it along being careful to avoid hard accelerating as it would occasionally start missing. And I could feel a slight vibration I was thinking was something in the steering but turns out was one of the cylinders with a slight miss at higher speeds. So for $150, the truck runs like new. 👍

I wish I had your energy.

I sometimes get tired just reading your posts. Maybe that explains why my arms ache today.

Keep them coming, I need the exercise.

Your arm aches when you read my posts?🤔 er um. Lol. I'll just leave that one there. 🤣 🤣

I do have a "dad's taxi service" sign hanging in the rear window of the truck. Such is life with 5 teenagers living in the country. Thankfully we're down to only having to shuttle 3 of them around.

I have my 6-year-old granddaughter to shuttle twice a day. About a mile through the subdivision to school.
I remember walking farther than that when I first started school back in 1953.
Yes in 12" of snow and uphill both ways. :yum:

The thing is mom worried little about me being snatched.
Not true today.

Taking our youngest dog to the vet for anxiety meds. The thing is scared of it's own shadow and will show teeth out of nervousness. We're working with a dog trainer who recommended them.

That, and a side note. 😆 Our dishwasher is only 2 years old. One of the tines on the bottom rack already broke off. This left bare metal which of course rusted and eventually snapped that section of tines in half. I headed to the shop and came back with jb weld plastic bond meant for automotive body panels. I applied it and left it to dry. Rock solid yet flexible like plastic. There's your pro tip for the day. Remember. If the women don't find you handsome, at least they will find you handy. 🤣

Heading up to Melen's condo after I finish my coffee.

The door and drawer pulls arrived for the closet project, so I have my tools gathered up and will go install the door/drawer pulls today. A couple door hinges have to be adjusted because they have auto closure. That could take 5 minutes or 5 hours as there are 3 hinges on each door and all need to by adjusted so all 3 hinges on each door is set the same way.

Hopefully get out of the city before the afternoon rush hour starts, which puts me home before dinner time.

I am not going to Purdue's practice this evening. That was pre-arranged on Tuesday. I did leave them with a list of suggestions for a light workout. We have a tournament at Michigan State University on Saturday. Heavy workouts before a tournament are a bad idea, so this will be more flexibility, agility stuff.

Up at 4am, drove to Michigan State University for a fencing tournament.

Each of the 2 squads fences 9 bouts, against 8 schools. So between the men & women they fence 18 bouts against each of the various schools. Schools that attended included Michigan State, U of Michigan, Indiana University, Iowa State, U of Wisconsin, Xavier U, Case Western Reserve, Purdue, and 2 schools I don't remember.

My men's saber fencers defeated 8 schools, only lost 5-4 to Case Western Reserve.
My women's saber fencers defeated 8 schools, only loss was 6-3 against University of Michigan.

I was wrong!

Purdue Men's Squad lost to 2 schools, U of Wisconsin eeked by Purdue too. Purdue Women's squad only lost to 1 school.

Did wash all day every dish tonight filling buckets in the morning to flush toilet
Our house and water line was installed decades before the house in front of us was built there's a leak from the curb cock ane our house.
to make it worse the the old neighbor added on a garage over the line, new neighbor put a pool in over the line. :(
their deed or mine doesn't have a right of way. (I'll be reaching out to title co on that) :(:(:( and they don't want the yard torn up

Originally my contractor was going to pipe burst my old line pulling in new one but garage and pool and no right of way put a stop to that.

Tomorrow my contractor is coming in to directional drill and pull new pipe in, in the road right of way (which they can't complain about) out to the main line then dig along the main line in that right of way to the curb cock and dig from drill machine on my property to the house.

When you refer to directions drilling, are you referring to boring? If not you may want to check into that for an option, there is underground boring machines now that can bore and pull the pipe or electrical line in without tearing up the yard, it can bore under driveways, garages etc.

Waited for the dishwasher repairman to show up. He showed up, didn't have the part, ordered it and left.
Part was delivered less than an hour later (new motor).
Repairman called back, said he'd show up between 3-5pm this afternoon.

Drove to the barber (30 min) and got there just after we closed for lunch. Left without a haircut, got some diesel and returned home. Pretty much a total waste of time.

Updated my SPOT X satellite communicator with the newest firmware (hadn't done that in over a year) and also updated my "pre-defined" messages that are stored in the unit. Basically typed them into my account on the Spot website, connected the device by USB cable and hit "sync" so that was 5 minutes of my day.

Arthritis pain started to flare up, took 3 Advil and cooked some lunch. Sat and ate it. Still sitting. Hopefully the repairman will show up in an hour?

After he is done I'll be driving south to Purdue to coach fencing. Practice is 9pm to Midnight. Then a 80 minute drive home, but I cross a time zone and "gain" an hour on the return trip so I'll leave campus at midnight and be home roughly 12:15am.

They pushed and steered the pipe in with a power mole 30" at a time I thought they were bring a varmeter or ditch witch directional drill with 10 ft rods not 30" it tool 6 hours to push the 250ft @ 30 inches at a time under the neighbors property but in the road right of way to the main road they could steer the rod and had a tracker to see where the head was and how deep. they pulled the pipe in today. they have to trench from the pit to the house and to the curb shutoff tomorrow.

