old leavenworth snowcat pictures

Is there a reason we stopped having snowcat gatherings in Leavenworth? I know there is some absolutely amazing terrain just north of there, up the Entiat River. If I can help organize something, it would be awesome for those of us with a more costal proclivity.

lack of snow for a few years in a row. We always need people willing to organize outings.

Yeah, up the Entiat River and into the surrounding mountains is pristine. Been up there only a few times but never in the winter. A stepping off point at somewhere like Ardenvoir or beyond to one of the forest service campgrounds would be perfect. Seems you can drive on maintained asphalt for close to 40 miles before roads end.

While reading the attachment for a long past event Leavenworth, the instructions mentioned something about registering with the DMV to get tags. News to me so did a little research. Snowcats are too large and too heavy to fit the RCW description requiring registration. Most Washingtonians probably know this.
Here's the RCW: https://app.leg.wa.gov/rcw/default.aspx?cite=46.09.310
I did talk to a sheriff who patrols the Yakima snowparks, and he said that registration is not necessary, and that anything with tracks is allowed on the snowpark roads. He said that finding a snowmobile club and getting a club registration might be helpful though, because while it is not illegal, it might piss off a few sled guys.

Good to know. My cat use is solely on an unimproved/unmaintained County dirt road that bisects my and other private properties, so no issues with pissing off anyone. In fact I hope to help others...one person in particular...who lives full time up on my mountain and most often is stranded for a few months when the snow is too deep for 4x4's. Gotta have big balls to live isolated and alone like that at 81 years old. I would rather help him survive vs hauling his body out if it ever came to that.
