Worst day yet!

muleman

Gone But Not Forgotten
Crap it is hot and muggy already. Was weeding in the garden and when I came inside it was 86 before 11 am! I turned the sprinklers on and said to hell with it. Looking forward to Monday and a big cooldown.

It's pretty hot here, too, but it dosn't feel too bad right now. The heat index is reportedly at mid 90s or so, but it doesn't feel like it in the parking lot. Humidity must be low.

It is going to 109F today here in St louis,

My thermometer on the wall at work said 86F a 7:00 AM this morning.
It now hovers at 106F.

But it is not the heat, it is the humidity right?:yum:

You got it Frank! I have got it down to 78 inside and it is 88 outside. The biggest difference is the moisture level. I have so many gallons of distilled water that I quit saving it for a while. Days like this it fills a gallon jug pretty quick.

Same heat here. Big party tomorrow and it's going to be even hotter.

I turned the sprinklers on and said to hell with it.
Why are you watering this time of day? You'll lose most of it in evaporation. I need to water but will wait until the sun goes down enough so the garden and fruit trees are in the shade.

In this heat, the evaporation is what you want. 110F won't hurt the plants but,, a dry hot heat off o hardscapes will cook them sure.

Despite running misters in some of my back yard gardens, I have scalded four Alberta Spruce trees and two young Blue spruces. All had drip irrigation feeding their roots. But,the mist nozzles were down wind and too far away.

Even the Sago, which is a desert palm, suffered from thehigh heat low humidity.

I am watering so the weeds pull out instead of breaking off. And the plants need some as well. Normally the watering would be done by 8 am but I wanted to weed the tomatoes this morning. We water a lot in the evening when we can.

96°F
Feels Like: 97° << that kills me..
Yeah, yeah.. it effing HOT okay!!
I just took Gretchen for a quick stroll up the block, and came back bathed in ummm a perspiratory glow.. meaning sweat, but since ladies don't sweat.. well..:yum:

Been hot up here too with temps hovering around the 30 degree mark in the shade for the past couple weeks. Long range forecast is calling for more of the same through to the end of the month with the odd day of rain here and there to make things muggy. If it keeps up, won't be long before we're in a fireban and watching out for forest fires.

Ihave a lady freind in Dallas that calls the condition,,,"shimmery"

She looks good anytime but shimmery,,,,,,,, is awesome.

It is 106F intheshade here now. I am shimmery but trust me,,,,I do not look awesome.

More like roadkill.

i get to pound the pavement for miles & miles a day in 104 weather @ times. chase busses or cabs, while in a hanes shirt & a Chef's coat, scratchy Chef's pants, w/ a 16.5 lb. knife bag & a jansport stuffed so full that a few ppl have either jaw-dropped or said some semblance of, 'this thing weighs more than u!' or 'oh, my, God! how can u lift all this stuff~'
i shrug, wink, & say that that's just the way it goes.

by the end of this, i'm generally:

I believe the correct terminology is you "glistened".

Well it is too shiny out there for me. We ran over to my BIL's place and it was 96 when we got home. Hiding in the a/c the rest of the day.:hammer:

Good day to hide somewhere cool. Good map!:clap:
Were on our 15th day in a row of over a 100 degree temps but its been perty windy untill today so it didnt feel all that bad untill today but we havent had a drop of moisture since the 16th of last month.

Barely a breeze now and plum friggen miserable out, I just went out to move the hoses i have running on the new trees and I'm wetter then they are. :hammer:

Bad timing for the corn and soybean crops. Corn is in the critical pollination period. We are out of water, and none is on the weather maps. The corn crop is failing day by day, and the soybeans aren't far behind. If we don't see wide spread rains soon there will be a serious shortage of grains for food and feed, much less fuel. This is a wide spread calamity, throughout the upper midwest and beyond. This may get more serious than we know.......:sad::sad:

Kirk,

I heard 60% shortfalls in MO Iowa and much of IL. on corn. Soybeans not so much.

Rain should come thru next week but it is sketchy.

My dog doesn't even wanna go outside. Cripes. Hang in there Muley, won't be long and you'll be cryin about the snow! :yankchain:

At least you can dress to keep warm. Was going to get in the pool and the deck is so hot it felt like walking on a griddle. Maybe a late night skinny dip!:clap:

Not a picture I wanted in my mind there Muley.

But thanks.

Sent everyone home tonite. No second shift.
AC just cannot keep up.

Without rain next week we could be seeing a total crop of 30% OR LESS in the heart of the corn belt. No one is talking about what happens if.....

franc we all are going to see some history unfold this year. I have a gut feeling and it isn't good. Took a dozer down to 7' deep and the yellow clay is powder day here from the black surface soil on down for 7'. I have never seen the yellow clay this dry in my life time. That was three weeks ago. We simply do not have the 10" of in the sub soil water we relie on for Jully and August. This could get biblical before it's over.

Sounds like you have the same gut feeling I do, Kirk.

:letitsnow::letitsnow::letitsnow:It's been pretty nasty here today . Not as bad as some of you are experiencing ,but still miserable enough. Right now it's cooled down to 87 ,but still humid as heck . The dogs aren't the least bit interest in staying out any longer than it takes to do their business. Looks like tomorrow will bit a bit warmer .

We are back below 90 now. Still miserable out there.
100 friggen degrees here still and its 730 pm
, but other then that its just great outside.

Just got back in from repairing several water hoses that burst today that run all over the property to our new trees, and if there IS a good side to this is there aint a friggen bug, fly or skeeter left around here. I did run into a couple of wasps that were particularly aggresive, but i had the scatter gun handy so they are no longer a problem. :w00t2:

I just weeded a bucketful and it is still miserable hot. watered two of the flowerbeds as they are looking wilted today.

It got up to 102 today/humidity measured over 50%.
I went out to take a break at 7 and felt like I was going to melt right there, walking across the parking lot to the car.
It's still 86F out there.
Tomorrow is going to be worse.
Hurray!!! :/

Normally in the middle of the corn belt a day like today would have gotten to 80% humidty or more, as the crops would be pumping it up out of the ground to grow. But the last several days we are loosing the battle as the humidity has fallen all week and is below 50%...cause we are fast running out of water....and time.

It's going to get really intersting. You heard it first right here.....

Regards, Kirk
