Yesterday I pulled out the Bobcat tractor to mow the valley and field. Neither has been mowed for 2 years.
The valley area to the north of the house is mowed, but looks pretty rough. It is about 1.5 acres with lots of trees to mow around, a creek with willows along the bank. The whole area needs another pass with the finish mower, but at least it is knocked down and the wild rose bushes, that had a couple years to establish, have been cut up and can be managed with the finish mower.
Moved to the back field, which is easier to mow but larger and got about 1/2 of that done. The field abuts the farm field, it was farmed up until Covid when I reclaimed it as "yard" and is mostly flat, treeless and mostly grass. It does get soggy due to drainage off the hill and the reclaimed field area is approx 2.5 acres. Threw the belt on the mower deck when I hit a raised pile of dirt that jammed the blade. At that point I gave up, mostly because I was pressed for time and knew I had to leave in about an hour. So tractor was put back in the shop. I made a late lunch and then departed for the fencing club.
Today there will be no more mowing due to the rain, but I'll probably get out to the shop to work on the mower deck; take the covers off and see if the belt is trash, or if it just jumped off the pulleys. I have at least 1 spare belt, so if I trashed it, I'll replace it. If it just jumped off, I'll put it back on and increase the tension setting a bit. It was a BRAND NEW belt that I previously installed but had not yet used. Possibly installed without enough tension?
I've got fencing at the club this afternoon and then at Purdue tonight.
Pretty sure the lovely Mrs_Bob is heading up to Chicago today to spend the day & night with Melen up there. Some girl bonding time and also Melen will be hosting our Easter dinner so there are preparations to be done.
Also, yesterday, at Purdue University, in front of the building where we hold fencing practice, Charlie Kirk held a TURNING POINT USA event for conservative students on campus.
