Military Patrolling the Mexican Border ........

bczoom said:
Grrrrr and a big ole WTF.

In this article several southern country leaders slam the US for our plans to build a wall.

A quote from Vicente Fox:

"Building walls, constructing barriers on the border does not offer an efficient solution in a relationship of friends, neighbors and partners," Fox said in the border city of Tijuana. "We will go on defending the rights of our countrymen without rest or respite. With passion we will demand the full respect of their human rights."

That quote irks me so much right now, I don't even want to comment as there's not enough time to type what's on my mind.

This story is interesting for the following reasons -

1) why would Vicente Fox be so concerned about his "countrymen" when they are leaving the country by the millions? If they leave Mexico and come to the US are they your "countrymen" any more? If Mexican immigrants come to the US and want to become citizens they are no longer your countrymen Vicente - they are ours.

2) If he was as concerned about them as he claimed to be then why doesn't he do more to get them to stay in Mexico?

The fact that Vicente Fox and and other South American leaders are against the fence is the very best reason to build it. The reason why these leaders do not want the fence is because the easy immigration allows these leaders to stay in power even though their countries are going down the shitter. By allowing people an easy exit the leaders get to stay in power because instead of asking for change the people just leave. The Mexicans in fact propagate the theory that by moving to the US these immigrants are taking back historical Mexican soil that was "taken" from them. The fact is that it was bought from Mexico the same as Alaska and the Louisiana Purchase. They no longer have any claim to the land. This is a cynical political ploy by the Mexicans to keep power by bleeding off the population pressure that would eventually revolt for change in Mexico while still keeping them loyal to Mexico.

The best thing we could do for the US AND for Mexico is to build the wall. By building the wall we can hopefully get control of the immigration problem and then come up with some sort of legal way for these people to come here if they still want to and we have a need for them. It will also put pressure on the Mexicans and the other South American countries to actually fix their problems so their citizens want to stay there instead of leave. I have to believe that the majority of the Mexican immigrants would much rather stay in their own country rather than come here if they were able to. It is the desperate circumstances that make it worth it for them to become illegal immigrants. After all we do not have a wall on the Canadian border do we - and we don't have a massive problem with illegal Canadian immigration even though Canadians would fit right into the culture down here - this is because Canadians like their country and can make a living and support their families and so forth. So they have no reason to come here en-masse.

If a wall goes up and the immigration is halted sooner or later something will pop in Mexico and maybe real change will happen. Maybe it will be revolution - whatever it might be it is not our issue to get involved in, Mexicans should be responsible for reforming their own country so they can also have a decent place to live. The politicians are playing games - don't listen to them unless they vote for the wall and for strict immigration enforcement. The US needs a breather to assimilate all the people that have come here before we get flooded with any more. This is not racism but common sense.

I am no economist, but took it as an elective one year. Doesn't free trade and globalization imply that wages will increase in the developing country that you open your trade to and will likewise decrease in your own country? I mean, trade sanctions and tax breaks aside. Won't the unskilled labour wages generally increase in Mexico and decrease in North America until there is no advantage either way and it will be wage equity?

It's an awful, double-edged sword where our manufacturing industry is moving to Mexico and the Mexicans are moving here (the U.S.) and taking advantage of the social infrastructure.

I read a reply to the editor in this morning's paper where the writer said that one of the reasons that there are so many immigrants coming to the US is because cheap US grain (subsidized in part by the US goverment funds that go to farmers) has been flooding Mexico. The cheap grain puts Mexican farmers out of business - I think the writer said something like 50 or 75%. Since they have no way to make a living they emigrate up here. The writer attributed this to NAFTA - so I guess people are getting screwed on both sides of the border by the NAFTA agreement.

Hey I didn't make any observations or value judgements, I just posted the link. And my best score is only 51.

Except I don't think anyone factored in the fact that the manufacturing industry would move to China. The mexicans are losing work because the Chinese are cheaper. They are moving to the US just to beat the construction of the wall. It's just a gold rush phenomenon.

I only got 27. Man you gotta lead them. I'm sure I could do much better with a 50 cal and some heat seeking laser guidance. You want to stop them from coming in? Mount a 50 at 300 yard intervals and let the body count multiple. Sooner or later they will get the message. It's time this country got its head out of its ass and did something to stop this problem. Sitting behind a desk in Washington telling the same old songs doesn't cure a friggin thing. Both parties ought to be ashamed of themselves. Cowards they are, no longer Americans in my book.

New weapon being issued to the National Guard and border patrol to help protect our border since firearms are not permitted. The cost is about $310,000.00 each.
