Report Your Snow Depth

Zero snow down here in South Texas!!! Dont really want any. Seems to me that snow is just rain that stacks up and wont run off!!!!
So, not to be belligerent or condescending, but why would a guy from south Texas bother with a snowcat forum such as this? Unless you're a transplant to a snowless area and dream of the white stuff :-)

Spent the advent of the New Year at my cabin. Early yet in the season, about 30" of white stuff on the ground. Absolutely hate it...heh heh. Stoked up the wood stove, grabbed a good book..a bottle of whisky...and my good dog and I proceeded to enjoy the evening but only after some Imp time for plowing and checking out our 81 year old permanent resident a mile up the road.

We all love snowcatting, but pause for a second to think how life would be all alone off-grid, stranded for most of the winter in the middle of nowhere. It's how he chooses to live. I'm driven to check on him, and why not? If you can afford this snowcat hobby, then you can afford to give to others in need.

81 years old and snowed in all winter, must be a hardy old guy.

I think he's been a year-round resident for 8-10 years. Past heart problems (claims to have had 4 heart attacks), legs and circulation starting to fail, yet he stays with the program. This is where he wants to live and eventually die, more power to him. He's got me by 10 years...not sure if I could stand the isolation. Gonna check on him at the end of this month. We keep in periodic cell phone contact.

Original build had a welded axle, I broke that;) Just rebuilt the ass end with new axle of appropriate length not requiring welds. Nice to have some snow at the house to test a bit before committing to the mountains. Our local mountains are getting hammered with a great seasonal snowpack so I’m anxious to get after it, but nervous with a DIY rig.

Nice when you can play with your toys in your yard and not drag them to the mountains.
For sure. My plan was to leave mine at the cabin permanently but will probably drag it back home this summer for access to my shop for a couple fixes/mods, such as a carb rebuild or slapping on a Weber carb, and maybe installing a muffler on the exhaust stack.
