Unreasonable or Tough Love

Bear in mind, in her current quarters she has a walk in closet that is 7' x 14' and her bedroom suit has its own fireplace, a 50" HDTV w/premium package, WiFi, built in cherry bookcases and private patio. I know a lot of folks who would love to have that as their living quarters. She will get modest but livable quarters and will have to learn to live on a real budget because she will have real bills and a real need to eat and provide heat for herself.

With the financial beatings I've taken this year, can I load my family of 7 up in my coach and just move in her old quarters? I'm sure you also have top rated school systems. I guess parking my 37k lb coach in your yard is out of the question? I can bring my excavator, track loader, tractor and some other cool yard fixin' toys as well. :flowers:

The school system is not too good actually. According to state ratings its very good, but in real terms if that was true my daughter would not be in private school.

I think the motorcoach will fit in the yard no problem, you could put it next to my S-I-L's mid 80's Cutlass station wagon and bring the toys, we can carve up the land. You have what I generally rent so it will save me money on equipment rentals.

By the way, I gave some thought about your DUPLEX idea 1/2 way between where you live and where I live. That would put the duplex in Greencastle. Not even I can wish that much ill will on the city of Greencastle and we both have plenty of reason to take a dump on that burg :brows:

You checked out Lowes; I might have sent her to the scratch/dent store.

I have bought appliances from the Sears scratch/dent store. Big discount. for a ding or scratch on the side of a fridge, waswher, and dryer over the years. Once the appliances were in place, you could not see the dings.

Not being cheap, just looking for something to fit theneeds. Halped my 97 year old Gma out last year getting a fridge. She got a really nice one from the Sear scratch/dent store in Sacramento. Little scratch on the front. She hung some greatgrandkid art over it. It is a side by side with ice maker, 50% off!

For Grandma, the couple of scratches in the fridge were secondary anyway. Although my brother and I did remodel at her house for access, she still plays bumper cars with her wheel chair. Fridge has more scratches now.

Reminds me, I have to finnish birthday arrangements; she'll be 98 in two weeks. Still works every Saturday at the local Farmers markets.

How's about the rest of the story? How many teeth did the soi disant boyfriend lose, how many broken bones, is he actually still breathing; that sort of thing. (I have a knee-jerk reaction to cretins who mistake women for punching bags. These are lower life-forms, not humans, and deserve to be treated as such.)

yes i also have issues with that stuff he ain't got to many left and she was missing a few to mostly because of the amount of soda pop consumed out in the villages. we got there before things got stupit both were liquored up and 1 sober guy was holding him back while we preformed a forced cell extraction on her another femle a bit older was passed out after interveiwing the young lady at our house i went back to do a welfare check on the one passed out well she had a puls because she had moved up on the bed and was butt naked pancake hooters and all so i left before i caught something i couldn't get rid of told the young lady her honey was in the can didn't want to tell her what appeared to be going on.

Bob-- IMO in this situation you have been more than generous enough. She is old enough and educated enough to make it on her own and should do so within the next 90 days. Maybe a line in the sand (snow?) like this would communicate the serious nature of your intentions.

However, first, this must go through the lovely Mrs. Melensdad. It is her sister, right?

Yes, its her sister.

My wife and I went out this morning to the drugstore. Had a chance to talk. She found some appliances for even lower prices. Some light fixtures for $1.00 each . . . after rebates. Looks like we are on the same page. She also seems firm about rent collection.

Bob I scanned the thread too and for the light in the frig a $2.00 flash light on the counter and a box of matches for the stove.

On the serious side you are doing her a favor getting on her feet. Prop her up let her fall a little and let her get herself back up. Explain to her that some day you might not be here to help her and she has to survive on her own.

I got a 27 year old daughter with her 2 kids living in our hotel but we haven't figured how to cut the apron strings yet with out hurting the grand kids.

I guess I am more of a skeptic... but you are going far beyond the expected for your Sister in Law. But by the sounds of it, you are going down a dark tunnel.

Since she is moving into your apartment, her "want" to get a better job or whatever isn't going to be very worried about eviction should she can't pay the rent. You will be fighting with your wife and her. You won't win without bloodletting.

IF you want to help her, set her up in another apartment where someone else is the landlord and when she gets evicted from there, it isn't your fault.

Expect a long term guest without getting paid for it... IMHO

Family is great, but they don't have much respect when they get "Free"....
