How do I ask my crush out after talking or seeing her for for a long time ?

To give some context, we were both in the same school since the 8th grade (till high school), and we spoke fairly often, not too frequently however. And I kind of had a crush from this period onwards. I thought it would eventually pass, and I left the school after 3 years just before high school (2015). She finished high school there before entering college

After high school, my college started in 2017 and I didn't think about her much, was busy with college work/life.

I recently graduated college 3 months back (August 2021) majoring in CS, got a job soon after. Another thing to mention, is that the last year and a half of my college was online (I came back home) because Covid hit. So I have been at home ever since with my parents, don't go out much

However, I noticed that in the last 3 months or so, for whatever reason, I couldn't stop thinking about her. I thought it'll eventually pass, but that hasn't happened. So I finally got her number from one of my friends, and texted her. Turns out she's in the same city as me, she recently graduated too in Hotel Management and she was busy preparing for her defense exam to get enrolled into military school
I didn't wanna bother her too much as she would mostly be busy with prep, so we didn't really chat for longer than a couple of days (29th, 30th Sept)

I'm pretty sure she had no idea that I had a crush on her in school, not sure what she thought when I messaged her. The exam was on 18th Nov, I wished her good luck on the day before, she responded saying that was very sweet of me :)

I haven't texted her ever since, the reason being that here in my country, once you clear the defense exam, the training is in another city, so I thought maybe I should just give up since I may never be able to see her again, and I hoped that this would make the way I felt about her pass, but it clearly hasn't.

I guess, I would like to talk to her or even meet her if possible before she finally leaves for training (assuming she cleared that exam, which I don't know about), But again I don't know how to take that forward or if meeting would be a good idea considering Covid-19

IIRC, the training shouldn't start until 2nd Jul, but it might start on Jan as well, I'm not exactly sure about that

I really don't know what to do here, I understand that there might have been long communication gaps (sometimes too long) between.

I would really love some advice. Should I try to reach out to her, or try and forget about her?

You are setting yourself up for regret if you do not follow up on your feelings. You'll always wonder what if?
Contact her and see if she will meet with you this month. If she says she is to busy and cannot squeeze you in take that as a not interested. If she is interested at all she'll make time. Just do it. Call her.

When I was at school I was close to a girl and I suppose you could say we were going out and after we left school I joined the army and never saw her again but I found myself thinking about her all of the time, I was in the army for 10 years and toured Iraq and Afghanistan before leaving and after I left the army, I met a girl and was in a relationship for 2 and a half years but I always knew I wanted Lauren ( the girl from school) who I hadn’t seen for 14 years now until one night I was in a club and for some reason I couldn’t stop looking over at a girl at the bar even though she had her back to me and couldn’t see her face something was drawing me to her so I had to go over I stood next to her and said hi how are you, she turned towards me and I couldn’t believe my eyes it was Lauren, she jumped up and wrapped her arms around me and started crying and kissing me and all of my feelings came rushing back and it felt like we had never been apart, we kept in touch and after a couple of months I couldn’t hide how we felt any longer I ended my relationship with my partner and met up with Lauren and told her everything, and to my delight she told me that she felt the same and always had, we are now living together and I am the happiest I have ever been and we are expecting our first baby together in February, I had read about childhood sweethearts and didn’t really think it could ever work and still don’t but the time we spent not seeing each other although she is all I thought about has made this work, we have both said that we had thought about each other almost every day but didn’t realise just how much we obviously loved each other
