Been getting my house ready for 3 guests early this morning and that is done. My 3 good friends DJ, Alex and Randy from Kentucky whom I served with while in the Marines with are coming hopefully tonight or tomorrow morning. They know my dad passed Thursday night from me and coming up for the funeral and staying until next week Thursday. I already know one thing we will be doing together, watching the movie Full Metal Jacket and this is our favorite scene finding out this happened in true life

Well its weather 2 Tom 0
9 degrees when I got up
I went to go to water aerobics at the Y my suburban wouldn't start I tried jumper box and it was dead my fault there
I tried our spare car that my grandson drives and its dead too.
I put charger on my suburban for a hour and it started up.
I put charger on grandsons car for an hour and it started.
Neither have been run since friday.
So my aerobics was getting cars running not as much fun as being in the warm pool at the Y.

I woke without a plan this morning. After the missus left for work and the kids all left for school in the bitter cold, I got to work framing old pictures of my wife's relatives to hang on the wall in our hallway. After running out of frames, I decided to head downstairs and start painting the recroom from a vomit orange combination to something more neutral. I've got 3 walls nearly done but had to stop as we're taking our oldest son for dinner for his birthday.

My 3 friends from Kentucky came and brought me something, A Jim Beam sign and enough Jim Beam whiskey for a year. Knew I was working and heard the door opening up which they came in. Have a 2006 Impala on my hoist I was working on putting the engine cradle back in after replacing the transmission for an used car dealer just to bolt it back in the car which I did. Decided that was it and we had a drink together. Staying at my place

Been a busy day and got that impala done. Had to get in the Snap On tool truck, found out the tool that was sent in for repair came in. Works good now, trigger was bad. Bought a repo off of him, a tool cart and found out the guy made 2 payments on it and quit making payments on it after that.I paid it off in full and giving my son my previous one,a 5 drawer US General I bought 3 years ago still in good shape. Had to go to the eye doctor as well, new glasses on order and the VA is paying for that

Working on removing wallpaper from the lower level pool room. For some reason, I did not put a vapor barrier on the concrete so over time the paper curled on that wall. I had tried to glue the seams but after 40 years, that failed. So, I have to remove the old glue as well.
The entire room is 32'X 16' with a fireplace at the opposite end. Only two walls are affected. About 30 linear feet.

This was very High-end paper, imported from England and has stood the test of time. Still looks great on the other walls.

A little creamy mud and some sanding, I can then paint the damaged walls. A lot of wood trim to remove and reset.

I spent the day downstairs painting. Finished up most everything except for a second coat on the wall surrounding the closet doors and the white on the ceiling. I was just using leftover paint from previous projects. Turned out pretty good. Since Christmas, I started at one end of the basement cleaning up the garage and worked my way to the recroom at the other end painting the hallway first then the recroom. I painted 2 of 4 bedrooms

grandsons car wouldn't start this morning its probably getting new battery friday when I leave the valley
It did start this afternoon when I went to pick him at the bus stop.

Right now I'm just sore.

Morning I was at the house waiting for the internet repair guy who showed up mid-afternoon for a guaranteed 'morning' appointment. So I made beef stroganoff for dinner while waiting.

After lunch I went to the fencing club and worked on a plastic tile floating floor, pulling up tiles and pounding in new tiles, they have an interlock system to snap them in place. Works great with a rubber mallet . . . which turned up missing. So I did a combination of hitting them with my palm and stomping on them with my foot.

Left the club at 4pm and drove up to Chicago to coach the U of Illinois Chicago (UIC) fencing club. We have some experienced fencers and some newbies. I used the club president as the crash test dummy and was beating on him, chasing him down the strip, all to demonstrate to the group a few different tactics. I am getting to old to do too much of that.

Got home and the lovely Mrs_Bob needed some stuff carried down to the crawl space.

So, right now, just being sore.

wife is off to Sams to pick up her order
I'll have to unload it when she gets back doing wash in between.

Came back from the lawyer's office on about my dad's living trust. My brothers and I happy with everything we got with no fighting at all. Getting a chunk of money, the property with the shop on it including 2 handguns, a shot gun and a rifle. The handguns, I do have to go to the sheriff's department to register in my name which I will do tomorrow. Luckily mom remembers where the 2 deeds for the properties are and I know the combination of the gun safe. The deed for the property, a friend of mine is going to help me out to put it in my name. She deals with property and estates

Slept 10 hours and woke up with lots of muscle aches and pains.

Saturday coaching all-day Lawrence University (+500 miles round trip)
Sunday play with Kobe, he turns 5 in a couple months and does not have an "off" switch
Monday I put away Christmas stuff at home and then did equipment repairs at my club
Tuesday coaching at Purdue University (162 miles round trip)
Wednesday floor replacement at my club followed by coaching at U.I.C. (90 miles round trip)

Thursday, 3 Advil and a cup of coffee. But it is early, probably more of both to come.

