Off to pick up my stretched 1202 Thiokol!

Sweet Jesus! Found a big bag of tie down chain! The good stuff too!!! The damn fire extinguisher is fully charged too!

The chains will be great as far as the fire extinguisher dump it. It is probably rock hard inside and when you pull the pin you will get nothing coming out. Recharge it or buy a new one. This is one tool you really need to work when you use it.

With all of the rat crap and extras, you got more than expected for your money. :yum: As with many ebay listings, the sellers post only what looks good and you have to guess on the rest. Which rear end does this cat have? I see you also sit on the fuel tank. I would assume you plan on new side fuel tanks? Are the tracks in good shape? Give us some more mechanical system details and less ratty pics on this cat. What are your future plans on usage of the wide track Thiokol or are you going to resell it?

The fire extinguisher I plan on tossing. Its just to old. But I was surprised to see it fully charged. I have several around the shop area and in the house anyway. The cat has the oc-12. The transmission is the optional one from Thiokol with only 4 forward gears. There is a second trans that when engaged all gears are reverse. The belting is in pretty good shape with the grousers all looking in great shape. The tank under the drivers seat is actually the hydraulic tank for the blade that use to be on the cat. All that will go. Anything not being used will be removed. The frame is in excellent shape. No cracks or any visable damage. There was a 50 cal ammo can full of replaced bearings and some extra ones. I dont plan on reselling it but have already been offered $14,000 for it as it was. I almost took it but need it for my Remote Lodge runs. The motor is in excellent shape! She pures like a kitten and the gears are not nearly as low as my other 1202. She is cleaning up really nice. I am still amazed why people just dont invest a little more effort into cleaning something up then try to sell it????? Oh well. I still paid top dollar so he made out like a bandit. BUT one thing I have learned is to BUY a FORD 1 ton dually diesel! I averaged 6.2 MPG on my way home for 600 miles going 55 MPH. Just to much cat for my Dodge. I am going down today to see what they will do for me on the one I am ordering. They say they will give me a great deal. HAH. Ive heard that everytime Ive gone to a dealership. We will see.

On the width I can most likely get away with the 10'. The Lodge is up on top of a mountain with a really wide road except the last 1/4 mile. I am going up there today to talk with a friend of mine to see if I can keep it there at his place. He has told me many times I could but want to check again. IF for some reason I cant I will buy an acre and build a small garage for it.

It was kinda like an Archelogical dig! You never know what your gonna find. I will be back later today with more pics of the finished cat "for now".

No pics today folks. Its been thunder and lightning. The back yard is a mud pit. Its stopped for now so I hope Sunday I can get out there and finish up.

UGLY RAT? I am no Ugly RAT!

Must go with driving the Dodgem....:yum:

I went back to the ebay listing and see that the fuel tank is at the back of the cab blocking the rear door. I wonder why the cab builder did not mount a tank under the rear seats or outside the cab. You said it was higher geared than your narrower track Spryte. How do you think the 200 Ford 6cyl will handle the wide tracks and deep snow? With those 4 foot wide tracks and enough power, it should climb like a mountain goat on a mission.....:thumb:

The extended cab was built by Thiokol. The original gas tank was under the passenger seat up front. I guess the Forest service needed a bigger tank and purchased a tank from Thiokol. WHY it was mounted at the rear is beyond me. Most likely it was a two man crew that used the cat most of the time. This is kinda confirmed by the two sleeping bags, two wool blankets that were stowed under one of the rear seats as a survival kit in my opinion. Anyway it will be moved over the tracks on a reinforced deck. As far as being not as low geared as my other 1202 it is still VERY LOW GEARED! Just not as insanely! 1st gear on the streched Thiokol is like second gear on my EXtremely low geared orange 1202. That has a NP-435 with a Granny low first so it really really low! The power of the 6 is plenty and purs like a kitten. I will modify it to have more hp and be more efficient in the fuel mileage area! I will install a Pertronix Ignition, Clifford single header with a 2 1/4" pipe going to the muffler and a 2" going out. This combination actually helps pull the exhaust out of the motor. Kinda like a Venturi effect. Also International has really researched exhaust sytems and I am just stealing there research! Also if I can swing it I will install an Offenhauser manifold and use 3 single barell carbs. This will give me much more power and get me better fuel economy at the same time. On the current set up the two middle cylinders get the best fuel to air mixture while the outer 1,2,5,6 cylinders get starved. Thats why 6 cylinders are so easy to make much more efficient. Anything you do pretty much helps them out.

UGLY RAT? I am no Ugly RAT!

What a coincidence; from a German enthusiast talking about the Thiokol imports to Germany... :yum:

"Than the Thiokol Sprite came to us - under the name 'Ratrac S'."

Of course he may have been confusing it with the Snow-Trac!? :rolf2:

Hey watch it!

OK more booty found in the Stretched Thiokol. These were behind the gas tank. I opened up the back door and took a peak between the cab and tank. Found a nice newish never taken out of the bag set of Jumper cables. And not the cheapies either. And an old industrial style wooden mop pole across the back door opening. Must have been used for mopping out remote sites???

let me know if you want to get rid of any of those spare tire/wheels, as well as those track jacks. nice find. wiskeytown is a great place, nice lake. ive been there a dozen times fighting fires. good job on your find. as for your dodge,,,,go get yourself one made for towing,,,3500 with 6.7 diesel, or even the new monster 5500 4x4! 2 tons of fun.
