Cleaning up the mess I made reworking the Furnace Room.
& Cooking Corned Beef & Cabage in St. Patrick's honor.

It's a day early but, Sunday is a good day to be with and share with the wife ALL DAY!
Crumpy goes to work Monday. I don't 'cause I am her boy toy.

Sitting in the cabin having coffee with the fire going. Nice day, would be great for skidooing if the snow wasn’t so hard from melting and freezing several times. Cleaned the cabin up a little bit yesterday, still lots of work to do but it was getting pretty messy. It’s only 3/4 of a mile from home but for some reason it’s so much more relaxing having coffee here and doing nothing than it is doing the same thing at home

Totally understand, winter at the work cabin is harder and colder, but somehow more enjoyable.

Slept like crap again last night. Wide awake at 4:30 am. But, I still headed down to the garage to rebuild my daughter's bed frame. It originally had a flimsy center support that wouldn't support anything much. Now it's redneck certified

Finally feeling 3/4 of my old self still have a cough and sleeping like 10 hours a night (6-7 is my norml) the light is at the end of the tunnel.

I need another surgery so met with the anesthesiologist this morning then off for some lab tests.

Got a income tax return letter letting me know of penalties I have to pay (for the last 2 years). I'll pay them tomorrow.

Found a barely used Porter Cable drill/flashlight combo in the basement from who knows how long ago. Trying to slowly bring the batteries back to life.

Daughter's car to the shop for inspection. Our Lexus threw a warning light last week but disappeared so mechanic said no issues. Avalon needs to go in for a new timing belt soon (OOPS, 50,000 miles overdue).

Having a beer (or 3) for St. Patrick's day.

Forgot to mention this highlight from yesterday. A fire situation.

Friend called me over in the late afternoon to hang out/chat while he burned pallets. All good until I pointed out that a tree about 80' away is smoking. About a minute later, we see flames inside the tree. (The tree is rotted on the inside and 1/4 of the outside. An ember got in there).

He tried to reach the tree with his tractor loader. It's on a steep hill and just out of reach to knock it over. The tree was already flagged as a "widow maker" so no chainsaw action to get it down quickly. Last resort is the garden hose.

Within minutes, about 20' vertical feet of the middle of the tree is burning. Chunks are falling out of the tree onto the leaf covered hill and starting to burn that as well.

Really glad he has really good hose pressure at his house and was able to reach vertically about 35' in the air with his hose nozzle. He did get the fire out before it spread. That's really good as we're in a generally wooded area and I have 10+ acres of woods that are only 250' away from this burning tree.

I only burn when its raining for that reason, out here if a fire starts on your property and spreads to someone else’s, you can be criminally charged and if someone is killed it’s manslaughter.

Springtime burning is a bit tricky. Grass, brush, scrap lumber.
I have been going thru cartons of "stuff' from the storage units we cleared last month. We also have tons of cardboard boxes to burn.
However, the wind has been up in the 20's and 30's the last few days so I'll not burn them for a while.

So meanwhile, they blow about the back yard.

I cut down some of the 6' ornamental grasses around the place. They're a fire burning nightmare since they burn so fast.

I am ripping out and burning sagebrush, when it dry it explodes like a 3 month old Christmas tree when it’s burned. I can relate to what your talking about.

I spent a few hours messing around with the 3 snowmobiles this morning. My wife's machine is an older carburated 600 that's always been a pain to start when it's been sitting. I managed to get it to fire then it died and flooded so I turned my attention to the older arctic cat panther that's been sitting covered for 3 years. I managed to get it to fire on the fire pull but quickly realized that both the choke and throttle cables were rusted. Ok. Turn my attention to my sled. I had it out a couple weeks ago so knew it was good but had to change a cracked windshield. Despite the melting snow, I'm heading out with my scouts troop this weekend for a 2 night camp at our log cabin. The kids walk across the ice 3k but myself and another of the leaders bring our snowmobiles to haul gear to the cabin.

My friend David who had open heart surgery on the 14th ,was released from the hospital in Toledo yesterday.
He's now on the rehab wing at our facility.
I'll be his nurse on Sunday night

Went to camp today took the snowblower up and brought the riding mower and push mower down, studded out another part wall insulated it and tacked the drywall up and taught my grandson how to use a drywall screw gun I could have done it in 1/2 the time but he has to learn.

Well yesterday my first fire call in a month because of the flu and it was a big one 50+ acres forest dire
dispatched 1600 returned to station 2300
I was down at the crick with the rest of the geratics setting up a water supply system we used about 3000 gallons of water.
filling the side by sides to take water to the crews.

Home alone with 3 dogs now.

Going to my fencing club for lessons for a couple hours.

Then driving south to Purdue for practice on campus.

Should be back home about 12:30am. Plan to kickback a bourbon or two when I arrive home. Then bed.

A month or so ago, when we unloaded two storage garages, we simply brought it all home and stored it all over the house, garage and back porch. there was no time to sort things. Everything got mixed up and has been lying about the house for weeks.
I have been attempting daily to sort, clean, and store this junk, in an organized manner.
Living room was finally cleared. Granddaughter's small bedroom was cleared.
Pool table and pool room was cleared along with the furnace room.
Today, I tackle the back porch which had everything else left.
Paint supplies, concrete tools, electrical boxes and stuff.
Sorted it all, and found a home for all of it.
Boy, am I tired, but it looks great.

And now, tonight, we can sit on the back porch with coffees and watch the moon over a big fire.

Last night I was being amused by my son Ty, in pursuit of a coyote on their property.
He was sending me live video from his phone.
It was pacing, running in circles and whining.
When it tried to approach him, I started screaming and told him that damn thing is RABID!
He finally got out the 22 and shot it to put it out of it's misery.
Then drug it out beyond the pond, near the woods and burned it.

If it weren't for my sons, I swear I'd have no adventures at all.

Trying to wake up.

Got home about 12:30am.

Sat in bed on the computer with the TV on and a cocktail next to me (Boulevardier ... bourbon, Compari & vermouth). Pretty sure I fell asleep sitting up. About 3:15 I turned off the lights and laid my head on the pillow.

Up at 8:40am, so at least I slept late.

Got the bedsheets in the washing machine and made a meatloaf, which is now in the oven. The lovely Mrs_Bob is in Chicago for 2 days visiting our daughter Melen so I'm "free" all day today to get stuff done. The Toyota needs to go in for an oil change. I need to build an 8' long by 2' wide rolling shelf unit for the fencing club but not sure I'll get to that today. I have some vacuuming that I want to get done, but with the dogs shedding I may hold off until tomorrow morning because the She Who Must Be Obeyed will be back home tomorrow before lunch, so getting the vacuuming done "just in time" will look better than letting the dogs shed on it after doing the work.

Maybe I should brush the dogs too

Couple of appointments this morning. Now getting an oil change done on the new to us car. Transmission fluid as well. All fresh lube. I'll know what I have then.
