prayres

:sad: This is horrible!!!! What do you mean in a 'bad way'? How bad is he???? PG can you tell us more of what might be happening??? 2nd degree burns on 20% of your body sounds realllllllllllly bad. Is he smothered in cream or are they going to transplant some skin? Poor guy. :(
Well, I'd hope he's in the hospital right now or has been!
2nd degree holds a pretty big risk for infection.
Antibiotics, fluid replacement.. he's going to need some serious care.

again, thnaks.

getting better, looks like skin gratfs will not be needed.

dad just got back from a fihsing trip out west and hes oeming down along with my wifes parents, so who will be donw d=for a weel.

typing losueym, but all this t.v and drugs may lead me to kill melsef:D

Judging by your typing you got some pretty goods there :thumb: It's a good thing that help's on the way. I know your wife is happy about that too. Take the BEST care of yourself and heal fast!

thanks for the update DZ....rest up and get back full time in your own time....dont rush things.:thumb:

Glad to hear youre doing better DZ! We were gonna send ya something to cheer you up but we didnt have your location. Plus, she wouldnt get into the shipping crate.

Thanks for letting us hear from ya. Wish there was more we could do, but sounds like all those prayers are working, so we'll keep 'em coming. Heal fast, OK?

Guys - thanks for asking, got home last night. My wife types over 100 wpm and it dawned on me since she can hold my penis to pee in a cup, I didn't think it would be too much asking her to type.

Stupidity - gas fire/brush - done many times and finally got burnt. No pun intended.

Second degree burns on my right ankle up to my knee, and fingers to elbow on my right hand. Been blessed because it could have been much worse than it is. One of the most painful body injuries that I've ever encountered. I sincerely consider myself blessed/lucky. Although I'm in pain, nothing compared to some of the people who have been affective with burn injuries.

Stayed at Wake Forest Baptist Hospital - teaching hospital for the school and largest employer in the county - first time there. Very interesting. Emergency room service was outstanding; however, once I got to the burn unit later that day hospital was severly understaffed (not affecting the care but even noticable to a person who doesn't spend time in a hospital). Interesting conversation with the nurse on the day I left that the hospital -she admitted they were severly understaffed , but they are not able to find enough people to fill positions. What is ironic is that the same hospital is battling another hospital to open up yet another hospital in the same county, yet they can't fill all the open posisitions they now have at their other hospital.

So far everything well - Father is down from PA and in-laws are in from VT - and my wife happens to be the greatest woman on earth:D

Glad your home and doing OK. Sounds like your surrounded by a bunch of loving people. Take care dude!

Did she pick the green smilie guy or you? Either way sounds like you're feeling better and still definitely in good spirits! :thumb: Take care!

Hey DZ! Glad to hear you are doing so well....considering:rolleyes:
Tell your wife thanks for typing for you to keep us up to date. :thumb: I bet she is grateful for the help while helping you....
We have two hospitals in one county also. They are very understaffed. The biggest hospital was bringing nurses, physical therapy, occupational therapy, nutritionist, respiratory therapist, doctors....just about anything that took 4 years or more of college for a degree in the US, from other countries with sign on bonuses, and who knows what else was promised:confused2: Most all of them were from the Philippines. I hate to admit it but that was the most compassionate caring people. When I was with momma in the hospital for several weeks it got to the point I dread the shift change of nurses if the the next was going to be an American. (sorry but true) In the winter when we are flooded with senior citizens from the north you can hang it up trying to get fast care. The hospitals (both) are over flowing. There isn't a bed to be found for miles around in a hospital. Including one of the largest in central Florida (Orlando). I spent the night in a wheelchair in the hall way waiting for a bed.

Thats a relief!!! Damn glad to know youre well enough to go back home and rest and recover. Thank youre wife for typing too. I hope you can eat anything you want. Good food makes a strong person! Plus its just really enjoyable. If you dont have eating restrictions, go for food that will buil up your immune system.

At least you didn't burn your winkie. :poke:

Good to hear you are home and recovering well, DZ. Like others have said, don't rush your recovery and try to go back to work too soon. Get well first........

good to hear you're home and doing well - and that it wasn't worse!
You're right that nothing hurts more than a second degree burn - and in a week or so it's going to itch like mad, while it heals.
Hopefully you're not allergic to sulfa drugs so they could prescribe thermazine/sulfadine cream to help the new skin grow.
You might also want to get some "after sun" lotion for after the docs release you, the aloe & tea tree oil stuff they sell at Wal-Mart is pretty good for limiting scarring and keeping the new skin supple so it doesn't crack while you finish healing up.

good luck and congrats on having such a wonderful wife!

Real glad your home. Keep us informed. Yea, I wanted to say something about yer wife holdin' things, but guess I better not, or she might stop typing fer ya. :hide:
I sounds like ya got a real good woman there, and that's a plus in the healing process.

DZ, as for Sushi's "eat anything you want," DON'T DO IT!! You'll put on about 50 pounds in the next couple months till ya can get out & start workin' it off. An I can tell ya, it's harder to get it off, than to put it on.:hide:

Heal soon, my friend.

Did she pick the green smilie guy or you? Either way sounds like you're feeling better and still definitely in good spirits! :thumb: Take care!

The day after the accident I had a black nurses assistant giving me a spounge bath.

I looked at her as she was wiping me down (completely naked) and told her "you know, if the other day if someone had told me that I'd be standing completely naked in front of a black woman talking about Barac Obama, I'd say you'd be nutz, or it was one really weird dream :D

For myself, humor is a great "self defense mechanism" in personal trying times.

In laws will be staying down another two weeks as well as my father, so it will be a nice "get together time". I did joke with eveyone that this was not planned because the last time we all spent time together for an extended period of time was my back operation of last year.

Just got to figure out the paperwork trail for the company if I want to go on short term disability or how long I will be out.

Moving a little quicker on the feet, but still slow.

By the way, I've come to the conlcusion that lifes to short for the debate and discussion area here, so I know some of you are going to miss me there:beatdeadhorse5::D:chicken::ninja:

humor is good.
family is good.
keeping a sense of humor while family is visiting for 3 weeks is 1 point towards sainthood!

and good luck with the paperwork - i don't know if your company has a "shared leave" program for those on FMLA, but for your sake i hope so!

Hey DZ........Glad to hear you're recovering. I was just thinking of using some old boat gas to kill some brush at my shop.......seems you've convinced me to rethink the idea. Hope you get thru the next several weeks without complications.

Take care & heal quick !

Good to hear you are doing well Joe! I guess that's all I can say at this juncture since we are in the Seriously Speaking section...:shifty: I will say that humor is my best defense as well.

The following is what I'm using for my leg and arm...

http://www.silverlon.com/burnproto.html

Been with the same company for the last 15 years. They do treat me well.

Things going a little quicker. Don't really need the cane for walking much more, and I can get up to walking pretty qucik where it use to take me at least 5-10 minutes to get up and adjust for the pain due to the rush of blood down the leg.
hand is work still a work in progress, slower there.

OK, that silverlon stuff is just plain cool!
my experience in the past was silvadene - which was a silver/sulfa mix in a creme that you then covered with gauze to protect the surfaces.

good luck with the hand.

One reason why I knew the hospital was understaffed. First couple of days the staff did use the silvadene, but then the doctor requested the silverlon glove for the hand and material for my wrist and legs. Lot of "floater" RN's in the ward had no clue as to the care and procedure of the silverlon material, which honestly, freaked me out a little when I asked them about it.

Good to hear how well your progress is going DZ. :thumb:
Glad to hear you have plenty of family support around you too.
Keep us posted as you can.
Best wishes.
