Sick Lab

lilnixon

AKA LILVIXEN
Our lab Harley has been vomiting anything he takes in, which isn't a lot, and his eyes have turned yellow. Does anyone have any ideas of what could be wrong with our sweet ole man? We are taking him to the vet tomorrow.

Feel around his neck....... Does he have any lumps?

BD , Thanks for Your efforts ! I just hope it's something that will pass .
Harley' while He might be an absolute failure as a true hunting dog , is the finest dog I've owned . It breaks My heart to see Him suffering .

Believe me I know what your going through.......

I had a lab pup survive Parvo, didn't eat for 11 days at 6 weeks.

I also lost a 6 year old professionally trained lab to lymphoma, had to be the one of the worst times of my life......

God bless Harley, I will need to know and kept up to date on what's happening to him.

I LOVE LABS ......................

What symptoms does he have, and how long? Have you seen him make a bowel movement? How does his vomit look, mucous, bloody, just the food he ate? How has he acted, sluggish, energetic, normal, etc...?

He's been showing the symptoms for 2 -3 days . He has made a few bowel movements . they appeared to be very dark in color ,and thicker than diarhea (sp ) . When He Vomits , it is Yellow in color . He even does it although He hasn't eaten since this all began . All He will do is take in water.
He's acted very sluggish . At times He Even seems to act confused .

The yellow vomit is his stomach is empty. The yellow eyes can be Jaundice casue by what is ailing him. The sluggish and confused is what I am concerned about the most.

Does he have any discharge in the ears, nose or eyes? Has he had problems peeing. He had not had blood in his urine, or poo?

So far it sounds like it can be pancreas, but it can also be problems with liver and gall bladder. Take up all food and water until you can get him to the vet. Be at the vet when they open.

Signs of problems with liver, pancreas, and liver:

Loss of appetite
Weight loss
Listlessness/lethargy
Poor coat condition
Vomiting
Diarrhea/soft stools
Gray stools
Swollen abdomen
Fluid retention
Increased thirst
Jaundiced (yellow) mucous membranes
Weakness
Confusion
Convulsions or delirium in advanced disease.

Sorry about the post above .. dropped the mouse ,and couldn't delete the post . He has no discharge from the eyes, nose ,or ears . No blood in His urine , or stools .

What you are describing are classic symptoms of poisoning. The black stool, vomiting, and yellow look all indicate to me he is in renal failure. It is imperative to get him medical attention on an emergency basis. His kidneys are shutting down.

We just got back from the vet. Harley has liver disease. The vet said it could be caused by poison, cancer or an infection. He had an elevated white blood cell count, so she is leaning toward the infection. Harley is being treated with fluids and antibiotics at the vets. She said he was in pretty bad shape. We will know more tomorrow when they do more blood tests. Please keep him in your thoughts and prayers.

First of all, thankyou to all of You for Your kind thoughts ,and help for Harley .
But, He passed away alittle over an hour ago . The empty spot He's left in mine ,and Jan's life is just impossible to explain . He will be creamated ,and I'll bury Him by His favorite spot on our property. Again , Thank You all so much .
All the best , John

Our thoughts are with you over the the loss of a great friend. I know it is tough but after a while you will find another one, it will not replace Harley but it will bring some relief and after a period of time they will become a best friend also.

We went through the loss of our Golden a little over a year ago and Morgan has a lot of the same traits as Sydney did, it is still not quite the same as she had a few that are quite different.

The one thing that most of them have in common is the unconditional love of their master.

Sorry to hear of your loss. There will never be another Harley, but give the one a chance, and he will worm his way into your heart the same way that Harley did..... one day at a time. I keep saying that there will be no more, but just a few weeks ago, I adopted another. We are now back up to three dogs.

John and Jan,
I'm so sorry to hear of your loss.
My best to both of you, you are in my thoughts and prayers.
Doc

sorry to hear of your loss Nixon...but i'm sure you have plenty of fond memories of Harley to always remember your best friend by!

Your recent loss kinda makes me think of our lab Jess we lost to lymphoma....
