What are you doing today, II

Planted some sand, planted some mulch, getting ready to replace some dry-rotted trailer tires (but the trailer is full of mulch so I guess I need to plant that first).
Pretty warm here. Not used to it and it's slowing me down.

Well grandson's car is done it drives like the drivers drunk with it misaligned, I was 1/2 tempted to get a beer at the bar or 2 or 3 and see if the car drive any better :D
It go's for alignment on Wednesday

How long before the sand bears fruit?

Light snow falling. Temperatures are around the freezing point. Had a rough night with a sore back so not much planned for today. I just drove my son to work and daughter to the horse barn where she likes to go on the weekends and work with the 35 horses on hand. On the way back I stopped at a field where there were roughly 8-9 deer bedding down. I counted 2 fawns so they're dropping now.

The guy I bought it from said it takes years (so I'm thinking apple trees).
I just looked it up. It's going to take millennia and all I might get is sandstone. Oh well, I'm not going to dig it back up.

Happy Easter.

Not so much for me today 😕 . After barely sleeping the night before due to back pain and a head cold kicking in full force yesterday, I actually slept last night but up at 5am to drive my son to work for 6am. The back felt better when I first got up but felt a pop in the lower back and lost strength in my legs and feeling in my feet. Up until then I was planning on going to the Easter service with my wife and in-laws. Instead I stayed home to drive my youngest son to work for 10am. This afternoon I will have to drive back to pick up my second oldest from work at 2pm then my youngest at 6pm. We're having a big dinner with other family coming as well. Perfect time for a head cold.

Watched a little of Breaking Bad series this morning.
Some light outdoor puttering including knocking robin's nests off my building's motion detector lights. Yep, cracked 4 eggs.
I nice ham with all the fixings meal with the family around 1PM.
Came back outside around 3PM to get the tow-behind chemical sprayer ready, working and loaded with water. Herbicide coming tomorrow, will spray on Tuesday.

Happy Easter Monday. I was up at 5am to drive my second oldest son to work at the airport in the city. I will be driving him to work every morning for the following month as he was a victim of his own laziness and received a temporary 30 day license suspension for his accident this winter. We have graduated licenses up here. He didn't have his full license yet as he hadn't gotten off his butt and booked a driver's road test for his full license. So, the way the licenses work up here is if you don't have a full license and receive a fine, it's an automatic 30 day suspension. He rear ended someone. Received a fine for "following too close" which is a minor charge up here but as he only had a g2 license which allows him to drive alone with restrictions, he lost his license. It's either he lose his job because he can't get to work or we drive him while it's suspended. It is what it is. 🤷

The inlaws are still here until tomorrow as it's my daughter's 18th birthday today. Only 1 teen left in the house. But 5 living at home. I feel slightly better than yesterday but still sick with a head cold. My wife is also coming down with it. Fun times.

I worked last Saturday night into Sunday morning and swore I was done.
The thing is, one of our back units is now the lock-down behavioral unit.
Honestly, I don't think anyone knows what they are doing with this in management.
I'm talking hard core cases.
Easter Sunday afternoon, I texted my director and told her to never, ever place me back there again.
She said I put you there because I know you can handle it.
Think again Sandra. I can't.
Today I was informed that I'll no longer be in that spot.
I'll be in the geriatric wing.
Yay!
And I've decided to work more hours than I had been.

I'm sore. Too sore.

Generally did a bit of work around the house. Not much stenuous. Picked up Kobe's Toys, put things away, loaded the water softener with salt.

Went to fencing and worked for 3 hours with the Purdue Northwest extension campus intramural director and students, in the afternoon at my club. Then I coached at my club for another hour.

My entire upper body is in pain. 2 "short" glasses of Jack Daniels Old #7 seemed to have no effect on the pain. At this point I'm thinking SLEEP may be the best option. A 3rd glass would likely affect my mood/head tomorrow. So sleep is probably the best option and the pains might go away with rest. I hope!

I hear you. Up every hour last night but at least I slept. Head cold sucking the life out of me. I'm supposed to go back to my friend's place to paint the ceiling in the dining room. We'll see how my back feels. I may just install my butt in a recliner and call it a day before it starts.

Asleep last night about 10pm. Up at 5:30am this morning. Body pain is greatly reduced, but my right shoulder is pretty sore. Arthritis doctor thinks it might be a combination of a torn rotator cuff + arthritis? In any case, 3 advil started the morning.

Now I'm having coffee and watching the news.

Not much on the agenda for the day. Morning meeting with a lawyer to formalized the sale of the condo I purchased for Melen a couple years ago from me to her. Should have probably already done all this, but better now than never. Need to formalize a couple points. Also Purdue's late practice on main campus is tonight. This is the last practice I will coach before this weekend's MFC Championships, which are a 2 day event, and which will be held at Purdue.

