The first computer to appear on a cover of Time magazine was the Harvard Mark III Calculator in the January 23 issue, 1950. The cover by Boris Artzybasheff depicted the computer as a Naval officer in a "bizarrely anthropomorphic" style. The cover story of the magazine was entitled "The Thinking Machine."
