Whatever happened to Bush's notorious talent for bring both Democrats and Republicans together while he was governor of Texas? I thought that was one of his strengths, which he enjoyed. What happened????@#$?@$???

I figured he really understood in that being an effective LEADER you have to move both sides of the aisle.

I'm pretty sure that he made a lot of enemies on the Democrat's side of the aisle down in Texas when he was there.

Did anyone happen to watch "From Jesus to Christ" on PBS this past week?
Not being overally religious it was interesting for me to learn a little more about the history of Christ and the formation of Christianity. .. how and why blood was spilled.. and what it has become today and the power it has brought certain people. The slaughter of women and childern over difference in religous beliefs and peoples need to impose their beliefs onto others. Maybe my brain is just wired differently but I am truel sicked by this type of behaviour and at a loss to understand why it continues today.

Ok, why the heck am I bring this up??

It just seem very interesting to me how we as humans seem to have this inherent need to take sides and form groups.

We have competitions between towns' pee wee baseball teams which break out into fist fights. We have college, football teams, which battle other colleges. People actually get nasty with each other because of school colors and Tractor colors. We have States battling other States.. The Blue and Red states. We have Republicans battling Democrats. We got Countries battling other Countries.. Next stop Earth against the Aliens.

Its seems that so many people here have experience the Kioti maniancs which feel that they need to push their beliefs onto everyone else and the everyone else is a moron... and we all seem to call them a bunch of idiots for doing so.

... well... what are we doing?

Go kiss your kids, take the dog for a walk, or go have sex with the wife.

All this political crap will just lead to pointless bloodshed. When our childern's childern read the history books about what is happening today, they will think we are all a bunch of self serving idiots.

Bob, I appreciate the link to the information about Scotland, and I read it carefully. There is some disagreement about the claim, from the president of the Association of Chief Police Officers in Scotland (who ought to know), but let's agree to set that aside as somewhat self-serving.

It appears that a significant cause of the violence level is due to some hoodlums in one section of Scotland called the Booze and Blades, who apparently get drunk and go at each other with knives. The head of a police violence reduction section stated that restrictions on the sale of alcohol and knives would go a long way towards reducing the violence.

Based on that information, it appears that it's a darned good thing that there are strict gun laws in Scotland, or the violence levels would be even higher. when you consider the damage these drunks do to each other with knives, can you imagine the carnage if they had access to guns?!?!!?

"It just seem very interesting to me how we as humans seem to have this inherent need to take sides and form groups."

It is how the best ideas for the benefit of the most in any given free society take shape and become paramount!!

The alternative is called a Dictatorship!!

Democracy is much like making sausage, neither neat nor attractive but over time (not instantly) usually produces an acceptable result for the majority!!!

The "benefit" is debatable. I won't call a mob a "benefit" unless you enjoy violence.

I don't follow your progression of logic.. can you have a Dictatorship without the formation of a group?

Absolutely, have you ever heard of Adolf Hitler/Castro/Kim Jung Ill/Pol POT/ Etc.Etc>

These folks tend to come to power while folks are following your recommendations I.E. "Go kiss your kids, take the dog for a walk, or go have sex with the wife." In other words non involvement by the members of any group beget the right to self govern there by acquiesce all to whom ever takes control!!

I have enjoyed our banter and hope to continue this tommorow if both you and God are willing!!

Dean,

except all these "Dictators" that you mention would be powerless if they did not rally people around them to form a group to make themselves feel powerful. So back to my point. You can't have a Dictator without the formation of a group. The dictator would be master of no-one except himself and would stand a good chance of being knock on their ass by the first "sleepy long haired dude in sandals" that they messed with.

This is much more entertaining then TV. Talk to you later.

btw.. I can tell that I made it quickly to the top of your "list". :argue:

what would you do if I actually said something you couldn't find something to poke at? Or is that not likely?

Not so fast!!

Do you think Lemmings leep to their death because they are a support group INFLUENCED by a carasimatic leader giving rally speaches?? Not likely!

The ""sleepy long haired dude in sandals"" Will not rise up and knock anyone on their butt in all probability except in a play of your making!!

"what would you do if I actually said something you couldn't find something to poke at? Or is that not likely?"

I can't tell you till you actually say something!!

I honestly don't think its social or political in nature although many fall under the guise of this. It's imbedded in us.

I believe it's an instinct going back to pre-humanoids. It's also seen in nature everywhere. There is security (and many other benefits) in groups.

Groups will tend to fight each other to establish dominance. Another instinct and/or aspect of nature as the strongest will survive.

The group(s) fighting may also change sides and unite if there is a common foe. To go to an extreme, if we're attacked by aliens, I would venture to guess most of our town, state or political or inter-country debates/feuds/fights would disappear as they unite against a foe that is detrimental to all the previously rivaling "groups".
