Leak detection: Whole home based automatic water shutoff

My homeowners insurance went up a good bit so I'm shopping around. One company I'm considering, that could save me a few hundred dollars is asking after our 2022 claim due to a water heater leak if we installed a whole home based automatic shutoff leak detection system.
The answer is no, I never knew such systems existed.

So now I'm looking around and found a Moen system that appears to fit the bill.

Flo Smart Water Monitor & Shutoff - .75"

$499.99

This system monitors water pressure and if it changes for a long period that indicates a leak so it shuts off the water and notifies you via an app on your phone. It also monitors your water usage and will send weekly reports of usage and pressure.
Plus I read that you can add leak monitors for spaces in your home and if they get wet it will notify you via the app. Each pod has to be connected to your WIFI individually, but sure would be handy for me in a couple places in our home.

Do any of you have this or a comparable system?

Their website doesn't really speak to details. They say it is a 3/4 connection, but do not say anywhere that it is a full port valve.
Before you buy, you should discuss with somebody or see one in person. If you buy a 3/4" valve, the ball opening is usually more like a 1/2" hole, unless you specify full port. If that is true for this valve, I'd suggest you get a 1" valve so you do not lose any flow through it.

Good thought Fred. :tiphat:
I have a plumber familiar with these systems coming Monday for an estimate to install.
I 'thought' since I have 3/4" copper I'd go with the 3/4" one. I'll find out more Monday.

Call me cheap but I just get the little ones.
I don't have this particular one but it's in line with what I do have. Mine don't have notifications but our house is rarely vacant, the audible alarms are enough for us.

Very interesting Brian. And it does have WiFi so it would notify you if you are vacationing in FL or SD. I like cheap. :thumb:

Well, the new insurance's underwriter came back and raised the premium from 2500 to 3845 per year. And they had not even added the boat rider in yet. No Thanks. They had the value of our house at well over a million dollars. Just a few hundred thousand higher than anyone else values it. :bonk:
So no need for a whole house leak detector.
I did order the WiFi one that bczoom posted the link to. That will serve our need perfectly. Thanks BC. :tiphat:

Dang, that's a big rate increase. I spoke with my ins agent this week about rate increase from my tree incident. My rate might go up $42/year for 7 years.

Since I am not insured by them now it's not a rate increase but it is a whole lot more than my agent was firsts told when checking with these people. So ...I'll stay with what I got.
