1953 Tucker Sno Cat 443 Mt Washington WMTW Channel 8 Restoration

Bolt on clevis mount idea scrapped. There is barely enough room to fit 9/16 bolt without hitting the frame tube weld. 1 1/2” to work with.

Also the forces applied to the bracket isn’t ideal for the center bolt setup.

Probably why it was welded so new tabs will be fabricated out of this 1/2” plate and welded on.

Think this improved design keeps with the spirit of the original design.

Upgraded from 11 ga OEM to 3/16” on the cross tube and gusset. 1/2” plate upgrade from the questionable cast broken bracket.

I considered welding the tabs right to the tube but felt with the angles and forces at play the plate would spread the load better after welding all the way around.

Bronze clevis pin will get drilled for a roll pin. It was oversized so we created a shoulder on the large which acts as a stop or bolt head. The pin can only go in from one side and this eliminates a roll pin.

Patched more holes along the frame.

Added some more bracing. As long as I hold the engine mount dimensions, should be well within Tucker tolerance. Few more pieces to add.

Looks like the frame cut will be right behind the angled front down tubes. I front is a trunion mount bolt hole then we can use that to locate the other two bolts in the improved frame.

Take two. Same 3/16 wall upgraded tube and gussets.

1/2” clevis mount replaces the cast.

Correct location this time also.

Right nice lookin sparkin Mr. TA I wood take the grinder to the ears on the clevis bracket sos there's a 180 radius on the outside. Then no one will know it's not factory cast.

Found this on the vintage Tucker site in their pics.

That's what I'm talkin about. A little flap wheelin and you got factory cast radiuses everywhere. Ain't that cool.:thumb:

Kinda fun to see how close you can come to the factory castings.

Final bracing in place. Made up the 4 new down tubes that will be installed when grafted time the new lower frame.

Finally found a use for composition notebook and old fashioned handwriting with my forums forums pen. Took lots of measurements notes and started carving.

Frame badly broken and decayed.

I believe this strap on the tube was a repair addition.

Looking for the experts to confirm this was a tube to tube connection OEM with no strap.

This area is where I made the tie in. Figured cosmetically it will blend easiest and give the most weld area.

The trunion bridges the connection as well. The holes in the new tube frame will get bushed like OEM. The hydraulic pump frame hole will get bushed as well.

Cut the last remnants of junkyard life from the frame.
