Hand operated Chicken plucker ???

BigAl

Gone But Not Forgotten
Anybody ever heard of one ? I need to come up with one for the chicken ranch we started in Panama on the island . It needs to be hand operated and not electric .
I been studying designs and I think I can design and build what I need if a hand operated model is not avalible ?

There must be something out there that was used befor they started using electric models ????
No smart ass comments !!!! Thats my job :w00t2:

Ok .... I am collecting my ideas and I think I have come up with a plan . We do not have Electric where the chicken coops are located and I need to figure out a power system to drive the rubber fingered drum in the tub . What I came up with is a little wash machine and a old bicycle that I have stored away at the Panama house .
If I pull the electric motor off the little wash machine and rig a bicycle spocket in place of it and hook it to a old bike I believe Genaro could drop the chicken in the tub and just start peddling . :w00t2:I can also rig up a small "drill attachment type water pump" to shoot fresh water into the drum as the center turns .

All I need to do is drill some holes in the center agitator to insert the rubber fingers .
Do you see any reason why it would not work????

Al,
I don't know if this is driven by a bicycle.. but it looks like it could work.

Sounds like it is driven by a electric motor But that would work !!! That is a wash machine drum . A little more messy but still better than hand plucking . I like it ! Thank !!!

There is something similar to what you want to do at this site. This one is electric, but I would guess that something like a blacksmith blower should do the the trick

Thanks ! AndyM also sent me the same article !

This looks like a fun project to me ! I may even well become the worlds greastest Chicken Plucker as time marches on . It's a title that would look good under my name . Current record is 4.4 seconds to pluck a chicken ! That may be a little hard to beat

This looks like the best idea. :yum:

Al, The Whizbang plucker looks impressive but you're going to have to do some serious regearing. I don't think Genaro can peddle that fast all day long. :yum::yum::yum::yum:
