No doubt Eddy was lazy. It's just that that damn pipe made him look extra lazy. Also, it seemed like everything done to the pipe was done in slow motion...like he didn't have a care in the world. Sadly, he was my poster child of pipe smokers, thus my future prohibition. I only know one other pipe smoker, and he's a vertically challenged Poli-Sci prof with a Napoleon complex. He also has an obnoxious laugh to match his bad attitude. I've not had good experiences with pipe smokers.JEV, sounds to me like he was just frigging lazy. Nothing to do with the pipe. Work pulling steel or driving s dozer. Drivinmg st 70 mph or harrowing a field. Takes about the same time to pack and light a pipe as it does a cigar. Only need to clean one once a day and I do that on my time.
I thought you pipe guys would appreciate this gem I brought back from Turkey in 1972. I actually watched the guy make it from a solid block of meerschaum. It took him a couple of hours, and he was carving like a maniac. This pipe resides in a drawer in my Kennedy machinist' tool box. I never smoked it a lot, as it was a pain in the ass to pack, light, smoke, and generally fiddle-fuck with it all the time. You never get things done when you smoke a pipe.
