Did You Know ...

Wolf.jpg

🐺
The wolf never eats corpses, neither of animals nor of people; it spends its entire life with one partner, it does not mate with its mother or sister; it is a monogamous animal, it does not cheat. If a partner dies, the wolf remains alone; it knows its young well: it is the only animal that helps its parents after a deep old age and brings them food.

✨
When you kill a wolf, it looks you in the eyes until its soul leaves it; it is 25% smarter than the dog and it is the only animal that does not obey training, they say. Wolves think, dream, make plans, communicate with each other intelligently and are more like us than any other living being

The world's largest dam that affects the Earth's rotation
🏟️
THREE GORGES DAM
🏟️

Do you believe that China's Three Gorges Dam has increased the length of the day by about 0.06 microseconds
🌊

Yes, it's true.
🌊

💧
This is the world's largest dam, belonging to the Three Gorges Hydropower Plant, built on the Yangtze River in Hubei Province, China, the world's third longest river.
The world's largest hydroelectric power plant in terms of total capacity, its maximum capacity is 22,500 megawatts.
💧
This dam, which is located 175 meters above sea level and 91 meters above the Yangtze River, is about 2,335 meters long and 115 meters wide, spanning an area of 1,045 square kilometers. .
The reservoir contains 39.3 cubic kilometers of water, which is said to weigh more than 39 trillion kilograms (42 billion tons).
💧
The addition or subtraction of such a large amount of mass affects the Earth's rotation due to a phenomenon called the 'Moment of Inertia'.
Thus, raising 39 trillion kilograms of water 175 meters above sea level would increase the Earth's moment of inertia, thereby slowing its rotation. However, the effect would be extremely small.
💧
As NASA scientists have calculated, such a mass shift would increase the length of the day by only 0.06 microseconds, and the Earth would become slightly rounder in the middle and flatter at the top. It would also change the position of the poles by about two centimeters.

Greenland is farther east, west, north, and south than Iceland.

Greenland holds the fascinating distinction of stretching farther east, west, north, and south than its neighboring island, Iceland, making it a unique geographical marvel. This extraordinary fact is rooted in the sheer size of Greenland, which is the largest island in the world, spanning over 2.16 million square kilometers, compared to Iceland's relatively modest 103,000 square kilometers.

Greenland's westernmost point, Cape Alexander, reaches farther west than Iceland's Snæfellsnes Peninsula. To the east, Greenland’s Cape Nordostrundingen extends well beyond Iceland's easternmost point near Gerpir. In the north, Greenland's Kaffeklubben Island holds the title of the northernmost point of land on Earth, far surpassing Iceland’s northern limits at Rifstangi. Similarly, in the south, Greenland’s Cape Farewell extends farther into the North Atlantic than Iceland’s southernmost point at Kötlutangi.

This remarkable range is due not only to Greenland's vast size but also to its position straddling the Arctic. Its territory stretches across both the Atlantic and Arctic Oceans, giving it a greater reach in all directions. In contrast, Iceland, while geologically unique and located at the boundary of the Eurasian and North American tectonic plates, is much smaller and more compact in its extent.

Greenland's vast dimensions emphasize the stark difference between the two islands in terms of scale and geographic influence. This comparison highlights the incredible diversity of the North Atlantic region, showcasing how two neighboring islands can differ so dramatically in size, shape, and global positioning.

Knowledge is Power!
What is the biological phenomenon responsible for the gradual loss of muscle mass, strength, and function as we age? This is known as Sarcopenia!
Sarcopenia refers to the progressive loss of skeletal muscle mass and strength due to aging. The impact of this condition can be severe, depending on the individual.
How to prevent Sarcopenia?
Stay Active: If you can stand, don’t sit—if you can sit, don’t lie down! Movement is key to preventing muscle loss.
Encourage Movement in the Elderly: When an elderly person is sick or hospitalized, avoid encouraging them to rest or remain in bed. Help them walk, unless they are too weak to do so. Lying in bed for just a week can cause a 5% loss in muscle mass, and seniors often cannot fully recover this loss.
Sarcopenia is more concerning than osteoporosis: With osteoporosis, the primary risk is falling, but sarcopenia not only affects quality of life but also contributes to high blood sugar due to reduced muscle mass.
Idle muscles lead to faster muscle loss: Muscles in the legs deteriorate quickly when not used. Sitting or lying down limits leg movement, weakening muscles. Activities like walking, running, and cycling are excellent ways to build and maintain muscle mass.
Aging Starts from the Feet Up! Keep your legs active and strong as you age. If you don’t move your legs for just two weeks, you’ll lose the strength of a decade! Regular exercises like walking and cycling are vital for maintaining muscle strength.
The feet support the entire body’s weight, making them critical for mobility. So, walk every day to maintain strength and mobility.