We've had some rain, but I don't think the ground is too wet, hopefully I can get out and finish mowing the rest of the west field and do a second pass with the mower over the valley north of the house.

Drove my son to work at 530am.

Now that I'm semi awake, I have somewhat of a game plan. The in-laws just left. My wife is also sick with a cold. I just made the decision that I won't be painting today but do have to go out this morning to pick up cold meds for both me and the missus. I will stop in there and get some measurements for a shelf over the sink that I'm going to build. I also plan on building a couple of display shelves for our bedroom at the same time. Then go back in to the city this afternoon to get an oil change done on the grand am before picking up my son from work at 2pm.

Just arrived home from the Purdue main campus.

Gave a saber lesson to one of my senior girls. She is one of the 1st fencers I worked with when I started with the Purdue fencing team 4 years ago. She needed some help with defensive actions. She had taken a couple lessons from my friend Charlie, who is a high level skills coach, in fact probably the best coach who is NOT at NCAA level coaching and probably better than several of the NCAA coaches. I was a bit apprehensive about working with her on the same thing that he worked with her on 2 weeks ago. But when we were done, she said I really helped her a lot. So that made me feel good.

Then she told me about the "highlight of her college fencing", at a USA Fencing "Regional" event held at Northwestern University, she was about to face one of her teammates who typically beats her and this was in the "elimination round" of the event. I didn't remember that I coached her at the event because I try to help everyone. But she told me I took her off to a corner and worked on 2 different attacks, made her repeat those 2 attacks over and over for 10 or 15 minutes. She told me she used those 2 attacks with great success and won the bout and advanced in the tournament.

Glad to know that what I do actually helps the kids. I know they appreciate what I do, but to get that type of feedback is really a nice feeling.

Another sleepless night due to back pain 😞 combined with a head cold. I had a physio this morning scheduled but called to reschedule for next week as I can barely stand and my head is pounding from sinus congestion.

Currently laying in bed waiting for the pain meds to kick in!

Went out and ran a bunch of errands this morning. Last stop was Home Depot for weed & feed, and then got some bags of sand and pea gravel. Tore? Strained? Did something to my right shoulder. Damn that hurts.

I'm supposed to be teaching a fencing class in less than 2 hours. This is going to be fun.

Our son was coming in from Hippie Ridge (Springfield MO) with his girlfriend, her mother, another child, & two dogs. 80 miles away, at 2:30 AM the serpentine belt on his BWM failed.

We had to go get them and got home at 4:30 AM. He took his girlfriend's mom onto southern Illinois arriving home this morning about 10:30. That is one tired man. So am I.

We still have to go and retrieve the POS X-5 BMW which the shop said they can fix maybe today. This vehicle has been unreliable & costly. I hate BMW's. They seem to break down easily, repairs are frequent and costly. I told him he would do better with a Chevy or a Ford. Parts are cheaper and most shops can fix 'em.

My son is unemployed (an injured vet whose government checks aren't coming.) and so the burden of repairs falls on us. When he wins the lottery, he can indulge in a status symbol. Right now, I need my money to keep my '95 Dodge one ton rolling.

We sold our pos x5. Pain in the ass. The belt is an easy job. Probably had an idler pulley failing or the tensioner bearing failing, which took it the belt.
X5 drove great. But a pain the ass to fix. Every job other than the brakes was a workout.

I felt better this morning and went over to paint the ceiling at my friend's house. It's done. So am I. What was a simple cold turned into the flu as my stomach began turning and cold sweats. I just finished cleaning up my paint supplies when I threw up in the kitchen sink unexpectedly. So now I'm at home on the toilet with a bucket. This sucks. Head spinning. Stomach doing backflips

Up at 4:30am to take a tramadol (pain pill) then back to bed.

Got up at 8, put on a shoulder brace to protect my shoulder??? Got out the electric/battery hedge trimmer and, after running through two fully charged batteries, trimming. But all the tall clumps of dried ornamental grasses, bamboo, etc have been cut down to the ground so they start up again anew.

Picked up a bunch of deadfall and some freshly trimmed branches that will go out to the burn pile.

Ate a couple spicy red-hot hot dogs for lunch.

Getting ready to go to fencing. The shoulder brace is off and my shoulder is in pain. I don't know if the shoulder brace helped or if the pain meds wore off. The bace is soaked with sweat, so I really don't want to put it back on, especially now that I'm cleaned up from doing yard work. Back to back classes today. But I'm only coaching one of them, and I that will mostly be footwork so shouldn't cause too much of a problem for my should pain.
