I'm torn -
invest in a quality AR type + 5000 rounds , , , or not.
the way things are pointing , investing now could be a really good thing.

we have multiple 22 thru 9mm handguns for home/on the go defense, but a full on 'we're coming for you' assault those are likely quite inadequate.

the problem of course is, , , if one waits for BLM to assault rural areas, you won't find either a semi-auto long gun available, or ammo for it.

whatever you decide on buy the ammo asap, its already been short but Lakecity announced they will no longer sell to the public and another corporation that own CCI and many others has sold to a foreign entity and no-one knows what is in the future. Are you in a neighborhood or on an acreage? Neighborhood = AR or AK. In the wide open spaces I would go with something that can reach a little further like a AR10 in 308, HK91 even a M1 Garand, I have one with open sights and generally if you can sight on it you can hit it. The AR10 or the HK91 with a good scope are 600-800 yard shooters with quick followup.
