Who else has heard of these things.

I had to go to a work related outing with the wife last Friday and there was a guy talking real loud about how he put together one of these things for $100 and was going to get much better fuel economy from his Excursion V-10.

I tried to find out from him how this works. He said that you run a current through a wire in a water container (with salt/soda in it) and this bubbles hydrogen, which you then plumb into the intake of the motor. Instant fuel saving power source.

I asked him where the power came from. He said the battery.

I asked him where the battery got it's power from. He said the alternator.

I asked him if he knew what a perpetual motion machine was. He said he did, but this was different, but couldn't explain how.

My God! Are people this stupid, really, to believe this? We're talking about a perpetual motion machine, here. An impossibility! :doh:




I walked away and got another beer. :punk:

It's not perpetual motion, since there is still energy being input into the system (the gas tank), but is still pure......

That would simply make it more efficient, not perpetual motion. By definition, perpetual motion is a closed system that produces more than or equal to the energy it consumes. Since a vehicle is not a closed system (fuel is constantly added), it cannot be a perpetual motion machine.
 
They claim electricity produces more energy than it expends. that must be the bases of a formula for perpetuals motion.

BTW I DO AGREE IT SNAKE OIL STUFF.
 
actually there is a guy at work that claims he has made and installed some of these..................ford v8 truck getting 27 mpg. Wanted me to do this on my Optima, not really at least while I have a warranty on it.
 
In the case of engines and automotive electrical systems, it takes horsepower to convert heat to electricity. It takes electricity to separate H from O2. The energy H produces does not offset the fuel needed to make the horsepower to rotate the alternator to make up the used electricity. It is that simple.

How much water does the system hold? How much energy is used hauling it around?

And what does the system weigh? That also takes energy to haul around.

How much H can be separated from H20, and how many BTU in that volume of H? And how much energy in BTU was spent to make the H and haul the water and equipment around?

That is what I was trying to say. We all know that hydrogen generation is a net energy loss. Expecting to improve your MPG with this type of setup is akin to perpetual motion.

IE: If you simplify down far enough you would have a self sustaining engine. Impossible.
 
True at our current level of technology. Now if we could simplify the breakdown process so that it takes less energy input (or uses more free energy) then it may be econimical. Not perpetual motion, but a great improvement. (think turbo charger theory)
