The USS Wisconsin

I did not realize this thread existed, so please excuse the late post here…

Captain Richard “Dick” Marcinko passed away on Christmas Day, 2021. He was a true American warrior through and through. He re-defined the role of spec ops in Vietnam, and then went on to create Seal Team 6. He then went on to become an accomplished author.

RIP Captain…

Same here. I loved it! It was like a ride at an amusement park. About 50% of the Sailors wouldn't go to the chow hall when that halleped so there was little or no line. That's another thing I liked about it.
Yes and so many getting sea sick. I tried to avoid the head because of the smell of vomit. YUCK.

Well, at least you could pee over the side of the ship.
LOL Not in those kind of waters. You'd end up in the water. Had to hold my breath and go in ...then breath as little as possible. I survived.

Yeah, never on the bow but sometimes on the fantail in the shower.

Even in good weather never peed off the side. To high up and actually never thought of it. Never saw any shipmates do it either.
In the shower??? LOL That's the reason for shower shoes cause some did I'm sure.

Friday night, and it's Liberty Call aboard USS SOLAR (DE-221),1945. Remember the challenge of trying to get ready in cramped quarters? Somehow, it never seemed like a problem. Don't forget the smell of after shave.

Carl Vinson Strike Group Arrives in Hawaii

A nuclear submarine could also be lurking somewhere under those waters as part of security for that carrier.

The largest Aircraft Carriers ever built in the world.....truly the Sea Dragon.

USS Hornet CV-8 before her commissioning at Norfolk Navy Yard - 1941

USS Hornet CV-8 was sunk during the Battle of the Santa Cruz Islands on October 27, 1942.
Hornet was in commission for one year and six days, and was the last US fleet carrier ever sunk by enemy action

The EA-6B Prowler. I worked on the electronics for these.
It's been retired but while active, it was the longest lasting tactical jet in US military history.
It was an electronics warfare plane. It's rumored that if 6 of these spread equidistant along the east coast and turned on their jammers, it would black out the entire east coast.
The gold canopy is to protect those inside from their own jammers.
One was used in the operation to kill Osama Bin Laden. They jammed the radar to allow the helicopters to reach the compound.
