Help! Bombardier J5 motor makes pisscht pisscht sound

Hi everybody,
Just to close the here is the (hopefully) final update with things I wished I'd new before I started the job. Maybe it will help somebody later.

I got the right bolt suggestion from arp-bolts.com, but it would have taken many weeks to get the special order to Canada. The shortcut suggested was to get kit # 132-5401 which contains 14 stud/nut/washer. So you need 2 kits for a flathead-6. I could get those from performance shops in Canada pretty fast.

Since there is engine coolant under the studs, you have to use thread sealant when threading the studs in the engine. I used Permatex #2 non-hardening sealant. Anti-seize grease should not be used on that thread going in the engine block.

I used ARP thread lubricant on the top of the stud for proper torquing. The stud/nuts can go up to 80 lb-ft, but I stopped at 57 lb-ft because I don't want to go over what the old engine block can support.

Engine head gasket is 7256c from FelPro, available at local Carquest store. The other head gasket (for the thermostat, shown as a hole below) is number 35063 also from FelPro. Here is the result:

After reinstallation, it smoked a lot and I wondered if I did undertorque the head and if coolant was leaking. But there has been a lot of coolant going on the manifold and inside the engine, so I did a 4 minute trip (outside the garage) to dry it up. It made a lot of smoke but after 4 minutes it stopped and was back to normal.

Thank you for your help and support,
jf

Thank you for your help and support, Everything looks good, but I would go back and re torque the studs to what the manufacturer suggested. Bolts need to stretch to achieve the proper clamping force and not loosen. My .02
