Yep. I was there for 3 weeks for a work related class in the 1990s. Yes, it is a shithole.
From Des Moines Iowa you can fly now directly to New York City for $44 one way.
Tempting in some ways, but I have the feeling there is much more to the story as to why that fare is so cheap.
