Well, I have another memory to share. This happened during WW2. There were 2 nights per week that were blackout nights. No lights were allowed inside or outside. We lived in apartments in Houston. Every one would bring a chair outside and have good times talking to neighbors. We lived in the landing direction for Ellington Field. There would be quite a few B17 flying overhead. When they would cut power to land at Ellington, they never added carb heat to the engines so there was a lot of back firing and flames showing on the engines. Us younguns would panic and hide in trees or anywhere out of sight. Us younguns just knew that the enemy had shot them and they were going down. Different times back then.
