looking to get healthier and more fit?

My knee injury is healed up but I'm still wearing the brace when I work outside. Im healed up enough to start working out again and I'm going to give it a try next week
I rubbed Aspercreme on my arm this afternoon and then headed to the fencing club, gave a lesson to a beginner. Hurt like hell. The girl is going to the Summer Nationals in Phoenix, despite being a beginner, or maybe because she is a beginner, I really wanted her to get prepared for the event... at least as much as possible. So I know I shouldn't have, but I did. And it hurt.

But I think I'm good enough to start back on some light duty exercises. No lifting, or resistance bands, also no rowing, but I probably could have gotten onto a treadmill 15 days ago. And hovering in and about 180 and looking flabby so I need to get back into it.

I'm hovering about 183# for the past couple of weeks.

My arm and shoulder are still in pain, I'm not working out. But I'm really missing it and want to get back down into the mid-170's. I see a surgeon on Aug 2 to find out what I did and how bad I did it.

I need to increase my activities. While I'm in some pain, it is improving slowly. Less pain this week then and almost never taking any Tramidol for the pain, but I still take Advil daily. No chance I'll be on the rowing machine anytime soon. Not jogging on the treadmill either. But I can manage walking without shaking my arm/shoulder too much.

Thats one of the reasons for reworking out, when I don't everything starts hurting after a while.

Just completed my second workout, all with dumb bell free weights and a chair. Bicep, tricep, sitting military press and then standing added in 2 more shoulder exercises and did some no weight squats. I just did one set with the weights and 10 squats. Thats enough. I will keep adding reps and sets as I go. in a couple weeks I should be doing 3 sets to failure. Next go I will also do some sit ups.

Right there is where you lost me. I can now lift a coffee cup without pain. But I can't reach up to put a coffee cup into the microwave that is mounted just above my shoulder level. That said, I'm in a lot less pain than I was a couple weeks ago. I see the surgeon next week.

Conventional doctors and medicine are total shit these days. They will pump you full of crap big pharma drugs until you die.
Look outside the box. Stem cell therapies, peptide hormones (TB-500, BPC-157), and even supplemental HGH and Testosterone (at the right levels - not bodybuilder levels) combined with routine blood testing. These are all game changers for us older people. It´s just hard to find a doctor that is willing to work with you on how to properly use these new tools.
Combine the above with a balanced diet that is free from processed foods and high in natural sourced protein and a decent amount of exercise and you will feel better in a few months .... you should feel a lot better ... or you´re doing something wrong.
Your diabetes, arthritis, .... whatever .... are just excuses for the pain. A better healthier life takes time, commitment (and money) as you get older. I´m in my mid-fifties an while I´m not as strong as I was when I was younger I actually can see my abs and am way leaner than I ever thought I could be.

Also, be careful of things that can boost your estrogen levels (see blood tests above). The forever chemical hype, pain killers like ibuprofen, so many things in our modern society are screwing with our endocrine system that we often don´t realize just how screwed up it can be.

I´m done with my rant. Off to do my morning 10 minute ice plunge, 30 minutes intense rowing, 30 minutes yoga/barre, 30 minutes calisthenics, and a final 30 minute low intensity bike ride. I do this 4-6 times a week depending on how I feel. Did I mention the time and commitment part?

My shoulder was hurting like that for a year. I had a Memorial Day party and set up horse shoes with knife and ax throwing for entertainment. It went over better than expected and played quite a few games of both with guests. The next morning my shoulder hurt 1/2 as much, so I continued. it has helped a lot. Im in two workouts with weights and now its even better, but the first session hurt like hell in my right shoulder and my left forearm near my elbow. I think what it is, Is I am very active lifting and doing things I'm not in shape to do and that why the muscles get pulled and hurt. When i'm exercising all the time I don't hurt even with the heavy work. I think that may be your issue as well.

I've got an appointment with an orthopedic specialist next week. I've weaned myself off the opioids, down from 3 a day to 1 to 3 per week. I'm trying to heal, wearing a brace, want to know how much damage I did and how long the recovery will be, if there is anything I can do to speed the healing, see if I can continue to avoid surgery, etc. I have multiple points of pain, multiple past injuries to my shoulder, arm and elbow. But I'm getting to be an old dude now and healing is taking much longer, pain is much greater than any prior injury.

Nothing like a good guilt trip on someone over the internet, eh? ;)

It's crazy how someone who is healthy can tell someone who has issues that it's all in their head and you can just change everything if they follow your method. Be very thankful you aren't truly walking in the other person's shoes.

Returned to workouts, thanks to rest, meds and physical therapy. Not as long or intense as I was doing, I'm still sore, but making progress again.

What causes your knee injury? That must been so bad. I hope for your fast recovery.
Knee injury was caused by a horse, horse trailer and some stupid. Horse has trailer anxiety, while trying to train him through it, he bolted backwards out of the trailer while I was holding on to him and didn't let go fast enough. The trailer is elevated about a foot and when I landed it twisted my knee feeling it pop. It would not support me without buckling sideways when it first happened. The pain was dull but made me nauseated. Wore the brace everyday for 6 months. fine now, but still wear the brace while doing heavy work as an insurance policy. I will continue to do that until the first of next year. I avoided an operation.

Well my September return to workouts was short lived. Foot pain stopped much of it. Re-injured my right shoulder stopped the rest of it. Surgery in December has me delayed even longer, but last week I got back on the treadmill.

So 3 20-30 minutes walks on the treadmill last week. Another treadmill walk today. Over the past 6 months of being pretty much inactive my weight crept back up to 189-ish, give or take a pound.

Trying to get back into it. I felt much healthier below 180 pounds so I'd like to lose about a dozen pounds that I picked up. Anything in the mid-170's would make me happy. I never totally went back to 'eat anything & everything' but I clearly slacked off a healthy diet. So I'm back on the healthier foods too. Taking carrots, cucumbers and cherry tomatoes as 'road snacks' with me in the car so that I resist the urge to stop at a fast food window.

My foot still hurts and I've not gotten a 'full release' from the surgeon, but walking is acceptable and even encouraged. My shoulder still hurts, but it's recovering so I'm using light dumbbells and light resistance bands, but also not pushing too hard and not doing it every day.

Probably take me as long to lose the 12# I want to lose as it took me the first time to drop 30# but it makes sense to do it. Besides, I bought all new pants late last year and donated my size 36" waist jeans and pants to charity. My closet is full of mostly size 34" but some size 32" pants. Just from the budgetary standpoint of not having to buy new clothes I'm now committed to dropping the weight.

Im so busy with work I'm only working out one day a week or so, just enough to keep it going right now. I will get more serious around summer time when the work lets up.

Sounds like you're pushing through, but man, pain is no joke. Probably a good idea to ease back in with some light movement treadmill work should help without adding extra strain.

If recovery is taking longer than expected, you might want to look into peptides like BPC-157 or TB-500. A lot of people use them for tendon and ligament healing. Bc9.Co has a solid reputation for that kind of stuff if you're considering it.

Hope your student does well at Nationals getting that kind of experience early on is huge!