Music on hold was created by Alfred Levy, an inventor, factory owner, and entrepreneur. In 1962, Levy encountered an issue with the phone lines at his factory: a loose wire was touching a metal girder of the building. This created a situation where the building acted as a giant receiver, allowing audio signals from a nearby radio station to be transmitted through the loose wire. As a result, callers would hear music while they were put on hold.

I had many Crystal radios when I was younger.
One was shaped like the mercury capsule the tuner pulled out of the nose cone to change frequencies.

I believe someone of uber authority, decided we could combine President Lincoln and Georger Washington to make one day and call it Presidents Day. Thus, celebrating neither as it included all Presidents thus diluting the honor bestowed upon either man. It opened up a day for Martin Luther King.

King was a great man; I respected and loved him. Worked in his movements participating in events throughout the south for two summers. He effected a change in our nation that was positive and long-lasting heading our society to a peace between the races and nationalities as never seen before.
He even had the nobility and class to refer to his people as "Negroes." Not people of color or blacks, which purposely did not necessarily refer to the children of slavery. For that, and his sacrifices, he should be honoured.

However, not at the level of either Lincoln or Washington.

Note of personal annoyance;
We have one whole month for black people. And one whole month for gay folks. But just two days a year for those who put everything on the line for their country. Who the hell makes these choices of for us?

Crystal radios work on the power generated by the radiation of the radio signal. It powered circuits yes. But also the speaker, a mechanical device. Energy distributed without wires.

Think about that for a minute.

Radiation of signals now fill the air, our bodies, our home, every living and innate thing on the planet. They are ubiquitous!

Yet no one seems worried.

The two islands—Big Diomede (Tomorrow Island, Russia) and Little Diomede (Yesterday Island, USA)—are only about three miles (4.8 km) apart but lie on opposite sides of the International Date Line. Because of this, there is a 21-hour time difference between them, meaning they are almost a full day apart!

You can see one island from the other, and in winter, when the sea freezes, you could even walk across the ice—from today to yesterday or vice versa! Standing on one island, you are literally looking at yesterday or tomorrow, just a few miles away.

The Great Pyramid of Cheops contains an enigma that no historian or archaeologist likes to talk about. All archaeologists agree that the structure of the pyramid is composed of some 2,400,000 rock blocks weighing between 2 and 70 tons. Each of these rock blocks was positioned with absolute precision, as the pyramid has a margin of error of only 1 centimeter at the base, and only 1 degree of alignment to the north. A similar result can only be achieved today with laser-guided construction systems.
...
But it is not the precision with which the Great Pyramid was built that is impressive. Nor do we want to go into how the blocks were transported. Instead, the 'hundred-gun question' is another: how long did it take them? Why is this 'the question of all questions' to be asked?
...
Assuming that Egyptian workers managed to cut, transport and place 1 block a day, it would have taken exactly (2,400,000 : 365) years to build the Great Pyramid, i.e. 6,575 years to finish it. This means that the pyramid, given for completion in about 2,500 B.C., would have been started in at least 9,000 B.C. But according to archaeologists, the Great Pyramid was built in only 10 years around 2,500 B.C. What does this statement imply?
...
To be built in about 10 years, as official archaeology teaches, calculating that work was only done in daylight and thus 10 hours a day, each block of the pyramid must have been cut, transported and placed at the rate of minus 1 every minute, i.e. one every 60 seconds or so. (1 block x 60 minutes x 10 hours x 365 days x 10 years) = 2,190,000. Can you imagine a group of workers with tools as soft as copper, who do not even know the wheel in that time, cutting blocks from 2 to 70 tons, transporting them on logs via ramps and placing 1 every minute without interruption, every day, every week, every month, every year, for 10 years?
...
The Great Pyramid was certainly built by people who lived in the place where it was found. But it is quite evident that the time it was built, and perhaps also the people who built it, are probably not what many people think.

Doc, thanks for The Great Pyramid information. Yep, there are a lot of unanswered questions on them being built. I agree with the quote below.

"........people who built it, are probably not what many people think."
Extraterrestrial beings? I think so.

Want to understand our place in the universe?

It takes our Sun 250 million years to orbit the Milky Way.

Ultimately, the Milky Way is about 100,000 light-years across and 1,000 light-years thick. Our solar system is located about 26,000 light-years away from the center of the galaxy.

If that's not impressive enough, our star is just 1 of the 200 billion stars in the Milky Way. As such, scientists estimate that there could be as many as 3.2 trillion planets in our galaxy.

And keep in mind, these are just the numbers for our own tiny galaxy. According to NASA, there are about 2 trillion galaxies in the observable universe.
