RaidTrac 718

Put gas in the tank and drove it around some, first thing when I turned on the switch and the electric fuel pump started the fuel pressure regulator started leaking badly. After a trip to town I got that fixed then drove around some and broke a plastic bushing that holds the vertical part of the handlebars in place, I will make somthing from tougher material like aluminum, I guess I got too agressive with the steering. We don’t need that to happen on the off grid.
Also put the windshield on along with the hood. After the steering bushing is fixed I will drive it a bunch then check it all over, still have some improvements to make, so stay tuned for the next episode.

There was a plastic bracket that holds the vertical pipe on the bottom bottom of the handle bar steering, when I drove it around the other day it broke, I made a new one from U.H.M.W. And backed it with 1/4” aluminum. After that modification and some adjustments, the steering is much more responsive.

I put the bumpers on, I will likely leave the rear one, as it has a trailer hitch receiver and a couple of d rings. The front one will be remade to match the rear. Also like the light bar I found the 4 year old new winch, I plan to make a mounting plate with a male receiver tube so it can go on the front or rear. The ammo can tool boxes are also on. Cleaned it up some from all the work on it. Bought a new Optima battery and still need to make battery tray and hold down. Also thinking about a light bed for the rear. And lastly just ordered a carburetor rebuild kit because sometimes it runs good and other times gas comes out of it when it’s first started, likely the needle and seat or the float sticking, when it does that it also backfires when throttle is added. The more I run it the better it gets, but a rebuild will just fix it. Ordered some Naugahyde to recover the seats today.

Got the winch wired in on a plate with a receiver tube
Made and attached a battery tray to the floor grate then secured the battery with a bungie cord

I just ordered 2 sets of 12v quick disconnect plugs so I can easily use the winch on both the front ( after I make a new front bumper) and the rear.

Every time I look at this ad, I like my RaidTrac even more. The carburetor kit showed up today so I’ll get that done soon. Just about time to take it somewhere for a serious test like the mountain

Carb was t too bad, had some dirt in the bowl along with some rust.
Only used one little seal out of the kit
The bowl O ring gasket was slightly large and couldn’t be used, i made one from some sheet cork that I had.
Cleaned it real good with carb cleaner. Put it back on and it runs much better, with the occasional backfire now eliminated.
