Kristi KT-3 SN 00145

I would first start off with some serious batteries in the 1000 cca range. The ones I have posted above weigh in at 38 lbs. each but have 1200 cca. For your battery cables some 4/0 should really help things along. Look into Marine grade battery cable for this application. Combine the cables with soldered slugs (no crimps) and some tripple wall with heat activated adhesive shrink tubing will give you a water proof seal between the cable and ends. (Sorry I cant think what they are called. Havent had my first hot cup of joe yet) OK anyway I think you get the point. I can research for the cable stuff here in a minute. I see you are adding a winch. What winch are you going with?

I do a lot of work with solar power systems, so I have some big cable available to me.

The batteries in the KT-3 right now are 460CCA hardwired in parallel for a total of 920CCA. The EnerSys/Odyssey batteries above are rated at 550CCA (1200 5secHCA, 825HCA, 725CA). See the specs here...

http://www.enersysreservepower.com/ody_b.asp?routine=ody_spec&brandID=0

When the switch is thrown in the ON position, that puts them in parrallel for a total of 1100CCA. I'm not sure if there would be room for significantly larger batteries (the electric pump blocks one choice spot).

Mr. Snowcat Operations,

No, I am sorry. I will not trade you 3 Snow-Tracs for my Kristi.

The picture above is Bob Pierce. Shouldnt he get some type of points for having his mug put on forums forums?

NOW since we all know you cant trust a KKK member or Kristi cat owner to tell the truth especially about pictures, I had Bob take my picture with "MY" camera so I could have the truth recorded for all to see how I trully feel about Kristi snowcraps. This last picture of ME shows how I trully feel. Look closley at my hands! Bob I am so disapointed! OK I'm over it. Great time visiting with you. :tiphat:

Oh, that's just not right. Who can't be trusted?

Somehow I think that NEITHER of you would qualify for that, at least not based on these comments :moon: Then again, there is that old saying . . . it takes one to know one . . . so maybe I can't be trusted either! :smileywac

Well, I thought SnoOp would be able to show me the trick to changing the oil in my KT-3 today. He couldn't figure out how to get at the drain either. So, looking at my pictures tonight, I noticed the gap at the bottom of the firewall. There is a piece of metal wedged in there and what looks like a rectangle of cardboard. If I remove them I should have access to the engine compartment and maybe the bottom of the engine. Will try it tomorrow.

Good luck. I think you will find that almost impossible to reach as well. Your transaxle is real close if not directly if front of that. Plus you would need to reach up. Best bet would be to cut an access panel out front on the side. Yup them dual batteryies and such are right in the way. Even the brackets are in the way.

Sounds like the same one...in Globe, AZ. I originally pulled in to look at the Jeep Renegade with the Mattracks and then noticed the Kristi partially hidden behind a Cherokee Sport. Will be picking it up from there in a few days.
I'm late responding to this; I kept forgetting to check the board! That's the one, all right. We're glad it went to a good home. Now, if I can just keep my husband from giving in to the lure of that Jeep.... I do think we'd use it a wee bit more than we'd have used the Kristi, at least. Shoot! We coulda stood you to a beer or something while you were in our little burg.

Shoot! We coulda stood you to a beer or something while you were in our little burg.

That's ok, I'll be back down there in a week or so. But I'll have to settle for a Pepsi or an ice tea.

And those Mattracks are WAY too expensive...pass them up.

As we discussed earlier I still think the engine compartment removal mod like the one in Oregon is the best way.

Something like that, if not exactly that, will be on the to-do list. But for now I just want to change the &%$% oil without having to remove the &%$% engine!

Bob, there is a unit that we use that you use to remove the oil thru the dipstick tube a very effective way to change oil it is a vaccum unit. we use it quite a bit. we bought ours from northern tool we will try to get a picture and post it for you.

Sonw Tracs rule!BOB,
Ok while going through my Snow Master parts book I found a hydraulic pump used to operate the grooming gear. It connects to the pulley and is a small unit. The Part number is:

Cessna type G20258

I have sent out several requests for quotes for a new or rebuilt unit. Will let you know what I find out. The best this is it is a Snow Trac part and being such will be the absolute most reliable part on your Kristi!

Below is another low cost method to drain the engine oil via the dip stick tube. I have used this for engine oil after warming up the engine slightly. It does work, but it is not real user friendly as it almost requires 3 hands to operate and hold it together when running. Your local NAPA store can supply the pump and hose kit for about $15.00 for both. Boggie's is much better but does cost considerably more. The one below is great as a tool box item for all kinds of uses. I have even drained a small diesel fuel tank although it is not recommended for that use.

Easy now. You know I'm on the road. And you should be glad of it. If I weren't, I'd be spinning doughnuts in your front yard with my Kristi! Then your wife would be looking out the window and asking "Gee, honey, why don't we have one like that?"
