Truly Tasteless Memes II

I do understand the sentiment implicated here. However, just because someone is panhandling doesn't mean for certain they are homeless and poor of a making not their own. Often, it is a choice they made.

Personally, I try to be more generous than I can afford to be. I have invited them to my work place and offered a job. Not once was I taken up on that offer.

Why? Because they made more money sitting on their ass at a street corner.

There are times I see this scene and know it is a scam.

When you observe the same corner occupied by the same person, or persons, watch who picks them up at the end of the day.
A BMW S5 would be a dead giveaway it is a scam.

When I was framing houses as a summer job in high school, the contractor I worked for paid me $7.50/hour cash (this was great money for a teenage kid in the early ‘80s). On more than one occasion after he picked me up for work, he’d stop at an intersection and tell one of the guys sitting holding a sign to hop in the truck - he told them he had a days work for them, and that they’d be moving lumber and doing cleanup on the site. He told them he’d pay them $40 cash (again, a decent sum in the early ‘80s) + lunch for the days work (he even had a pair of gloves for them).

Not once did anyone take him up on his offer…

I've had similar experiences with the street corner folks.

But I've also seen street corner entertainiers who beat on garbage cans, plastic buckets, dance, etc and they often put on a good show and I have no problem rewarding them for their work if I am able.

I would also point out that the gal who did not give him anything might be on hard times and needs the money / change to buy food for her kids / family. She could have a very good reason not to give and indeed what she has is not 'spare' change.