Seems we were on the same page.

Doctor this morning, all good there, I report back in 6 months

Went up to Chicago to walk around the dog park with Melen and the mutts. The lovely Mrs_Bob was up there overnight so I brought her home.

Killing a bit of time now before I go teach a beginning fencing class at our fencing club

Nothing thrilling today.
I was going to go to Toledo and shop at the Kroger mega market and have dinner at Red Lobster, but the weather has been rainy and crap.
I'm not about to drive on 24 and 110 with construction going on in the rain.

Sent my son Ty my usual/ daily hello! text, hope you have a nice day!
"Mom, I'm working"
Oh sorry.
"In Memphis, Tennessee".
What?? 😲🤣
He's taking a truck back.
Not sure if it's a semi, a regular truck or what.
I'm also not sure if he's got "Noah" the big heavy duty wrecker or the flatbed or his other one.
I told him to say hi to Elvis for me.
"Yeah Mom, I'll do that."
😊

A small load of rock so I can finish a retaining wall at the back of a garden. That and some potting soil to start some Cardinal flowers to attract Hummingbirds this summer.

Still working everyday, about this time next month I will get a little breather, then on to the next crisis that will go until July.

Recovering from the last three days producing sample packs of seasoning and recipes for a large steak company. It was intense. And then we had little Madison sick all week as well.

Friday, we begin the mechanical setup for the new glue less packaging of paper spoon. Never been done before.

I went to aquarobics today at the Y I've been going for a couple weeks it seems to help my back better than the physical therapy.
So were in the pool doing some water jumping jacks and one of the woman had a wardrobe malfunction o_O
There were 3 men and about 12 woman in the class, she was so embarrassed but fixed her suit and continued on with the class about an half hour or so as we were leaving class she said to us guys that I'd bet its the first time you all saw a set of 80 year old DD's the whole class busted out laughing.

I'm hitting the ground running today. I'll be on the road at 8am driving my daughter an hour east to spend the day with other girls at an organized girl guides event. Then turn around and drive back to the city for a scout event. We're been working on building wooden 18 wheelers to race against other scouts in the city today. Once that is done I can go home to rest for a few hours before we head out to an adult game night playing cards against humanity and other games.

I'm going to a gun show in Council Bluffs and them having lunch with some good friends there at the all-you-can-eat Golden Corral.

No plans other than to hang out with Kobe. He has a snotty nose (I think almost all 3 year olds have snotty noses) but he will be flying to Minnesota with the lovely Mrs_Bob on Monday to visit the Paw Patrol experience and the a few other sites. So we want to make sure his nose boogers are controlled, and he is improving rather than regressing before we put him on an airplane.

We have fresh snow and temps are 23(F) maybe bundle Kobe up and do some sledding down our hill? But mostly probably stay inside and play. Possibly go to the local library to read/play? I dunno.

FWIW, I've been sore. Switched to Enbrel for my Rheumatoid Arthritis and have had 2 injections so far. It's not yet working. It can take a several weeks. So lots of Advil and prescription pain meds every day. It's odd, but I can feel great for a few hours, but if I am standing too long I get miserable very quickly. Other times I can be going about my day, not doing too much but just staying active, and then the pain kicks in. Seems like it is usually later in the day too. At least that is the pattern. I'm pretty sure I get very crabby at times because of the pain.

Slow cold day today. I spent the morning with Crumpy and coffee. After she left for work, I tackled the roof. Right now, Iam adding drip cap edging to my 55 year old roof. We are laying new shingle over the old but, I do not want it to appear that is so. Therefore, I have to be careful to trim the old shingles away at the edge of the roof.

This seemed simple when I thought of it. But wow, what a challenge to make it look right.

We put 25 year shingles up, with a complete tear off, some 30 years ago. They still look in really good shape. I guess we did it right. But a new roof, tear off and re-papered, if done professionally, is $12K minimum. So I'm doing it.

On my granddaughters car misfire on cylinder #1 and open circuit on injector #1 under the intake manifold (what bone head designs these things)
pulled the manifold I'm changing all the plugs its 44 degrees my old hands are protesting this. (I think as you get older you tolerable temperature range gets narrower)
Then its on to the injector.
My back isn't happy either because of cold and leaning over.
So its one or 2 plugs come in and watch youtube while warming up and back out I'll be done tomorrow some time at this rate but we have a spare car for her to drive.

I'm dealing with the same issue on my truck. I just changed the coils and plugs last week. It was running great until I went to the city earlier. Cylinder 1 misfire. Luckily I had my cheap scanner in the back along with a full socket set under the seat. I popped the plastic engine cover off and wiggled each coil. Must have been a bad contact as it ran perfectly afterwards. Just for piece of mind though I will throw one of the old coils in the truck for a spare.

That's why I moved coil pack from #4 cylinder to #1 while putting plugs in and put new one in #4 i can get to it if there's a problem I can change it without pulling air intake. injector is different issue got that on I need to pressure test for leaks tomorrow and reinstall everything else.

Weather was nice today. Four hours on the roof.
I got two squares of shingles laid.
That included taking off the first row of old shingles and installing the new drip cap.

I have to work at the printing plant Monday. But, I should be able to come home in time to do three squares on the main front roof.
