in college, doing a regular NROTC spiel, we had a rifle team.
I got interested, then on checking, it turned out one needed a 'uber' rifle, all kinds of gear, match grade ammunition . . . like $3 grand in 1960's dollars . . .

I stuck to my Savage .22 bolt action . . . . and a part time job.
when I graduated and married (time related events....) DW wanted to know why I super-guarded the savings account - why would we need $10k for 'cup hooks and curtains'
she found out . . .
