How can I help in Haiti !! Urgent !!I'm ready to go now !

Good luck to you both Al. Have you been to / worked in this type of devastated environment before?

It is too bad they can not get that carrier in to port. I do not know about carriers from other nations, but a US Navy carrier can supply huge amounts of fresh water and power, especially the nuclear carriers. And they have excellent hospital facilities on board.

Water treatment will be another major priority and will require entire systems built from scratch. The carrier on station has a lot of these capabilities but cant enter the port so everything will be ferried by chopper. It is a race against the clock for a lot of things all at once.

Greg ,
Not to this point , but I have stayed and lived in the jungle for 3 months while training and constructing homes in Panama .It was about as rough as I have ever experienced . A blue tarp for shelter and all cold caned food . I lost 87 pounds in 3 months on that trip .

I know how to get supplies moved using just simple manpower . I know how to get things done . I know how to help them to help themselves .

Everything I did in Panama was without equipment . I have trained many Indian and Black construction laborers and turned them into skilled workers over the last 10 years .

Theres not to much in Construction I have not learned to do over my life.Thank God my father made me learn "Hands On" experience in all phases of Construction . Housing construction in the tropics is completely different than the way we build in the US . You must learn to improvise .

Harsh living conditions is not a problem for me . I have already done this before and know what to expect .Unfortunately I am also very accustomed to being around the deceased and doing what is necessary to get the job done . That part will be the worst but it needs to be done to help insure the health and safety of survivors .

I need to get in to the doc and get current on all my shots that will be needed

Al at this point with the airport shut to commercial flights and 10,000 troops alone arriving from the USA (and i salute the assistance being deployed)maybe you could do more with a long term plan....

You know how the short term help floods in but the long term is in many cases neglected, while you await your offers to be accepted maybe try and focus on a plan that could assist the future of the victims, you have great first hand experience on educating people on building and education that will help benefit people that no amount of money can buy, this could be your calling when the dust starts to settle.

Maybe everyone could help chip in with ideas and help you put together a package that we all at FF would feel proud to see completed, yes money talks but so do great ideas with good planning.

Have you any ideas on where we could start Al,i for one is more than happy to sling around a few ideas and do some research.

Al you and your wife are of a special kind....i thank you.

I realize that the goverment is in charge and will get temp housing in order ASAP . It is the long term I am looking at . Fixing water mains , bringing sewer back online will take time . The hurricane season is 4 months away and these people will need more than tents to keep them safe . Better secure housing will need to follow asap . I will be going in with a group who already has a clear focus of the job they are assigned to do . I will not be going in by myself without a plan . That would be a waste of time .
I honestly believe with a 4-5 man crew , that I am allowed to train , I can erect a simple habital 800-1000 sq ft house every 5 days if they can supply me with the needed materials to do the job .I "turned keyed" many 1500 sq.ft homes in 20 days with a 3 man crew . Most of it will become automatic to the men after the first couple homes .Its the logistics that will be the problem .If they will allow me to pre fab the homes off site I can move even faster .One crew to cut and assembly/prepackage each dwelling , one dedicated crew to pre fab the wall/roof trusses and 2 or 3 crews to move and erect on site as slabs are poured .
I beleive this will be a 1 -2 year assignment for me . My mind has not stopped since I decided to do this .

Good stuff Al. if they are smart they'll get you there ASAP. They need guys like you, and I do know you well enough to know you are a guy who can get things done.
Gods speed Al. Good luck. :thumb: :tiphat:
