MY FIRST ELK BABIES!!!

BigAl

Gone But Not Forgotten
We have a herd of Elk cows in the front pasture eating the newly planted grass . Looking out the front window of the Ranch house ,there are about 20 there ,right now as I type this .
Last night on my way to close up the building in town I had two newly born Elk Babies right in front of me . The mother cow waited as the babies crossed the ranch road, wobblely legs going in every direction . The Cow showed no concern for me as I waited for them to cross the ranch road safely. Its the earliest I have seen babies here . Usually Mama will hide them for about 2 weeks before showing them to the rest of the mother cows . You seldom see a baby in the day hours , only in the evening .

I'll try to grab pictures . They look like small shaggly Deer with white poka-dots all over .

that's cool Allen we picked up an orphaned reindeer a few years back around break up and my wife saw one being born on the beach in front of town. instances like this and many others is why I have no use for living in the city.