Been working and one of my great customers came to get the front brakes done and an oil change done in her car. This customer is 86 years old and gets around very well still has her mind. She has been a customer of mine for 13 years, never complains about the bill and pays me on the spot no questions asked. I convinced her 13 years ago to see me, another shop screwed her wanting to do work that was not needed. I fixed it and was a simple fix. that convinced her seeing I am honest and treated her right. She is also glad I did change my life around, had a son that was like me not lucky losing him to a drug overdose when he was 21 years old

After working my butt off (literally....it's gone) the past couple days painting, I checked with the boss(me) and took the morning off then went to the city for a few errands and an appointment. I'm beat. Didn't sleep well last night. Up every hour in pain. My right shoulder was throbbing.

You had me laughing until the end.

I feel your pain. Well I feel my pain. I understand your pain. I'm now at 6 advil and 1 tramadol for my day.

I did manage to get out to run some errands. Got a couple birthday cards, both the lovely Mrs_Bob and our daughter Melen have January birthdays and we plan to celebrate both on Saturday. Picked up dog treats at Tractor Supply. Went to the grocery store and checked that chore off the list.

While I did drop off a bunch of equipment at the fencing club, I'm taking the day off of actual coaching and equipment repairs.

The snow plows had managed to place a pile of icy snow about 4'deep X 4' wide by 15' long in front of my driveway and the mail box.
I cut a path to the box so the mail person could deliver.

After a week of freeze/thaw weather, it remains in the way. So, today I went at it with a spade shovel and a pickaxe.
The stuff was mostly ice. About two hours hard work.
Tomorrow, she can just drive right up to it.
I'm exhausted.

Been there with my back from 18 years of wrenching. Found out pinched nerve in my lower back 3 years ago seeing a chiropractor that did help. They wanted to do surgery on me at first back then and now back going to see my doctor tomorrow on this. May have me see the chiropractor again and refer me to a specialist this time.

Severe stomach pain last night finally gave in and went to the ER. They did tests and found I have issues with my gallbladder. They transferred me to the hospital today they did an endoscopy killed some stones that were in the vile duct and put a stent in my vile duct. Tomorrow they remove the gallbladder no fun at all, but it sure needed done. The pain I was in was the worst pain I’ve ever felt in my life.

I hear you about the back pain. I had a serious motorcycle accident 10 yrs ago. Broke several vertebrae. I still go to physio every few weeks.

Stay with your Chiropractor. I broke my back in a skiing accident when I was 15. Luckily, my Godfather was a Chiropractor. I lived in a brace or a girdle for two years. But with his help I made a full recovery. Back is still broken but I function normally, mostly. I have seen Chiropractors regularly ever since.

During my teens, I was actually able to participate in varsity sprots. Mostly swimming and track. When my draft notice came I volunteered for the Marines. If I was going to Nam, I wanted to be with the best. Sadly, I was a Marine for one day. Didn't make the grade because of my medical records showing a broken back.
Three years later I joined the Fire Service. Never told them about my back.

Back to Chiropractics. Some are quacks. Stay with one that takes a lot of time with you, at least 30 personal minutes per therapy session, and does regular x-rays. A good Bone jocky Doc will also be very concerned about your diet. More so than a medical doctor who only makes real money when you get sick. Bad eating habits line his pockets.

I see a medical doctor once a year for a complete physical. Until recently, a Chiropractor jumps my bones once a month.

My medical Doctor complains, in 30 years, he hasn't made a dime off me. At 78 my only chronic illness is from seared lungs. That was a bad day on the job.

Sort of off subject...
Many moons ago when I was in California, I decided to get out of Dodge. So my last day there, they threw a going away party. The factory Controller decided to come to the party after having her gall bladder removed a few days before. She brought a going away present for me to remember her by. It was a giant jar with gall bladder in it. (It was fake, but funny as hell.)

Trying to stay with the chiropractor avoiding surgery and I went to a good one the first time. Found out they left a year I seen them. I still remember it, was pulling on a wrench working on a customer's car and felt some tingling including sharp aching pain from my lower back at age 43. I was lucky get in to see my doctor that day calling in

Working today,4 jobs today and shutting down early around 2:00 seeing the doctor having a 3:00 PM appointment and then come home and taking a shower changing clothes due to dad's visitation at 6:00 PM before his funeral which is tomorrow. They want my brothers, mom and I there at 5:00. Have my clothes picked out already to wear for that. The funeral, have those picked out too

I hope you feel better today, Doc.
I'm sure you and others recall my adventure with the pancreatitis, then had to recover from that, then had my gallbladder yanked, then another stent.
With the pancreatitis I was on the verge of sepsis.
Stupid me, I had no idea how sick I was.
Feel better, Sir.
We love you.
