COOT ATV

Sometimes its better to ponder things for a while, I took the seat back off and mounted it to a piece of aluminum plate.
Now it drops in and is easily removed for access to the transmission, I got 4" more leg room and can actually stretch my legs and makes it much easier to get in and out, just sit on the fender and pivot in or slide in from the back, the grab handle I never use needs to go making it even better to get in and out. The key switch and seat make it much more user friendly.

Got one more issue to work through, no matter how slow the engine idol, it grinds when you change gears.
I hear them grind on youtube too. Can't be good for the gears. I have been just shutting it off to change gears, its electric start and its really not that bad as you don't change gears much unless you get stuck or something similar. I ordered a universal throttle cable kit from eBay to get the throttle hooked up to the OEM controls, it comes with 3 cables and a bunch of cable ends. I could use one to rig up a lever or pedal with rubber on it to stop the transmission from turning in neutral, just not sure its worth the effort over shutting it off.

Still need to make a guard for the brake rotor and the drive chain. The drive chain reminded me today by grabbing my pant leg.

improvements for today include
drive chain guard
brake rotor guard
and removed the un used grab handle
Thats about all I am going to do to it for a while until the throttle cables show up, then I will hook the throttle to the OEM throttle controls that give you both a foot throttle and a hand throttle for when you have to get out and help.
I plan to use it all next summer at the work cabin, I will evaluate it and make changes to improve its performance if needed.
After that its a camo paint job and a new roll bar and lots of playing with it.
I can't remember exactly what I paid for it, I'm remembering around $2500.00 and another $1000.00 or so for the new clutch, engine and other materials. Where you going to get a toy that has its capabilities and fun factor for $3500.00 and a little work.

While I was on the work cabin trip the throttle cables showed up, so today I hooked up the OE hand/foot throttle.
Was very easy, the foot and hand throttle are on the bottom picture. The unit gets more user friendly with every modification. When the bike brake shows up, I can add that to stop the transmission from turning while changing gears then its just use it for a while before paint and a new roll bar.

It took some effort, but while in the shop working on the raidtrac parts, I had an idea of about where it was and after moving a few things I found the rear seat. Now I can scare the hell out of whoever is brave enough to get in with me. I have been playing with it and its a completely different rig than when it had the hydrostatic drive ( slow and weak, even with a 20 hp Kohler ) now when you hit the gas it goes over whatever gets in the way, I haven't found a need to put it in first gear yet around the property, I imagine when it goes to the mountain, first gear will get used.

Today the bike brake assembly showed up, I will have to fabricate an articulating arm using the brake pad from the assembly, I had hoped to just mount the whole brake assembly on the large pulley but it doesn't open enough for the pulley when its in its open position at full throttle and to close to the firewall to grab the rim on the fixed side of the pulley.
The brake lever will be mounted to the shift lever so you can just squeeze and shift. Should work good.

And it actually works, I have done about everything I need to do for it to do its thing without hurting itself. Next year or so, I plan to disassemble it, do a camo paint job with a new rectangular tube roll bar, also add LED lights and a winch with a receiver on both front and rear, also thinking about adding a 1 wire alternator and an automotive size battery for all the accessories. For now its done and will go to the mountain in the spring.
