Well in reality, like most things, there’s only a couple hundred dollars in materials in that thing so could likely still make a small profit. Good way to break into the market by selling so cheap.

Elon could surprise us with some new manufacturing techniques. Maybe a giga casting of the main structure.
Who knows what he might have up his sleeve. I doubt it could cost $1L initially, but maybe once at scale it could be
profitable. The Cyber truck has already covered its cost of production and is now at scale production, and by most accounts is a runaway success. I learned not to bet against Elon but with him years ago.

I watched every video and some others I could find. I still don't see how this as a "break though" in daily intra community commuting. You are still open to the elements. So except for southern Ca and Florida, how does this help the average American, who drives 10 to 20 miles a day, guy get to work?

In my late 20's and early thirties, I rode a Suzuki to work year round. Snowmobile outfit in winter, rain gear in spring summer and fall. Few women will do it and I certainly, at 77 years old, not do it today.

A modern e-bike is pretty much equivalent to an entry level low cc motorcycle these days. The e-bike range is probably not as good but the performance is pretty close.
