My knees are shot. Getting the 1st one done tomorrow. Not looking forward to it but it is necessary. The pain I have with it now can't be much worse than the pain from the surgery I hope.

I've only had a hip replacement but know many that have had their knee done. Piece of cake. :) It'll be a little sore for a few weeks but you should be walking on it the same or next day as the surgery.
When I had my hip replaced, I actually walked 1/4 mile the same day as the surgery.

Good luck!

I had both mine done at the same time around 5 years ago. If everything goes well then you should feel a lot better. I was out the next day and probably walking with out support in a week. But I was also only 49 so that is pretty young.

The only advice I have is be very adamant that they don't change your leg lengths. They made both my legs the same length and nice and straight (one of them was angled from the degeneration). Since then I have been battling back pain issues because I have to undo 30 years of my back muscles being formed to support the left leg being about a half inch shorter than the right leg. So my knees feel great but my back pain has been a long journey of rehab and very specific exercises. More than most people would not be willing to put up with.

I am not the only person that has run into this issue.

Thanks guys.
My right knee, the one they are doing has been bad for years. As has my back. I'm hoping part of my back issue is the knee, and once fixed my back won't be as bad. Right now I cannot walk 1/8th of a mile without major back pain. I sit for 3 minutes then I can walk again. I've dealt with this for 5+ years now.

good luck Doc
I had right one done 15 years ago
left one done 7 years ago
back to work after 8 hard weeks of PT both times
the DR didn't want to do my last one because of my weight but i convinced him that i needed it and would put the work in to get back on my feet (pun intended). He was amazed that at 8 weeks I was ready to to go back to work he said most people took 16-18 weeks

your mileage might vary ;)

I've been dealing with the backpain issues since my knee replacement. The only thing that has helped has been targeted exercises to address the imbalances and strengthen my core. I do a lot of yoga, pilates, barre, and functional type exercises. It took me about three years to figure it out on my own. The orthopedic doctors just wanted to put me on pain management. I am walking farther and farther every month. Up hill still kind of sucks but on flat terrain I can walk pretty far. I've actually corrected my scoliosis (from the old bad knee) quite a bit and improved my posture. After my surgery I was walking all hunched over and literally tilted to one side .... but my knees didn't hurt. Life is never fair.

Once your surgery is done if you are still having back issues then let me know and we can talk offline.

A couple of months of pain from the surgery are probably better than years of suffering.
I hope all goes well.

I hear you. I've been dealing with back pain for 9 years since my accident. I broke 3 vertebrae in my lower back and 3 between the shoulder blades. All the muscle and nerves in my back were damaged when I was run over. Had tire marks on my back for 8 months. So I totally understand. Pain sucks. And there's absolutely nothing they can do for it for me so I keep going to physio every 3 weeks for a tune up.

Good luck. From personal experience, you will feel great for two days while the drugs in your system are working. On the third day you will have an awaking to pain. Take your opioids as directed and eventually you will feel better. Do all your allowed physical therapy with joy 😬.

Feeling surprisingly good. Been snoozing. Ate a bit of lunch then worked with occupational therapy. Walked the length of the hall. No major pain. Pain blocker still working i guess.
So far so good. Be here overnight. Meet with PT tomorrow then should he released.

So far so good Doc.

They have come along way with this therapy. My best friend /neighbor had this done 20 some years ago. Turned out bad. Never was the same. Good to hear yours is a success.

Finally home. Passed the PT requriments at 9:30 this morning. Took another 6 hours to get out the door. Pain is intense today. Pain blocker and morphine wore off. I'm on some other pain pill but it leaves a lot to be desired.
Start physical therapy tomorrow morning.
Nice to be home!!!
