Few people lived in the south before fossil-fuel powered air conditioning became available. NBC News says unless we get rid of fossil fuels, the south will become uninhabitable.

I was in California 20 years ago. Not uncommon to get a string of 115 degree days.
Turn the misters on on the porch, or take a dip in the pool. And it was very comfortable outside.
